Feeling a little scared?

I know how you guys are feeling, this is like me last year. My parents and I have never been close, like I've never said I love you to them and they've never said it to me. We also never talked about anything. I would leave and they wouldn't even say anything and they wouldn't tell me if they were going anywhere. I don't know if it had anything to do with me being an only child. Basically we never had a close relationship.

Last year when I moved 3 hours away everything changed between my dad and I. We're super close now and he's alway calling me, telling me he misses me and all this stuff. My relationship with my mom hasn't changed much but I love being closer with my dad. Sometimes moving away is for the better.

thats an excellent story.. thank you

and hey! i live in valparaiso. we are sort of close to eachother!

Oho yeah I totally noticed! That's awesome. I've been trying to find people kind of close that are going...mostly to see if anyone still needs a roommate, but also, just to have someone from home to talk to while I'm there. Which doesn't really make much sense, when I think about it I guess, maybe just to have someone to talk to about cornfields and such

haha! I live in one...true story! I literally step out my back door into a corn field. Sometimes it's beans though :rotfl:

By the way
Does anyone know if you can request where you'd like to work?
A friend of mine told me that she e-mailed her recruiter and asked to be put somewhere at the AK? Can you do that?

It wouldn't hurt to shoot your recruiter an email. They can't promise that you'll get the requested location but they can put it on your file.

You can ask. There are no guarantees, but it can't hurt.

Yeah, I think I'll e-mail her. It can't hurt my chances of getting put somewhere nice. I don't think I'd like working at like...a trading pin station or something =/

If you are working in merchandise, you can work in more then 1 shop in an area. When I did merchandise, I was in Fantasyland. I worked in 9 of the 10 shops (the last one needed special training). One of the ones I worked at was a pin cart.

Hey, I just noticed you're from Indiana. I live in Columbus. So I know all about those cornfields! But more and more of them are being paved over for shopping centers...

hahahahaha.. i am lol'ing right now! i JUST got back from work and i was talking to a huge disney fan coworker of mine telling her how much i'd hate to work in a pin trading store. seriously like less than two hours ago hahahah. i also said i would probably prefer hollywood studios or magic kingdom, not necessarily animal kingdom and probably not epcot either.

:lmao:
that's great! I mean...not that I wouldn't take working at a pin station just to be working at Disney...but I could think of places I'd rather be put. Who knows though...it could be the best role ever. My friend worked at the gift shop at Expedition Everest...she says AK has the best hours....but I don't know if I'd prefer AK either. Epcot's hours would be pretty long, but I wouldn't mind being there. Or Hollywood Studios. I'd love to work at Star Tours (<3 Star Wars)

I'm getting anxious again. I told this girl at work that I got accepted and she was like "cool, my sister came home from her program early because all her roommates were mean to her" And she said all the people there were really mean. It made me so sad to hear...because I've only ever met awesome people that have done the program....I wonder where all these bad roommates come from? :scared:

ah well, just gotta keep my chin up :)

well, in that case the worst thing that could happen would be to pay the 50 dollars to switch rooms. the only thing i have to say about that is dont leave early! i dont think it would be worth it.

Dorming at college taught me about bad roommates. I worked at the front desk of my dorm and heard about how terrible people's roommates were. All I can say is that if its bearable, then I wouldn't worry about it. But if you get a roommate that is terrible and you can't deal with, MOVE! Don't allow a crappy roommate to ruin what could quite possibly one of the best experiences of your life....

Soooo I've had the worst possible week I could have right before I'm finding out about disney!! I've been dating this guy for about a month and we had just gotten in a fight about the whole leaving for almost 8 months thing. And he isnt very happy about the whole situtation. We had gotten in a fight on sunday about it and monday i woke up to the phone ringing and it was his best friend saying he had been shot at work. He's a police officer and he was shot in the back responding to a call. So i've been at the hospital all week and now im waiting for my letter and its just a horrable situtation. He's fine thank god, but who knows if this will work out because of what happened this weekend! :S

jewjubean,
I am so sorry hear about your bf. I will definately keep him in my prayers. Don't worry about Disney. I am sure your letter will come soon! Just try not to stress about it. It never helps to stress!

I just try to remember to be very open and friendly even when I don't feel like it because I am in a new situation...that is how I made all my friends at college, I decreased the size of my personal bubble which would have been gigantic because of the new situation/environment and smiled when I didn't want to and then it was just natural... Everybody struggles with roommates but it is important to keep positive and not let that intimidate you. It is all about what you make of it. If you think you are going to have a fantastic time you will... If you think ahhh!!! it is the end of the world, I can't possibly survive then you'll be miserable.

Can't wait to see y'all !!!! Spring '09 !!! It will be a blast !!!:woohoo:

thanks climber! its been a rough week and it will get better! Hope everyone's having a great day!

No Problem at all. I have several friends who are in the military, police and firemen. I worry about them like they are my brothers. I definitely understand how your feeling....

I am in the same boat. I just got my acceptance letter & am seriously considering not going because I'm so nervous. I'm shy when I first meet people so that makes me look anti-social to other people :( I'm also worried about room mates. I went to boarding school and got pretty lucky with my room mates but some of my friends had horrible ones! I'm REALLY hoping I click with my room mates because I think that will make the program a lot easier and plus it would be totally cool to be best friends with the people that you live with. I also will be in merchandise :)

Congrats on getting accepted! I'm shy when I first meet people too, and because of it everyone always thinks I'm stuck up. That couldn't be less true though! I had to finally just close my eyes and accept, like tearing off a band-aid, because I was being so back and forth about it. I knew though, deep down that I'd really never forgive myself for not going because I was chicken. I mean, I still haven't found a roommate, and I'm still nervous about that whole thing. But I know that it's no reason not to go, or to come home early. I definitely think you should accept, it's the chance of a lifetime. And just think, you'll have all these people from the boards there too...and everyone here is really nice. So you at least know there will be friendly people there!
