federal refund deposit delay?

I submitted my taxes last friday. I got a confirmation that they were accepted on friday with a deposit date of on or before Feb.4th. I just get the where's my refund website today and now its says the 8th. Is this typical? I'm all freaked out now that there's something wrong! Did this happen to anyone else?

ETA: we efiled with direct deposit.

Mine originally said by Feb 8th but when I checked it today, it's scheduled to be deposited on Monday.

It is normal. The date Where's My Refund gives is the scheduled direct deposit date based on when you submitted your return plus a few days' window to allow the deposit to post.

Because the IRS does their deposits on Fridays some banks don't show the funds as available until the following Monday, so by giving you the following Tuesday's date through the Where's My Refund tool they're avoiding unnecessary calls from people who thought that their refund would be available to spend on the scheduled deposit date.

Well that makes sense, and I'm also pretty sure that it was more than likely accepted on the following monday and not that saturday. I couldn't imagine a govt. office being open on a saturday. <wink> So that would push it back. Its just on the calendar they have on their website, there's a pretty big acceptance date range, all with the same deposit date of feb 4th.

We were first given a date of Feb 1st, but I just checked and it said they were going to deposit into our account this Friday Jan 28th. We filed a week ago today.

I filed my federal on the 6th, I think, whatever the first day they would accept them, and my state on the 14th, they were both in my account yesterday morning.

When I checked the IRS website it said by Feb. 1st.

Ok, another tax question.

We got our w-2's about 2 hours after the deadline for the 20th of January, so or deposit is supposed to happen on the 4th. Has the IRS ever processed them and sent them out earlier then the date they state?

The IRS gives a few days to let the money be deposited into your bank account. I have a same day for mine to be returned. Cant wait!

We don't even have all of our tax documents in yet I can't believe people can file already. We have to wait anyway because of the processing delay with the new tax laws and who knows when those will be done-it was early Feb, then mid Feb, now late Feb.

As for the direct deposits-they don't process early so if you are scheduled for one week, that is the week you will get.

I have to chuckle about these questions...it wasn't that long ago when you had to send in your tax return via the mail and then wait 8 to 12 weeks for the refund. Along with that you had no way of checking up on it. It got there when it got there. How quickly we become spoiled by progress and technology.

Ive filed electronically and gotten my refund direct deposited for years-since before it was a really popular thing to do-this year i have to file a paper refund and wait. We purchased a new home on 30 December and since the husband unit was deployed we have the years extention to file for the 6500 dollar tax credit. I can only imagine how long its going to take to get my refund.

I was able to get the credit for buying a new home in 2009. I think I had the refund in about 4 weeks after my accountant sent in the forms.

We are having the same issue. Ours was accepted on Jan. 18, and the WMR site first said Feb 1....now it says due to processing delays you will receive your refund by Feb 8. Ok, well, that would be just fine if we weren't leaving for Disney on Feb 3 and our refund is our trip money. I would not have planned the two so close if I had thought there would be an issue....I have never had this happen before. It has always deposited when it says or even before. I am praying it still does deposit tomorrow.

I too heard this too..but I filed on Jan 26th and will get my refund on Feb 4th

I filed on the 21st, and mine still says the 8th.
