February at Old Key West - 1st Time

This will be our first time staying at OKW. We are excited as it will be another DVC resort we have not stayed at previously. We have a 1 bedroom booked from Sunday 2/24 - Fri 2/29.

Called this afternoon, asked for OKW after reviewing the pts charts (we had 108 to work with) and it was the cheapest at 110, only borrowing 2 pts from next year. But, SSR also had availability, and I didnt even check on other resorts as a 1 bedroom is exactly what we wanted, and for less pts than any other resort and only borrowing 2 - we took it.

So - tell me about WDW in Feb (we have been in January) - and any OKW info you might have.

We are looking forward to visiting OKW for the first time!

It shouldn't be crowded that time of year and the roses are beautiful. The weather can be variable, so bring stuff you can layer. We've been able to swim sometimes and also worn two shirts, a sweat shirt and a jacket plus hat and scarf, especially at night. OKW is very laid back. We normally stay at the hotel-style DVC properties but OKW is more like having a cottage. The villas are HUGE, with a full sized kitchen, a LR with two couches plus a reading chair and ottoman, a real dining area, a laundry room and enormous bathroom. You'll have a table and chairs on the balcony where you can have a meal, too. It's great. Have a wonderful time.

We've only stayed once at OKW this past Jan and loved it. You'll be amazed at the size of your villa. Have a great trip. Just curious, is the week you picked Presidents week? If so, the parks may be fairly crowded.

This is the week after President's week so the crowds should be OK. We stayed at BCV in February 2 years ago and will be again this Feb. We have done OKW 4 times in February. The weather has been great each time especially during the day. Usually a sweatshirt at night. It has never stopped the kids from swimming. OKW is so relaxing you will love it. Have fun!!!!

There was a design change while building OKW to the one bedroom units. Depending upon the make up of your party, it may make a difference.

In buildings 11 to 29 there is only one entrance to the bathroom, through the Master bedroom. In buildings 30 and higher, there is a second entrance to the bathroom through the laundry room.

Other than that, one room at OKW is pretty much like any other. OKW has no elevators, except for bldgs 62, 63 and 64. The rest of the resort has stairs only to 2nd and 3rd floor units.

I have read that the rooms are bigger at OKW, and we do enjoy the laid back atmosphere. We are members at SSR, and have stayed their a few times and BWV's once. We have liked each for different reasons, but laid back is our style. We will only have our daughter with us, and she will have just turned 4. She is already a WDW vet, she has been twice and is a good traveler.

We picked this week as it would be after Presidents week, and having researched the travel guides and other resources, it seems like a slow time until Easter hits (which is not too far off). So hopefully the parks are a bit slow.

As for the weather, just wondered if their might be a shot at hitting the pool, so I am glad to hear some of you have. We live in upstate NY, so wearing a sweatshirt at night will be a treat, as Jan/Feb get pretty cold up here. If we get weather in the 60's - great, 70's and up - amazing!!!

We have played golf at LBV, so we have been through OKW, just never inside the resort. Can't wait - and thanks for the info!!!

Hey eporter66,

You will probably be blown away by the OKW one bedrooms. The first time I entered one I couldn't move. I was so shocked. (view too on the first, water view from all windows) Sounds dramatic, but true. The balcony alone is a reason to stay there.
