QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Went to Disney land for 1 day in 1968.
Disney World I think was 1995 for a vacation and every year after that until moving here. Now we go almost every weekend to a theme park!!!

2014!!! :goodvibes
My son and I have not ever been to either Disneyland or Disneyworld! We are planning to do Seaworld the day before the cruise.
From what I've heard, if you only have one day, it's not worth going to WDW because there is too much to do and it's overwhelming. Anyone have an opinion on that????

My husband has been to Disneyland but I'm not sure what year(s) that was.

We are lucky to live about 10 miles from Mickey and have annual passes. DS works for Universal so we get free passes there form him and Sea World always runs a resident special:thumbsup2, buy one day and go the rest of the year free.
I mark every time we go to the parks and on the calendar and add them up. I think for Disney this last year was 49 entrances, 3 Disney cruises, 5 times to Down town Disney, 3 times to Universal and 3 times to Sea World. 4 Mini golfs at Disney too. So we are very lucky!!!

Its true you cant do much of Disney world in a day but if a person picks one of the smaller parks like Hollywood studios and you have from opening until late evening you can easily do it or Animal Kingdom is easy to do in a day if you arrive by opening. Magic kingdom and Epcot take longer to see it all.

Sea World is great and you can do it easily in a day. You can study a map of it online so you can plan it out. My tip is to arrive just before opening and do the 2 coasters first. Then do in any order you want. The coasters fill up fast!!

Thanks Kathy! We have gone back and forth between Hollywood Studios and SeaWorld. I think right now we've decided on SeaWorld! LOL. Do you have a recommendation between these 2 for kids? Our son will be 9 and my cousin's daughter will be 8 by then. (We are staying at the All Music Resort - a surprise for my husband who is really into music!) We fly in on Thursday so we will have all of Friday.

Thanks for your help:)

Do the kids like sea animals or rides best??
Sea world has great shows with sea animals and also has a huge kids play area with climbing stuff and a merry go round with sea creatures instead of horses. It seems larger to walk around than HS does to me.

HS has lots of stuff kids that age would like. Toy story Maina (get fast pass at opening of the park) Indiana jones show, Muppets show, Back lot tour, most would like the Great movie ride and Star tours is awesome for a bumpy exciting ride but not scary. There is a height limit on Hollywood Tower of Terror and Rock in Roller coaster , not sure what it is, if they like exciting rides.
If they like Musicals, Beauty and the Beast is good but the night show of Fantasmic is really great. All seats have a good view although it doesnt look like it. Lights, camera action is a loud, fast pace auto special effects show. My grandkids loved that!!

Just depends on what they like. If you finish early, the pools at AS Music are nice. I always go to the smaller one off to the side because its never busy. They always have pool games by the main pool through out the day for kids too. We have stayed there twice.

Another option, if its warm enough and it should be is to do a water park for the day. They have kids areas, family areas and thrill slides. I like the lazy river where you float around the entire park in a inner tube. At Blizzard beach when we are done we walk out and do mini golf right in the same parking lot.
They have a water roller coaster too. I think thats at Typhoon Lagoon.

Have fun planning. I guess you need to think about each child and figure out what they like best and go from there. One thing about central Florida, there is something for everyone!!!

If it was my family I would do Disney, just to help set the theme for the cruise. But your family may like dolphins and sea life better???

My first Disney experience was our Disney cruise in 2011. I have never been to DW or DL - just downtown Disney which doesnt count :thumbsup2

Anxiously awaiting our next Disney cruise. And if Janelle and I can ever make up our minds - we might do a Disney park pre cruise too ;)

I would have to agree with the WDW advice....when we travelled to the parks as a vacation in itself, we always went for no less than 7 days. When we began cruising, we tried going for three days after the cruise and found it was not nearly enough time.....even for seasoned WDW patrons like ourselves. So now we are up to 5 days at WDW prior to our cruise and it works about perfect. We would love to do seven, but with eight people in our party.....ouch!$$$$

We have decided we would like to participate in the FE activity this time around. Morgan is adding us to that group via facebook as we speak.....I am just NOT facebook savvy so it's best to leave that all up to her. I will stick to my beloved and very safe DIS boards haha :rotfl:

As far as the meet and greet, count us in! We have always enjoyed this. I will say however, that we are just recently coming off a january cruise with an extremely inactive and dare I say boring dis group. It took forever to come up with a meet and greet and when my DH showed up??? Not a soul was there. That was just one of many things that went wrong with that group so needless to say, we are leery of trying it all again ugh. I will admit however, our other groups were pretty good and the DIS group of 2008....wow!!!!! I don' think that group can or will ever be outdone (we even did excursions as a group!!) haha So here's to hoping we are pleasantly surprised! :thumbsup2

Has anyone thought of t shirts for this trip? I will be the first to say, I am the most non creative and/or crafty person alive, but I sure can buy buy buy!! We always travel over a holiday of some sort, so we love the holiday themed cruise shirts. this again fell through with our latest dis group and DD19 made our shirts, but I thought I would ask early if anyone has any thoughts or ideas on this as well?

The first time I went to Disney World was 1989. The first time my DH went was 2008. We went as a couple to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and because my husband said that the kids were "too young" to go to Disney World. The first words out of his mouth when we walked on Main Street at Magic Kingdom was "we need to bring the girls." So... their first trip was in 2009!

DH went to Disneyland for a day when he was in the Marine Corp back in 1991. Our first family trip to Disneyland was in 2011.

Shannon,
I have been on so many cruise meets(24) and once in awhile you do get a group that just doesnt click.

From what I have seen here I dont think that will be a problem.:goodvibes

If all else fails I have NEVER missed a meet so we could say hello;)

This is an active group and I think by cruise time people are going to want to meet each other. I know I already want to meet everyone!! Of course they may not want to meet me, I can be a bit Disney crazy at times.:rotfl2:

Plus my body may be a grandma but my mind and heart is that of a kid.
So you are warned!!!:littleangel:

I like matching shirts when possible. I have 2 places I am checking for prices and ideas for another Disney cruise I am on. If it comes out a reasonable price I will share the info here so everyone can check out designs then see if others are interested.

I had an exceptional group of folks that cruised together 3 times and we called ourselves the Bananaheads. (long story there). We had matching shirts on each cruise and everyone on the ship thought we were a BIG family reunion. The first cruise when people asked we told them we had never met but we were a Dis family. That really confused people.:rotfl:

Another way to get shirts if everyone has a printer is to pick out a design that people like, send it to everyone. Print it off with Iron on transfer sheets and then everyone iron it on their own shirts.

That way you can have a t-shirt or tank top you know will fit and its half the price of having a printing company do it. You use picures like people have for door signs. I make clothes like that all the time.

If someone doesnt have a printer usually someone will offer to print off the photo for them and send it to them and they pay them for the iron on transfer paper and for the ink and postage which is cheap.

I am all for matching shirts if others are.

Nows the time for everyone to speak up,if enough people want to do this we can start sharing pictures that people can look and consider for a shirt.

What does everyone else think?

Do you like the idea of matching shirts for the met and first day so we can recognise each other?

Kathy
