feeling like a blob today...recommend a diet?

Also feeling like a blob so I'm interested in what kind of responses you may get

Weight watchers... you can have everything, just in moderation. I find it less restricting and easier to deal with than being on a "diet." It works well for me.

I have been to weight watchers so many times, and I am usually super good for a few weeks, teh scale eeks slowly down a few ounces at a time. Then I fail. I lost 38 lbs on WW in 2001 kept it off for 5 years. Since then I have rejoined about 3 times a year, and have not been able to make it work. I don't know what is wrong with me. :( I just can't stick with it.

I can't really recommend a diet, because I don't follow them either. BUT, the one thing I CAN recommend is ZUMBA!! I started going to the classes 2x a week at a local gym, and I am hooked! I feel great and can already see changes. It's an AWESOME work out! (I also walk three miles once or twice a week, and I fill in with the Walk Away the Pounds DVD's).

I can't really recommend a diet either, I think you need to take a look at how you eat now and figure out how you can improve it. For example if you eat a lot of carbs, how can you replace some of those carbs with veggies or fruit. If you eat a lot of fried foods, look at baking instead of frying. I would look at just changing the way you eat rather than just going on a diet. You don't need to totally cut out the things you enjoy just reduce the amount that you enjoy those things.

I would also start getting an exercising (if you don't do that now). Even if you just start out by walking. Try to pick do some exercises that you might also have fun with, you are more likely to keep doing them.

Going to your Dr. could also help too, they can provide some more suggestions, but also make sure that there is not a medical reason for gaining the weight and not being able to lose it.

I agree with what kwelch posted: cut down on the sugars and simple carbs, eat more lean protein, drink water, and exercise.

Eh, i've always felt like diets are a temporary fix. You really need to make (and I hate this phrase) a lifestyle change. I suggest consulting with a nutritionist about your current eating habits and what you can do do make better choices.

I hate that phrase too....but it really has worked for me.

Also to add, if you drink soda I would try and cut it out, or cut WAY down. That really helped me too.

I do like Richard Simmons Food Mover plan. I don't feel like it's a diet per se but a way to alter your eating habits. You can actually eat alot, as long as you are making the right choices. Check out his website.

My husband and I started the Belly Fat Cure on January 12th. It's simple and easy to follow. It's low carb and low sugar. We've cut out all sodas. Easy to stick to.

And we've lost 10 pounds each so far.

Good Luck!

The best thing to do is what the folks above have said.. watch what you eat, and exercise at least 4-5 times a week. I would recommend eating several small, healthy meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism going and to keep your blood sugar level, which is a big cause of indulging in junk food.

Weight Watchers, but you have to be ready to lose. I lost my last 20lbs and have kept it off ...... you have to be willing change your eating habits and portion control or it will not work. As far as I'm concerned it is the best one out there.

I am in the same boat. Between the last two snowstorms and hurting my foot (cannot exercise), I think I've put on another 5-7 lbs. For the first time, my bigger jeans were tight yesterday. It's very depressing because usually when I'm ready to get my butt in gear, exercise is a big part of that and gets me started. I will work out on my treadmill for about 2 weeks before I even attempt changing my eating habits.

Right now, I can't do ANYTHING so it has been very hard for me to give up the emotional cookie/brownie eating.

Don't know how much you are looking to lose but for a significant loss you might consider Medifast. I have been on it for 22 weeks and have lost 72#'s. My Dr. is onboard with it and I actually really like it. It's not cheap and it is very restrictive but I needed that.

My brother and sister in law lost over 40 lbs. on the Michael thurmond 6 week body makeover plan. i bought it but havent started yet. it requires alot of cooking and preparing, and is basically 6 small healthy meals a day. Its a total lifestyle change where you have to make sure you eat that many times a day. My sister in law is retired, so the cooking and preparing is easy. Its tough if you eat out alot though. But they both look terrific. They started last year and have kept the weight off ever since.

Diets don't work. They have a start date and an end date. If you, or anyone else, is really interested in getting in shape the only thing that works is a change in lifestyle. So many diets will show progress for a couple of months or a couple of years while a lifestyle change can give you a healthy life for 50, 60, 70 years (depending on when you start). There are threads on the WISH boards all the time about ways to make better choices.

The key is to look at food as one part of a lifestyle, it is fuel. It isn't a friend that makes you feel happy when you are sad. Eating isn't a thing to do when you are bored. When making food choices do so not in the short term but in the long term. It isn't about what you want to eat now, it is about what you want to put into your body for fuel later. The choices you make in your twenties will effect your life in your sixties, that is the kind of long term thinking I am talking about.

Daily exercise is also important. I'm not talking about ten minutes playing wii tennis, but actual sustained motion or resistance training of one sort or another. It could be a walk around the block, a class at the Y or a local gym, a bike ride or spinning class. Anything like that. You want to elevate your heart rate and do a little sweating. Push past your comfort zone, don't stay in it.

If there are any specifics you are looking for, or even general questions, check out the WISH boards and search some of the threads. There are journals and questions much like you have that already had pages of responses.

Good luck and think long term, not short term.

Don't like "diets".....I started sparkpeople.com...it's fun and I've lost 7 lbs...not much but a start...it's a diet program with exercises, meal options, weight loss teams, health information....
