trying to decide whether to purchase DVC or not. We have thought about this since 2000 and have been every year since (most years several times).

We took the tour Monday and since then, this is all I have thought about.

The final decision is mine. :scared: DH is :thumbsup2 with whatever I decide.

We'd be buying at SSR and I actually liked the place. A lot. And then I started reading here and started second guessing. Maybe that is what this board is all about. But now, i feel like a yo-yo. :rotfl:

One minute, "Yes! We're buying!" and then the next, "Nope, maybe we shouldn't." Then, "Yes! We're buying" and on and on it goes.

There was no pressure from my guide. BUT, I need to tell him by tomorrow so I can buy at 90.00 vs. 98.00 and have 2005 points with that Sept. anniversary date (getting 2006 points then).

Am I crazy for putting this much pressure on myself to decide? Will there be another deal? Are all the horror stories I am seeing about SSR true? Why did I think it was so beautiful? Is the food that bad? Will I ever get to trade to BCV or BWV? Will I like Vero Beach? Will I want to ever stay that far away from the ocean at HHI? If I buy into DVC will I live long enough to enjoy a few trips before I die??

I'm being dramatic but I think that is what being a yo-yo is doing to me. :scared:

I know what you mean! I'm finally at the "I made my decision" phase. Now I just have to call my guide and get the ball rolling.

I'm confused though. I thought the $90 price is good for quite awhile. I don't think it's expiring tomorrow. As far as I know, the next price increase isn't until March 31st...and the $8/pt incentive may still be good after that.

There are bad reports about SSR, there are also good ones too. There are times people haven't been able to trade into BC or BWV but there also have been success stories too.

If you like the place then go for it. I too like SSR.

However I know you have been thinking since 2000 and honestly it won't get any cheaper.

This is what my guide told me: I would need to let him know 3 days after my check-out date to get the 90.00 and 2005 points. Could I be stressing for nothing??

Thanks, Cobbler!

Can't help you with your decision, but we own at SSR and we love that resort. Everyone has their favorite and some people will find fault no matter how nice a place is. Some people think the bus service is slow. We have stayed there several times and have never had problems. You can have some type of problem at any of the resorts whether they are DVC or not. Make up your mind about where you want to stay and if you don't mind staying at SSR everytime (if that is all that is available) then go for it. We took years to decide about our purchase and wish we had done it when we first toured. Now we own an off-site timeshare that we would love to sell and DVC, that we would love to own more points.

If you go several time a year or just once a year for a nice long trip, imho buy DVC.

pixiedust: Here's some pixie dust for your decision.

A DVCer in Illinois wishing she was at WDW!

A few thoughts. I have stayed at SSR several times and love it. Never had a bad stay... SSR is the the "current resort" to pick on. When BCV first opened folks TRASHED it... now it's really hard to get into.... Nothing makes everyone happy!

HHI... I won't stay there. You may be like me, it is TOO far from the ocean. It's not in the plantations etc... However, I don't go there all that often so it works for me to rent from someone and stay someplace besides DVC. If you plan to use DVC for HHI extensively I would make sure you could be happy there.

Can't help you with Vero.. hopefully I will get there someday, but it's not real high on my to do list!

Good luck!

We bought SSR in 1994. Have made 2 trips since we bought and have 2 more booked. Haven't stayed at SSR yet (not because we are avoiding... just because of the types of trips planned). In each of the 4 bookings have got the resort we wanted to. Sometimes spent some time on the waitlists but everything worked out. One of the trips was at the ultra busy last week of Food&Wine and Jersey week combined. We managed to stay at both BWV and BCV that trip.

You will have to plan ahead but buying at SSR does not mean you won't be able to book other resorts at the 7 month window, (can't speak for Christmas and Easter though....)

Most long term owners will tell you that they should have bought sooner..We aren't long term yet but I certainly concur with that opinion.

Go with what YOU thought! I purchased SSR in Sept., booked at BCV at 5 months out for 2/26-3/3 (and had my choice of any resort at the time), and decided on SSR for our August trip (and one other that I haven't decided on yet). Everyone on the Boards is different and that's why some love one resort over another etc.... but do not let a few negatives throw you off balance because there will be positive opinions too. Grab the pixie dust and go with your opinion :)

Also confused by the "decision by tomorrow".

We spoke with a guide tonight and were told of all the incentives they are offering now. He never mentioned that they would be gone tomorrow. He did say that there was going to be a rate hike at the end of March, but that was it.

Hmmm...let's see...you have wanted in since 2000!!!!

Do you KNOW what points were going for back then???!!!!!

Okay....this doesn't seem like it is an itch that is going to go away unless you scratch it. I'd say go for it!! But, just be prepared....

.....the next "yo-yo" phase is, "Do I need more points?" (Here, the answer is always, "Yes")....Then, it becomes, "Should I add-on now or later?"

Seriously...you can never have too many points, and "point collecting" becomes a serious addiction!! I heard people on the radio speak of their addiction to gambling today, and thought, "That's just like me...for DVC points!" Whenever my dh asks what I want for a holiday, I respond "more DVC points."

I am now on the list for my 9th add-on. My guide called last week and was laughing at me. When I originally bought, I said to him, "We'll never need more than 150 points."....that was a few hundred points ago, and I STILL don't have enough points!! It is a sickness!! But, it is so much fun!!!

The time limit is probably because you took the tour. That is, "here is the deal and you have x days to decide."

Pixie dust as you make your decision!

The part about "will I live long enough to enjoy DVD before I die! :rotfl: " Well, I sure hope so!!!

IF you've looked at DVC since 2000, was there another resort that caught your eye more that what you see in SSR? We're fast approaching retirement age, the extra years at SSR do not mean anything to us, we bought what we really really like, BWV, WVL and VB, yup, what Beca says is true, you buy in and then you want MORE, MORE, it's the pac man syndrome.

Bobbi :)

We went through the Yo Yo thing as well.

It took us close to 2 months to do it. We did miss out on a few things, but got in just in time to bank 100% into this year, or whatever, it still confuses me. DO IT. We had the "oh my god what have we done!" and the "can we really afford this?" long after we could back out, but that is normal with any large purchase.

Maybe, as bobbiewoz has stated, it was because I took the tour ?? Probably.

Actually, I like ALL the DVC properties. Of course, I have only stayed at one WDW resort area that I hated and that was Alligator Bayou at PO but like the rest of the resort. I even like Pop and All-Stars ( :lmao: Oh the horrors!). Nothing will ever match a Heavenly bed at the S/D but otherwise, I am pretty easy to please. I just love WDW and i find the magic everywhere and if not, then I'll help make some! :wizard:

I appreciate all these thoughts and esp. a reason for my 3 day window.

I'm glad tomorrow has 24 hours in it because I may need every darn hour to make up my mind! :rotfl:

We all went through it. Go for it, and don't look back. We actually bought in 2000 and have had 2 cruises and stayed at WDW (SSR x3, OKW x3, VWL X1, and BCV x1). Not looking back, and no reason too for us!

Carol, thank you so much for the info on people trashing BCV. I was wondering if that might be the way things work around here. We just got back from SSR and had a great time. I think because of my over-planning and wanting everything to be perfect for my parents, husband, and kids, I was more critical of things than I normally would be. We had a few things go wrong (coffee pot didn't work properly and a couple of housekeeping issues), but the staff fixed the problems immediately and graciously. We transferred to BCV, but SSR somehow forgot our bags so I was pretty crabby about having to deal with that (and even when the bags finally made it to BCV they sat in the bell services area for a while; I actually had to keep running over from our room to get things like pajamas and extra pull-ups so we could get our exhausted four kiddos to bed...looking back now, it's kind of funny.) But the person at SSR took full responsibility for the mistake and credited us our dinner that night (which was actually quite expensive:)).

Anyway, what I felt about SSR was that it has great potential. I loved walking into the lobby to the strains of Vivaldi. I was actually amazed at how close it is to Downtown Disney. My dad and DS7 had a great time taking the quick boat ride to DisneyQuest to design rollercoasters. We were right across from the main pool and were very happy with Artist's Palette. We thought the bus situation was absolutely fine and had no complaints. Great view from our room of a pretty little garden and fountain. I do, however, feel like something is missing, but trust that whatever it is will come with time. I would love to sit down with the resort manager and give him or her some of my ideas about how to really make the place more magical. :rotfl2:

Maybe it is "ME" that is missing?!?! :goodvibes :rotfl:

Sorry, but getting punchy is a side effect of yo-yoing for several days. :teeth:

I don't know if this will help or not, but we've never had a problem getting into any resort that we wanted. Our home resort is OKW (which we LOVE) but for this next trip we wanted to try BCV and had no trouble getting it.

We went through the same "yo-yo" when it was time to buy, so I understand what you're feeling. Follow your instincts - if you liked the resort, then you should feel comfortable with your decision.

Good luck whatever ou decide to do. Hopefully we'll be giving you a great big WELCOME HOME soon!

Don't ever be pressured into buying anything. There are good incentives out there frequently. Who knows you could buy in tomorrow and a better incentive comes out next week. Just ask the people who bought in before the F&F deal. Buy because it meets your family needs and because you love WDW and plan to visit every year for years to come. Buy because you have the money at your disposal and won't sweat stuff like spending money, airfare, park tickets, etc. DVC is a luxury purchase, treat it as such. Buy knowing this program is the only one in the industry that has held its value. Buy because you want to, not because people here say it is a good idea. After all, what do we know about your family? Good luck.

:scared: I am STILL stressing.

I think you will stress until you take the plunge. Once you do you will feel fine and wonder what you stressed out about for so long. Kind of like going on a "scary" ride. Its the anticipation that is worse than the actual ride.

It really does seem like you want it, 6 years of thinking about it. Go small, do the 150 point minimum (if going through Disney) and go from there :)
