Feeling a little evil with Dad's Wife's Gift

I'm ready for whatever you have to dish out.

My dad's wife is hard to shop for at Christmas. She likes those expensive crystal animal figurines. We've done that for her in the past but this year (yes, due to our lovely vacation last month and a Las Vegas family reunion next week) our normal funds for the Holidays are lower than usual.

I was at the mall this afternoon and found a nice shop. It was one of those mall shops that has $10 and up stuff. I found this really nice spa gift basket with lotions and slippers and a loofa and bath salts, and then I found a nice pashmina that is 75% cashmere. They are things that she'd use and like. She doesn't like perfumes, but likes bath things.

Yep, both were $10. We also got her a shirt from EPCOT (a Corvette shirt from Test Track as my dad just bought a new one) and it matches one we got for my dad.

Is that enough? Am I being cheap? It fits our budget.

I see nothing wrong with any of that. You found thinks she will like for her--who cares what they costs?:confused3

Go for it! If she likes it awesome. If she tries to find out what you spent kick her.

I think if it's something she likes, it shouldn't matter what it costs. I've been trying really hard to focus on usefullness instead of price when it comes to gifts in the last few years, and I've found the gifts are way more appreciated.

Christmas isn't about how much you spend, but the thought put behind the gift.

If you purchased something for her that you know she will enjoy and use, you have been successful.

Why would you feel that isn't enough? It sounds like you put thought into her gifts and thats what matters, not how much you spent for them.

That's your definition of evil? :rotfl2:

If it was dog poop scented bath lotion maybe.

No...evil is when you wrap up a box of Healthy Choice cookies and give them to your SIL for Christmas (true story). Or worse, a Chia Obama head. I think your gifts sound lovely!

I would normally think it's fine but if YOU are asking the question there must be a reason why, so you must feel uncomfortable with yourself on some level. If its going to bother you maybe throw in a pair of tickets to a movie theater for them or something similar to ease your mind.

I won't judge, have to find my MIL a parakeet:upsidedow

I had a friend who was similar. Everything had to be very expensive (and if at all possible, designer). Finally, one year I figured out that the item didn't have to expensive, just the box. That year I gave my friend a Santa Claus figurine in her favorite pottery style and colors. I put it in a heavy, non-descript box with very nice tissue paper. She was really happy, because she was convinced I had purchased it from a local annual pottery artists' show (one of her favorite events). I did it partly because I said to myself, "Heck with it, I am going to get her this, because it reminds me of her and I can afford it." and partly because I wanted to prove that the price tag/designer route was just nonsense.
To be perfectly honest, I think that is the only gift I ever gave her that she was entirely enamored with. After she opened it, I didn't have the heart to tell her it was $1.00 and from her dreaded Walmart, I figured, "Why ruin it trying to prove a point?"
Put your gifts in a really nice box, wrap them beautifully, keep your smile genuine and it'll be fine.

Well, you got her a spa basket, which you know she will like. You got her a nice pashimina which you know she will like and use. You got her a matching shirt to your Dad's which I assume she will like and/or get a kick out of, so what's the problem????

I don't see cost as having anything to do with gift giving. It sounds like you got her lovely gifts that she will like.

LOL OP...I meant to add that if you think that's evil, I need to introduce you to my sister-in-law.

Then you will know evil.......:scared1:

I'd much rather have something that I love and can and will use than to get something that costs more that I have little use for.
