Feels Like the First Time...Taking my BFF to Disney!

Hi. I have another pre-trip report that I've been neglecting a bit, due to some family concerns that's making the trip itself all up in the air...But this trip is 100% on, and coming up very soon! Thus, this pre-trippie.

The cast of characters:

Me, 33, Disney pro, mom, wife, and best friend to Lilo

Lilo, 36, married, no kids, a Disney virgin going on her very first trip to the World.

Dates: Jan 4th-8th. staying at the Poly.

I'm not suggesting you go and read them, just saying if you're really bored and you want to read me debating resorts, I'd hate to deny you.

Today I sat down at lunch with Lilo and realized that we have two weeks and two days until our trip! That's it! I really want to remember this trip, and I thought writing about it was a good way to do it. So here we are. More to come!

Lilo and I have been friends since 1998, when we both walked into work one Monday engaged. At the time, we weren't friends but knew each other. Somehow, for some reason, Lilo started asking me to lunch. So we became friends and started eating lunch together all the time, planning our weddings, and eventually living only ten minutes from each other and taking the train to and from work together.

If not for her I'd probably still be sitting at my desk!

Of course, our husbands are pretty similar, too, and became friends and now we spend a lot of time together as couples. We even have the same model house (1950's split level - not that exciting) so we commiserate over the massive home repairs we have to do, and our husbands plot and plan their projects together, the ones that make us tear our hair out.

We, have had, at various times, matching purses, sweaters, coats, shoes and of course the matching houses and husbands. We can't help it. We end up buying the same things even if we're not together. This year, we have the same favorite winter shoes and jackets, different colors, which we plan to wear to Disney, because where else will it look normal?

The only thing we don't have matching is kids; mine is 3 and human, hers is 5 and canine. Our lives have changed a lot in the almost 10 years we've been friends, but our constant is each other. At this point, I think we value our friendship more than ever.

Our trip was sort of spur of the moment. Originally Lilo was going to tag along on a family trip, with my DD, DH, DM and DF. Then after my trip in September, I told her that I thought just the two of us should go. Who wants to be on a trip with someone else's family, no matter how well you know and love them? So in two weeks and two days, we are on a plane to Disney for four days of doing whatever we want. I can't wait.

I've been a DISer since this summer, when I was getting ready for a September trip with my DH and DD. I briefly considered matching shirts for us on that trip, but my DH wasn't into it. So it was months before I saw the design work going on at the DDA thread.

I decided I would not only make shirts for our family trip in March 2008, but also for this one in January. And for the last few days, that's what I've been doing. Nearly non-stop.

Lilo did think I was nuts. Then she saw the designs.

I think she might even be getting a little excited about it, too!

Christmas is here, so it will be a few days before I post pictures of the designs, but I will do it! (Just in case there is a reader out there.)

Yeah for my lone reader!

Here are my first two t shirts - for this trip and the first two I have ever made! I got the fireworks design from the board and my DH altered it for me. The second one I designed and he did all the heavy lifting - making the border look like a film reel.

That is a picture of us on the second shirt! It looks much nicer and clearer in person.

Thank you! Lilo's husband is making fun of us, but I keep telling him they're cool. Well, if you're a DISer, nothing is cooler than making t shirts, right?

The next two didn't turn out as we hoped...more on that later tonight! Oh, and I guess since it's two days I should get our schedule up, huh?

Okay, so one of the super cool or super dorky (depending on how you see it) things I do for nearly all occasions is making a mix. Remember mix tapes? Well, I was the Queen of the Mix Tape from 1987 to about 1996 or whenever we all figured out you could make mix CDs. Then I became simply Queen of the Mix. I make mixes for special weekends, holidays, parties, general summer, fall, winter, and spring mixes, and of course for trips. Naturally I made one for this trip, but it was Lilo's idea! (See? She IS getting caught up in the magic! )

I should make a Driving Music Mix! But all driving now is errand running...not like it used to be. No more cruising around with friends or going on those long trips to other people's colleges...with no cell phone, credit card, and very little money! Good times.

I remember my mom made me keep $5 in my car, just in case...now what $5 was going to do, I have no idea. But it was a good thought!


So this morning I am stressed! I can't believe we leave tonight. I was up until 2am packing, doing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, washing all those sheets and towels...like there is going to be a sheet and towel emergency in the next few days and my husband can't find the washer! Overkill, i know, but I like to leave my house nice when I'm away. It's only fair, right? I also got his weekend spending money out and am picking up his drycleaning! Overkill! Crazy mom alert!

I am just printing out our Mousekeeping envelopes...my last time at the Poly that part was the only fly in the ointment. (We had very nice maids and a clean room, but they never did the turn down we asked and one day our room was cleaned really late - like 4pm! and we had to skip our 3 yr old's nap.) We always tipped but I never used the envelopes - another DIS thing! What did we all do before the DIS?

I'm going to come back and post our itinerary...I hope!

Only a few more hours until we leave!

But first, the school run and errands!

Okay, it's one hour to go. Suitcase packed. Two more tshirts to iron on!

I have a massive headache, maybe from lack of sleep???

Here's our itinerary for the next few days!

Today! 1/4 Arrive late, check in, go to bed...or maybe one quick drink!

1/5 MK day! Grab a quick breakfast in the room, hit the MK.
(This is a Saturday - am I nuts for going to MK on a Sat???)
12:30pm lunch ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern, no characters. We may do this one or not. Game time decision.

After MK, clean up, have drink at the bar, hit Epcot World Showcase. Walk, eat, and drink around the world. See Illuminations. Maybe head to the Boardwalk if we're still awake. Have to go to Jellyrolls!


1/6 MGM! Do rope drop, hit big rides, see parade, etc. 3:50pm Brown Derby Fantasmic dinner package. Head out after Fantasmic to go "home" and change and then go to PI/DTD.


1/7 8:30am Ohana Best Friends Breakfast. Eat, head over to Future World, ride rides. Either come back and rest or just head right to MK.

I have two dinner ressies! One at Kona Cafe for 6:05pm the other at Narcoose's for 7:40pm so we can see the fireworks. Should we eat and see fireworks? Or be in MK for the fireworks? Or some place else entirely. Or do we wing it? Oh, the choices!


1/8 Last day! Pack up, check luggage, go and play in MK. Eat lunch and head for bus by 2pm.

And that's where we'll be for the next few days! Got to go make those t shirts now!
