I started my plan on January 4 th. I have lost 18 lbs in that time. I have cut back on carbs eating only oatmeal for breakfast and aside from fruit and 2 dairy servings that is all the carbs I get. I am always eating a protein at every meal and I have been drinking my water. I have not had any pop or juices at all! For excersize I have been walking 2 - 3 times a week and go to a cardio class once a week.

so last Wenesday I had a wrap for lunch. It was an additional carb. I then had a slice of toast for supper (along with protein and veggies). It was a rare addition to my strict 1200 calorie low carb diet.

I gained 2lbs! I lost one within 2 days but here I am 4 days later and the 2nd one is still here. I just do not understand! what am I doing wrong??

A couple of things:

First off: How much do you currently weigh? 1200 calories may be a bit too low if you have a lot to lose. Your body could be going into starvation mode and "holding" on to calories.

Second, you started the same day I did. I have found that in the last 2 weeks, I have hit my first plateau. This is very normal when changing your eating.

I highly doubt that those 2 "carby" things caused you to have a 2 lb weight gain, although I don't doubt that if you are very carb sensitive, it might certainly stall you for a few days.

How intense is your walking? Unless you are "racewalking" after a few weeks, the same walk isn't likely to spur any weight loss although it is certainly good for you in many ways.

I believe you've hit a plateau for a few reasons: 1) it's about that time, 2) your body may also not *like* 1200 calories--try 1400 3) you probably need to change up the intensity of your exercise.

Sounds like a plateau. Without knowing your height/weight/etc., I cannot say much about the number of calories you consume, though the number is low. WHEN you are eating is almost just as important as WHAT you are eating, though. Dispersing your calories throughout the day into six smaller mills will rev your metabolism.

I would increase the intensity of your workouts if you want to see a steady loss. Change that walk to a walk/jog, and definitely incorporate some strength training.

Good luck, and great job!

I'd say you are doing everything good if you lost 18 lbs. It may fluctuate from time to time while you body adjust. 18 lbs in that time is awesome though. I've lost 8 in about the same time(started tracking on 1st of Jan exercising on 3rd) so I'd say you are doing just fine. :cheer2:

I agree with Christine it can be trouble to stick to a strict 1200. Try adding the calories you burn on exercise days to your target. You can hit a plateau or it could just be your metabolism dropping because on days you exercise if you still eat only 1200 calories your net calories is going to be low and can throw you into starvation mode where your body is going to hold on to everything you eat.

I don't think its the extra carbs that could put it on like you are thinking but I could be wrong. Some people are truly sensitive to them if they are insulin resistant.
