Feeding stray animals....

before I worked at an SPCA I would have said YES! in a heartbeat, now that I work there I would say no.

We get calls daily from good people who were trying to help and then realized that winter comes and with below freezing temps those strays won't survive the night. And because they didn't let Animal Control know or didn't get on a shelters waiting list to surrender, there is no space for them and nobody to help.

I wish there were harsher laws for animal abandonment and neglect for the people who make these poor animals strays

We captured 2 kittens from across the street at an abandoned house. I promised DH that I would rehome them once they were captured and tamed. He occasionally asks me about that still. When is that man going to learn??

It's sad to think of animals living outside in the freezing cold. Luckily, I don't have to worry about that so much here in Florida. I do provide them a house, though, to get away from rain, wind and the occasional lower temps. I just can't stand to not do it. I feel so bad for them, and they are gorgeous kitties too. The one is a siamese with a beautiful coat and gorgeous eyes. He's so lovey dovey. I am trying to find him a home. His owner moved about two weeks ago and left him there.

I do, because I have a huge soft spot for animals and can't stand to see them sick or hungry. All of our pets have been strays...we actually have two strays in our house right now recovering from spay and neuter surgery. They've been hanging out in our yard for quite some time and we finally decided that something needed to be done. There are so many non-fixed strays (owned??) cats in this neighborhood. I swear it seems like NOBODY in this neighborhood believes in the proper care of cats! It's like they think if they stick a collar on a cat, they own him and that's that. Never mind that pesky neutering, immunizing, or feeding business.

I do feed strays because it's no fault of the animal that it doesn't have a home. And I can't imagine passing up any creatures in need, human or otherwise.

I carry dog and cat food in my car as well as an extra leash and blanket - just in case. I'll sometimes see strays when I'm driving down small country roads, their ribs protruding and searching for food. I never pass them by without leaving them something to eat. No, I can't take them all home, but I can at the very least give them a warm meal. If they seem to be sick or injured, I'll take them to the vet and they'll help me get them fixed up and adopted.

And, yes, very often that stray finds a home with me and my family.

I'm a tremendous animal lover and want to thank anyone who helps our furry friends.
