February vs. April?

Please help me out, not sure when we should plan our next WDW trip! We usually go toward the end of April and the weather has always been beautiful. However, with Easter falling in April next year, I feel kind of weird about having the kids out of school for spring break, and then having them miss school again 2 weeks later (I really don't dare to go over their actual spring break, which is the week following Easter).

So I am thinking maybe February, but wondering how the weather will be? I looked at some charts and it said the average temp is 70ish but I'm wondering how accurate that is? Is it warm enough to wear shorts during the day, and do you wear sweatshirts at night? Or do you need jackets? We are coming from Wisconsin and we have long hard winters so when we go on vacation we want to be warm, lol. Last time we went to WDW was in November and we wore shorts and hoodies during the day a lot of time...that was nice but I wouldn't want to go in Feb. if it was cooler than that.

DH and I were just there at the end of Feb. It was beautiful!!! I wore capris and short sleeve shirts. DH wore shorts (but he wears them when it's snowing:rotfl2:
I did have to wear a sweatshirt because I am so cold blooded. I brought a heavier jacket and never used it. It only rained for about an hour one day.
Hope that helps. You might get answers from people who have been there more then me.

Weather in February can be hit or miss. I've been and its been gorgeous. Wore shorts and t-shirts and went swimming. I've also been and had it not get above 45° the entire time we were there.

We're from Wisconsin, too. I'm thinking about going at the end of Oct/beginning of Nov to take advantage of those two days off school at the end of Oct. Hopefully it won't be snowing yet so we won't have to worry about snow piling up while we're gone.

Does your kid(s) school give you any hard time about missing a whole week?

We go during school vacations or in the summer. When my children were little I'd take them out for a few days (not for a full week). They're now both in high school and on block scheduling. There's no way they can miss a week of school.

Also, our school district is one of the strict ones on unexcused absences.

We went to Florida in February last year, and wore shorts and T-shirts during the day. I tended to wear capris and a short-sleeved sweater or a sweatshirt in the evenings, and a sweatshirt sometimes in the early morning.

We're going later this time for reasons completely other than weather, and I was really missing the break from winter in Massachusetts! I think being from somewhere cold, you'll love going in February.

Whichever time you choose, I would also consider checking What is going on at time you are going, Ie....groups sometimes take over certain parks and things are sometimes not to your liking....:confused3

When we went in Feb we wanted to escape the Canada cold, but it was not hot, we could wear capris but mornign, and evenings were cold and we wore coats, a few days was extremely cold and we had the kids wear hats/gloves all day. We had the WP and more option which went to waste as we did not go swimming at all. We were very happy when 1 day it 74 degrees. :goodvibes

We went Jan. 31-Feb. 6 this year. It was cold most of the time. My son had his heart set on seeing the Komodo Dragon at AK, but it wasn't out the day we went because it had to be at least 65 degrees outside. We watched fireworks in 29 degree weather. It wasn't bad if you went prepared and bundled up. Of course we didn't ride the water rides (there were no lines for them either:). We didn't have to lug water and misters with us either, so it is a trade off. One day there was actually ice cycles on the birds outside of the Living Seas! I would have preferred it warmer, but the only time we were miserable was when it rained one day. Just check the weather forcast and bring coats, mittens etc. so you won't have to pay outrageous Disney prices when you get there.

My kids school is fine with kids missing as well as the one I teach at. The principal requires them to do a project and I can always find something in the curriculum that they can do.

Thank you for all the input. That was exactly what I needed. I don't think I can handle hats/mittens, lol. We are trying to get away from that! Maybe we'll do the first week of March, before Spring Break hits. Hopefully it would be a bit warmer then, at least warm enough not to require hats and mittens!

Chereya, we went last year in the first week of November and it was wonderful. The weather was gorgeous, although they said it was a bit unseasonably cool. I guess the next week it was REALLY chilly, as I saw lots of people on our shared PhotoPass in winter coats.

As for the kids missing school, my youngest is going into Kindy next year and my older son will be in 3rd grade. He missed a week this year and the school/teacher could have cared less. I guess that is what you get from a school where half the boys are pulled out of school in November for the peak of hunting season. :scared1: His teacher didn't even give him homework--she said that occasional 'life experiences' are far more valuable than anything he could learn in the classroom. :hippie: That said, my older son is very advanced (not bragging, just stating a fact) and he could probably miss half the school year and not miss a beat. With my younger son I already know I will not pull him out for a week once we get past Kindergarten because he wont be able to 'afford' to miss a week.

Our school break is the last week in February. We've been there that week and its been cold. If you really want to make sure you have good weather for swimming, etc. and want to skip Spring Break times, I would go the beginning of May or in October.
