I had heard that you can feed the Dolphins at Seaworld. Is this something you have to sign up for? Is there an extra charge for this? Has anyone done this and how did you like it?

The dolphin feeding pool is in the Key West area. Enter the park and bear left until you get there, it's hard to miss.

They have feeding times scattered throughout the day, typically coinciding with the end of the Blue Horizon show nextdoor I've noticed. I believe the fish trays are up to $6 a piece now, with three fish or so in each one.

Get there early, as the line fills up quick and they only feed a certain amount at each session.

If you're very, very patient.. and very, very calm.. and NOT splashing the water or waving your hands... you can generally get some petting in eventually without paying for fish. But buying the fish is a pretty reliable way of getting to touch the dolphins.

They also have a more expensive Dolphin Tour, which allows a less frenzied.. less other-tourist-elbows-in-the-ribs experience. I think that tour is around $50 or so, but I've never done it.

=)

We are just back from our trip and did a day at SeaWorld; the dolphin feeding is in the Key West area, right as you enter the park. We went there first thing and waited in line forever while they prepared the area. I bought 3 trays of fish for $18 - there were only 3 or 4 fish in each tray, but it is the best way to get to touch a dolphin. They aren't stupid, they go to the people with fish! It's worth every penny to get that close to them. The also have photographers around taking your picture; afterwards, you go to a kiosk to view them. Since they cost $19.99 for ONE picture, we passed. After you feed the dolphins, you can go to the underwater viewing area.

I just wanted to let you know that even though 1 picture is $19.99, every picture you buy after that is only $5.

Is there a minimum age? My youngest is 3, not sure if she would go for it, but can't let the older 2 do it and not her! ;)

i thought they had changed the dolphin feeding. you used to be able to buy a tray of fish and feed them from the wall around the water area.
but i thought that i read that they have since changed it, and that there is now a designated feeding area; which is for a limited number of people, and more expensive....someone who has been there recently, please correct me if i'm wrong
since this thread is now over a yr old, i know its too late for the OP, but would serve as good info to those going soon

We did this a couple of weeks ago, and the only people allowed in the feeding area were people who actually purchased fish. This was even the case with one little boy who was scared to death without his dad...dad was still forced to wait outside so the poor little guy attached himself to DH and I. We enjoyed the experience...it didn't seem overly crowded and there was lots of dolphin interaction/petting while we were feeding them. I didn't feel rushed. We didn't have to wait very long because we happened to luck out on the timing.

We were just there on Sunday. First feeding was at 9:30. Only those who purchase a tray can come in and everyone three and older must purchase a tray. Others can take pictures from other viewing areas. Myself and two DDs did it. It is $7 per tray. There were about 5 fish in each which was more than I expected. One thing we found is that right at 9:00 when we got there we went to the side that was for non feeding and many of the dolphins swam near us and we were able to touch them. They did not come as close as they did when we fed them, but there was still good interaction. I would imagine that does not continue once the feeding starts as all of the dolphins were lined up on that side to eat.
