Really it's very easy to get plenty of protein without eating meat!

True! Even grains like quinoa have usable (I think "bioavailable" is the fancy-pants name for it) protein. And it's been argued that many people in the wealthier industrialized nations actually consume too much protein.

I've been learning so much! Thank you!

one question: many of the posters mention freezing milk. i've never heard of this before. do you freeze it right in the container it comes in, does it expand? do you have to divide it into another container to allow for the expansion? more info please!

.

Speaking of the milk freezers....a question. How long do you freeze the milk for? Do you think the savings is lost when you factor in the electricity to run an extra freezer to freeze such items?

Just wish my kids would drink milk I end up making pudding for hubby with the milk we don't use before it spoils.

When my youngest DS was a baby, I put him in cloth diapers as well. I actually loved it and it did save quite a bit of money. I did sometimes go overboard and spend too much on cute diapers and diaper covers but in the end, it saved us a ton. If and when I have grandchildren, I'll be buying cloth for them to wear when they're at my house :goodvibes

I found children train sooner when using cloth diapers, too, so you save money by being through with the whole mess earlier. My cousin used cloth diapers for her 3 children, they were all trained by about 1.5 years. I used disposable, thought I'd never get my kids outof them. The reason is obvious--the cloth diapers aren't as absorbant, the kid feels the wet and can react to it. The disposable ones are so super absorbant the kid has no idea he just peed himself, no incentive to use the toilet when its so convenient to wear it!

I finally got my dd trained by using cloth training pants with plastic outer pants. It was hilarious, the look of utter surprise on her face when she wet and actually felt it! Great reinforcement--you go in your pants, you feel uncomfortable. You use the toilet, you stay dry. She was also responsible for changing herself, Mom wasn't going to do it for a child of 4! She knew how to go, just there was no incentive to do so. She trained herself in 2 days with the cloth pants. Think of the money I could have saved if I had started using cloth diapers earlier!

I posted this on the tightwad thread but should come in handy here as well.
Target coupon generator has $1 off coupons you can print out for watermelon and cantelope, they sell fruit in packages with slices for anywhere from .99-2.50, I was able to buy 6 packages(6 coupons) for less than $1 total, we will be using that as snacks for today and also last night after swimming.

I am trying to use more coupons and watch for rebates and good deals, I have a trial offer ($1) for the grocery game and a friend of mine told me about Refund cents, so I am looking into that as well.

Probably, but I hope not. I don't post, but I do read daily. I'm too lazy to calculate a serving of ketchup, mustard, butter, etc. I've been fighting the good fight & defending you all to the death though. Does that count? :rotfl2:

You do a great job of giving your family great meals, I wouldnt explain myself life that. If people want to complain and be nit picky let them, some people are just not happy if they can't find something to complain about!! Only my DS7 drinks milk, for my cereal and DS10 we barely have any milk in ours at all. Besides its summer and i try to make the easiest, cheapest and simplest meals that I can. I would rather spend time with my kids then slaving away in the kitchen.
