i posted awhile back that i thought my boss was gonna lose her job and that i would be offered it. well it happened today. this lady has been a close friend for ten years and I cant be happy for me for feeling so bad for her. I get a substantial raise while her pay was cut(and she is stealing from Peter to pay Paul now). DH says I have to separate the two but Im having a hard time.:sad1:

When it is a friend it is very difficult to do, at least when you are a person with a sensitive heart. It's not really a bad thing to have a sensitive heart either. But you need to look at the reasons she lost her job. Was it justified? If so, try not to feel so bad.

They are two separate issues. And you do get to feel bad while still being happy for yourself. You didn't cause your friend's firing. So let yourself commiserate for her and then later, when you feel it's more appropriate, then celebrate your new position. Someone would have gotten it since your friend was getting fired anyway. So, why not you?

I would say the same. Unless you were in some way responsible for her losing her job you should in no way feel any guilt. Do you do a good job? Do you know the position? Have you been with the company long enough to justify the promotion? If yes, why shouldn't you get the promotion?

Go rent "Broadcast News" with Holly Hunter. You will probably bawl your eyes out.;)

In it there is a scene where their are cutbacks and job loss and they offer Holly the position of her boss and of course she takes it.

Her boss says to her, something like..."it makes the sting less to know you are taking over for me", and then he kisses her on the forehead, I think.

Oh and congratulations and {HUGS}.....

The same thing happened to me back in March. They told me my position was being eliminated and I could have another position, but it would mean they had to let the other person go. I felt really bad for her and I didn't want the job, but I needed it. It all worked out for the best. I love my job now and she was re-hired just recently in another position that she loves!
