Fee for phone calls?

The first time we used our DVC membership, the .75 fee for using the phone was waived and we were told it was because we were DVC members. On a later trip, we were charged the .75 fee and when I questioned it, the cast member said they didn't know anything about it...

Does anyone know if we are entitled to being waived the phone fee? I can't find anything on the website mentioning it.

Merry Christmas!!

I've never heard of that, we have always paid for our phone calls from "home" It's been a while though, because since we all have cell phones, we use them instead the past few years.

Many, many years ago, local calls were free. Last I heard, DVC members paid 35¢ for local calls, and 800/toll free numbers were free. That was at OKW. I wonder if perhaps this policy varies resort to resort, since OKW & SSR are not "attached" to regular Disney hotels.

That's the way it was anytime I stayed at OKW or BWV as a member, 35 cents per local call, 800# free (non-DVC resorts charge 75 cents even for toll free). Last year I added one night at an AP rate at OKW, that day I was charged 75 cents per call.

That's the way it was in the last couple of weeks at OKW and BCV (free for toll-free calls, 35 cents for local calls),

Our BWV 2BR bill was 75 cents (one call), of course I asked what the rack rate would have been and he said $7,500, so 75 cents didn't feel too bad.

Local calls at all DVC resorts are $0.35 for members staying on points and $0.75 for guests who reserved thru CRO.

"800" calls are free and long-distance calls all have a surcharge in addition to usual long-distance charges.

If you are using a dialup connection, make certain that the call is local- as all calls in the Orlando area require the area code (even local calls). There is a listing of all local prefixes in the front of the phone book. Most Orlando and Reedy Creek numbers are local, most Kissimmee numbers are long-distance.

I am not bothered by phone fees but the high speed internet acces at SSR is $9.95 a day.

Even for Disney that seems a bit steep. Maybe $9.95 for the duration of the stay would be acceptable. On the other hand I paid it every day. Maybe that will help my Disney stock price.

Many hotels charge about $10/ day for internet. If you travel often, you may want to get one of the wireless cards that work anywhere in the US. I use the Verizon card.

If you are calling anywhere 'on property'-simply dial 0 and ask the operator to connect you. You are not charged for calls made this way.

For calls, internet or both?

For calls made to other WDW resorts or central reservations. I've also called other resorts direct and was not charged.

Definately NOT for internet. But basically for any "Disney"-and WDW connections. You can also call Member Services via the operator as well without any charge.

This charge is in line with other similar resorts that charge. I know one that is $18 per day.

However, most other timeshares have free internet (Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott). And most low-range and mid-range hotels have free internet (Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Spring Hill Suites, etc.) It seems the only ones that charge anymore are the high-end hotels.

Many Marriott timeshare either don't offer or are just offering internet within the last year or so. Many Hyatt hotels do charge this exact charge, haven't stayed at their timeshares. Disney has contracted this out, not used their own staff. You can still use your dial up for only the cost of a local phone call. I own at a resort in Aruba that charges $18 a day and it's slow and unreliable from what I'm told.
