February 7, 2009 Western early check in!

Hello TinkerKat

I noticed that you replied to a post on the main board about autotrain. I thought that I would ask you over here.

Anyway living in Ca where we all drive our cars everywhere we go and public transportation is very limited, compared to many other communities and states. You would thinks for as many people there are in CA we would have a lot of public trans, but no...

I know what a standard train is around here, we have regular rail for moving people, light rail, that goes short distances(San Francisco as BART, goes under the Bay) and distrubtion of goods transport.

I feel really silly asking, But please tell me what is an autotrain? It is like a ferry, you can drive your car on, they tranport it with you on a railroad? Do you have to sit in your car? And do you have to tranfer on an off to get from NY to FL? How long does it take to get from NY to FL and how much does something like that costs? I know to many questions, but this intrigues me.

I have never heard of something like this, sorry I guess I am ignorant on this subject. I don't get to NY much, been there once for 3 days. I almost went out an googled it, but I thought I would just ask you.

I mean I drive from the middle of northern california to southern california (Disneyland) area 415 miles and it takes about 8 non speeding hours including a 45 pit stop. I have made it in 6 hours... :scared1:

I would love to get to Disneyland on a train and still have my car...

You guys will be the early groups for posting and I'll be late person for posting. it is kind of late for me 11:30pm

She is just at the beginning of her professional career. Musical threatre is what she loves best, but while in college it has been very limiting. She is finishing her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance as well as most of the courses for the 2nd BM in music education this May. She has applied to a couple of schools in CA for grad school and one in Michigan (I'm not happy about that, way to expensive and to far away for me:lovestruc, unless she can get an assistantship or something. I knew the ropes for Bachelors, but not how it works for Masters. If we are going to spend the big bucks I would rather her go to an excellent Music university that will help her to get work once she is done. That seems to not be something that they teach around here anyway. quote]

Sue, my college degree is musical theatre, i am from NYC, went to the american music and dramatic academy for college, auditioned for bway, the whole gamut was run so i would love to give any advice to DD that i can offer!

Morning sunshines!

It's COLD in Virginia today. And tomorrow is going to worse. And my boys have a bit of cabin fever and they're driving me nutso today ALREADY!

I think it's so cool that we have so much talent in this group! I was in theater in high school, does that count?

Does anyone watch American Idol? Did you see it last night? I wasn't as impressed as I have been in the past. Maybe it's too early. The new judge is... interesting. She's a bit abrupt and reminds me of a female Simon!

24 days!!!!!!

Amanda

we are actually talking idol at 8:10 on the show.....i thought the talent was marginal at best, i was more impressed with the new judge after she sang, that kinda shut up my haterade for a little bit! LOL....i thought the forced love interaction between her and paula was a bit much, but genuine so in the end, maybe it will be a good thing? cuz i went into it last night defensive, not wanting any change, i firmly stand by "if it aint broke, dont fix it!" but i am glad i was pleasantly surprised! anyone else?:confused3

So if you're talking about it on your show this morning and I make a really, really good comment you can say "My friend Amanda said..." Right? ROFL :)

Seriously though. Everything you said I agree with. I wasn't sure what to think about a new judge but I think in the end it'll be a neat dynamic. And her singing was impressive. But that bikini girl... OMG. I wanted to smack her. Could she have exploited herself anymore? And while she had a nice butt, the rest of her wasn't all that. Not that I would complain if I had her body.. lol But I digress.....

Amanda

Good morning everyone. So many talented people cruising. We should break into a muiscal number just for fun....being a theatre geek and spending most of my day singing, I forget that the rest of the world (ie: DH) isn't so excited to hear me belting "Poor unfortunate soul" at 6:00 am....But maybe you all will, especially in the Disney spirit!! (JK)

Have a great day!

Here's a fun question.... I know there hard though you can pick more than one if you need to...

Favorite Disney Movie? Toy Story, Beauty & the Beast
Favorite Disney Character? Mary Poppins

Oh you're making me think and that's dangerous...

Favorite Disney Movie? Toy Story comes to mind first, with Finding Nemo a close second
Favorite Disney Character? Tink, only because I have lots of boys. There's something about wearing a Tink shirt that makes me feel girly.

Amanda

fave DISmovie: the little mermaid but you are talking ANIMATED, yes? cuz there are TONS that are NOT animated that are amazing as well....NEMO is another masterpiece

fave characters: TINK, snow white and thumper ;)

Forgot to ask has everyone checked their reservations again to see if you've been upgraded? I have but I know our chances are small because of connecting rooms and how full the ship is. I think next time we'll cruise in January because it looked like a ton of people on the January cruises have been upgraded! I know it's luck of the draw but if I can swing the odds in my favor, well, you know...

Amanda

Alas, I have no singing talent :( , really no talent at anything. Still lookong :confused3

I did play the clarinet from the age of 9 to 19, but even there I was only 1st chair in a small pond and then I didn't thrive and pratice like I should have and just didn't stick with it. But, OMG, I lOVE music. How it makes me feel, the stories it tells, the memories it pulls out to the fore front and the emotions it evokes. Everytime I see a really talented singer, actor or musician and see them perform, especially live, it always brings tears to my eyes. I just can't imagine what a wonderful feeling they must have on stage and letting loose. I'm a mess when I go see a Broadway show or any musical anywhere really. What ever words I write I can't fully explain how music moves me.

I'd always be willing to do a sing-a-long if anyone plays the piano or guitar or whatever. I don't do it well and to the dislike of my kids I sing all day long.

Favorite movie and character - I really don't think I have just 1 favorite as much as I have favorite parts in many movies.

Favorite character - I love Pooh, Tink, I would really probably make this list too long also.

Good morning everyone!!!

SOOOO cold here too. The kids are on a 2-hour delay, so I still need to get them ready for school. Short stop to the boards though first!!!!

American Idol-- I was going to try to be positive, but so far I'm not impressed. I'm a fan of not changing what works, and I liked the chemistry (or lack thereof, lol) of the original three. Oh well-- maybe it'll grow on me :)

I need to wake up a little more before I pick favorites :) I'll get back on that one :thumbsup2

It does seem that we have a ship of "drama queens". My undergrad degree is in Drama although (and I hesitate to say this as I have done nothing significant for the cruise) my area was costume and design. My DH acts whenever he gets the chance in his job as a historical interpreter. That used to be his regular job, he has since been promoted beyond that but he still loves to put on the costume when he has the chance. He said that Drama was the most useful thing that he took at University. He is the performer in the family!! Well, he and my daughter.....

Maybe that is part of the attraction of Disney; suspension of disbelief and all that stuff. :cloud9: I have found Disney World to be like walking onto a big wonderful set. I hope that the Disney Cruise is the same.

Dee, I know what you mean about loving music. I tell a number of my friends who are musicians, “no I don’t play but you want a room full of people like me in your audience!” I spend summers at music festivals.:hippie: I have often said that my one regret is that I can’t sing or play an instrument. I tried to learn before DD was born, bought a keyboard and spent some time at it but never got anywhere. And I'm a torch singer when I'm home alone!!

I keep thinking about putting together pirate costumes but with making FE gifts (see my previous post about iron on transfers :headache:) and all of the other stuff....

I just stuck my head out the door to send the family off to work and school. It is -24C but with wind-chill it feels like -33C. That translates to -11 and -27 Fahrenheit with wind-chill. That is remarkably cold even for us!!! At least it is sunny.

We are not expecting an upgrade as we booked late and I requested to be near the kids clubs.

DH's idea of hell is driving in a place he is not familiar with so we are not renting a car. I've thought about hiring a limo but does anyone have experience with just taking a taxi from the airport?

Marie

Hello to everyone, I'm very new to this website although Im not new to cruising, I'm wondering how many children everyone has traveling with them. I have a 17 year old girl who thinks she won't find ANYONE to hang with because all of her cruise friends are going the next week. I also have a 12 year old boy and a 7 year old girl. Are you all planning on meeting any time during the cruise? I think that would be fun.

And this is for the 7 night western cruise? Im not sure Im on the correct thread, Im trying to get as much info as I can and not have to read 42 pages of posts, haha.

Hi Linda, Im new to the website, so Im not sure where to begin, it looks to me after reading some of the posts that you are planning a meeting for the adults. I would love to meet all of you. I'm traveling with my husband and three of my four children. Please give me the scoop, I feel so out of the loop! thanks Michelle
