February 7, 2009 Western early check in!

Hello Marie and Patrsn!!! Welcome to the thread! Yes, this is the 7 night Western on the Magic for February 7th :) It's a wonderful group!!! If you look at MyLove4Disney's signature at the bottom of one of her posts, there is a link to a list of all who are cruising with us. There is a meet planned for the first day (Saturday) at 2:30 at the Mickey Statue in the 3rd deck atrium. Dee is coordinating that. Also, if you send your location, travelers in your party and cabin information to MyLove4Disney, Sue has been putting the list together :)

We're almost at the 3 week mark!!! When I looked at the Cozumel weather yesterday, it was like 87.... Ahhhhh :cool1: I couldn't even feel my fingers while I was driving my kids to school this morning (after we slept in a little-- 2-hour delay... YAY!!! Praying for full cancellation tomorrow...:wizard: ). 3 more weeks... 3 more weeks... 3 more weeks...

Thanks for the welcome, Im really looking forward to meeting you guys! I cannot wait to be in the warm sun!! My entire yard is a sheet of ice!!

dont have to worry about that REALLY soon! it was cold here in palm beach county today, 53! i had to wear my ugg boots from when i lived in NYC AND a jacket! imagine that! (i know you all wanna smack me but honestly i am just gearing you all up for the warm weather cuz it really is considering a cold front as pathetic as that sounds being a northerner!)

Hello to everyone, I'm very new to this website although Im not new to cruising, I'm wondering how many children everyone has traveling with them. I have a 17 year old girl who thinks she won't find ANYONE to hang with because all of her cruise friends are going the next week. I also have a 12 year old boy and a 7 year old girl. Are you all planning on meeting any time during the cruise? I think that would be fun.

patrsn, Hi. I have 4 boys, 17, 13, 12 & 10. Hmmmm, 17 yr old boy and girl....Who's gonna chaperone? Just kidding. Welcom! My 17yr old is not quite sure about this Disboard stuff. He says it's awkward to meet people over the internet! Huh! I don't find it awkward at all! ANyway, we did the eastern cruise 2 yrs ago and had a blast! There were more than enough teens for him!

Fellow Dramaqueens, I send you Fairy dust! I am off to make Oompa Loompa costumes!

Poof!:wizard:

Hi and welcome to the new posters. My DD is 18 so there will be company for the older teens. I do have a question for previous Disney cruisers, do they allow 18 year olds in the teen only area or is the cutoff 17? Not that I'm that worried about it but I think it may make my DD feel a bit better as to have a place to hang out without us old folks around.

As far as American Idol goes I agree with all of you guys. I was underwhelmed but there have been other seasons that started out that way as well. I honestly watch the early season more for comic relief than anything else.

mickchick, my daughter feels the same way..she's only mad we aren't going the following week when all her cruise friends from previous cruise are going. We did Eastern cruise a couple years ago too, which is where she made all her cruise friends, Im sure there will be plenty of others there, y'know it's the whole gotta complain about something thing...

GP, my older daughter was 18 when we last went and she didn't have any problems going into the teen places. Im sure they only enforce that age thing for the younger kids to keep them away from the bigger kids.

smack? No-- not that harsh... But you should probably make room on your couches, b/c you might end up with several of us on your doorstep looking for someplace warm!!!

We were told by our weathermen on one station that we weren't supposed to get any snow today (maybe tonight, but I didn't hear that forecast-- my DH told me). The other said an inch or less in the afternoon and another 1-2 overnight. Well, I was sitting on my computer (shopping for pirate costumes!) and got up to get the younger DS out of his nap to go pick up the DS6 from school. It was like walking into a snowglobe and the ground and streets were completely covered (and it had only been two hours since I was outside bringing younger DS home from school). I live on a hill and made it off, but slipped and slid the whole way to the school and then almost ended up having to leave my car on National Road to hoof it up the hill because my van wheels were spinning out since they've done nothing to the roads. I guess I'm getting my wish for one big snow!!!

I hear you on the miserable weather. Today it is about 15 degrees, and over the next couple of days our lows are supposed to be negative temperatures!!! Mickey Boat, take me away!!! :)

Sounds like we have a pretty talented group. Trust me, you do not want to hear me sing!!! :rotfl:

How's the packing coming? I've got all of the boys' clothes pulled together, I just need to find some clothes that actually fit me! Who's idea was it to cruise four months after having a baby? :rolleyes1

Still no upgrade here, but I'm not giving up hope!

But, OMG, I lOVE music. How it makes me feel, the stories it tells, the memories it pulls out to the fore front and the emotions it evokes. Everytime I see a really talented singer, actor or musician and see them perform, especially live, it always brings tears to my eyes. I just can't imagine what a wonderful feeling they must have on stage and letting loose. I'm a mess when I go see a Broadway show or any musical anywhere really. What ever words I write I can't fully explain how music moves me.

I am so right there with you Dee. People probably think I'm emotionally unstable because I cry at everything - movies, TV shows, Fantasmic, but music/musicals especially. That reminds me, I have to remember to bring tissues with me to the shows this time!

I'm a closet singer, I sing at home even though I'm apparently not very good. I also love the singing video games (American Idol, Guitar Hero WT, HSM, even Disney Sing It, although the HSM and Disney Sing It songs are probably a bit too young for me  ) and get pretty good scores, but it's easier to stay on pitch then hit actual notes, so that's not really a good gauge. My son and I sing silly songs or songs we hear while we're driving, but most times it's just me singing and driving him crazy. He'll probably never watch Enchanted again - I've had that "How do you know" song stuck in my head since Saturday and he looks at me like he's going to die every time I start singing it again  ! I also really wanted to be in drama when I was in high school, but we had a really tough group of drama snobs and they just didn't like me (they didn't like a lot of people - I didn't take it too personally), so I played sports instead. I guess that makes me a wanna be drama queen ;)

We are bracing for all that cold you guys to the west have been having, but I don't think they're calling for significant snow here in MD. While I love snow, I could do without any snow around here - people in this area just FREAK OUT :scared1: when it's calling for snow, and then when it actually does snow everyone acts like they've never seen it before in their lives and they just don't know how to function. It's really ridiculous. And heaven forbid if you actually need to drive anywhere in the snow  .

I am finished with my door magnets, waiting for a few finishing touches for my FE gifts to arrive so I can finish putting them together, made my packing list, continued to add things to my packing pile, and this weekend I'll actually start putting things in our suitcases. I still have a lot to do, but my son is having an extended sleepover at my mom's this weekend since he is off school for MLK's Birthday and then Inauguration Day, so I expect to get a bunch done then. Everyone here is waiting for the Inauguration to be over simply because it's going to be absolutely miserable for those of us that live here. Multiple road closings, businesses shut down, millions of guests clogging up the roads that are open, you couldn't pay me to go any closer than we already are to DC from Friday afternoon until Wednesday at least. Oh well, at least I don't have any hotels or significant historical places close to my house - I'll just shut myself in for the weekend:thumbsup2 . Just wondering, does every drugstore, grocery store, Target, and Walmart in the country have a full selection of Obama inauguration memorabilia or is it just here? I thought about putting an Obama item in everyone's FE because they are soooo readily available, but I didn't know how everyone would feel about that - the last thing I want to be subjected to on my vacation is political talk (which always turns into political arguing!).

As far as excursions go, I'll probably get off the boat to hit Margaritaville in Key West (and grab a Key Lime Pie on a stick yum) and in Grand Cayman - I'm a huge Buffet fan and want a tshirt from all the Margaritavilles. And of course, I'll have to have a drink since I'll be right there! If my mom wants to do any shopping we may do that on GC too. No planned excursions though. At Cozumel we are doing the dolphin thing at Chakunab (sp?) through Disney. Does anyone know if they let us look around a bit after the dolphins or if we have to come right back to the dock on the bus? I'm trying to figure out how much cab fare I'll need if Disney makes us come back to the dock and we decide to go back on our own for awhile - any ideas? I've gone back and forth about the stingrays on CC - my mom is totally paranoid about it, I thought it would be cool for my son and I (and to mess with her a bit :scared: ) but we decided against it since the dolphins are so expensive.

Anyway, welcome to all the new comers! In case you couldn't tell, I'm a bit long winded - sorry. I hope everyone is as excited as I am :cool1: :woohoo: :yay: :goodvibes !

Packing... Well, I UN-packed from Christmas, so I guess that's a start!!! And I pulled a couple of summer shirts and cover-ups from the clean laundry downstairs, where they have been hanging since summer, ha!

No major musical talent here. I've played the flute since 5th grade and my DH is the music director for our church (where I am also the youth director). He's great on the piano and organ. DS6 had his first singing debut at our Christmas Eve Mass this year with Daddy playing the piano... It was SO cute :) But when I asked if he was going to do karaoke, he said "NO way!!!" Maybe he'll work up the nerve before we sail :)

Anyone have any good ideas for websites with pirate gear? I'm trying to remain cost-efficient, but I have two Jack Sparrow wanna-be's, and it's looking a little on the expensive side...

JRandAJsMom - I ordered DS's costume on sale from Disney Shopping a few months ago for like 20 bucks, but it did not come with the hat/hair thing (which is fine because last year it bothered him so much I had to carry it around all night). I don't know if they still have any there, but I was just on Oriental Trading Company's site over the weekend and they have the boy's Jack Sparrow costume there on sale for about $25.

Good Luck!

Sabrina

Edited to add : About the hat/hair thing - the servers make the bandannas into hats for pirate night also, so that part isn't entirely necessary.

WOW! we have exploded!!!! So many new people!!!

If I sing you would all jump off the boat!!! WAIT a minute I have an idea to get some us upgrades!!!

My DH is very talented (she types in a proud voice). He writes/sings his own music and lyrics, piano and guitar mostly. He plays in church and for me of course!

Fav disney movie- Aladdin
fav disney character - tigger :tigger: and stitch :stitch: -as I too have a higher than desired "badness" level!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wow so many posts since I checked last time!

It is definitely super cold here. In fact our high for tomorrow is suppose to be 14... I don't think that the weathermen should be aloud to call that a high! I hate it so much but I feel really bad for DH who leaves the house at 5:30 and doesn't get home until 7:30. So not only is it so cold for him it's also dark. Can't wait for the cruise! We went and bought stuff for the FE this weekend I was so excited :goodvibes

Fav disney movie: That's tough to pick just one!!! I think it's a tie between Meet the Robinson's and Mulan

Fav disney character: Nemo

Hello TinkerKat

I noticed that you replied to a post on the main board about autotrain. I thought that I would ask you over here.

Anyway living in Ca where we all drive our cars everywhere we go and public transportation is very limited, compared to many other communities and states. You would thinks for as many people there are in CA we would have a lot of public trans, but no...

I know what a standard train is around here, we have regular rail for moving people, light rail, that goes short distances(San Francisco as BART, goes under the Bay) and distrubtion of goods transport.

I feel really silly asking, But please tell me what is an autotrain? It is like a ferry, you can drive your car on, they tranport it with you on a railroad? Do you have to sit in your car? And do you have to tranfer on an off to get from NY to FL? How long does it take to get from NY to FL and how much does something like that costs? I know to many questions, but this intrigues me.

I have never heard of something like this, sorry I guess I am ignorant on this subject. I don't get to NY much, been there once for 3 days. I almost went out an googled it, but I thought I would just ask you.

I mean I drive from the middle of northern california to southern california (Disneyland) area 415 miles and it takes about 8 non speeding hours including a 45 pit stop. I have made it in 6 hours... :scared1:

I would love to get to Disneyland on a train and still have my car...

You guys will be the early groups for posting and I'll be late person for posting. it is kind of late for me 11:30pm

Susan! There is no such thing as silly question! Ignorant? NEVER. I can't believe the amount of people here on the East Coast who don't know about the Auto Train!
It's Amtrak and runs along the I-95 Corridor. It essentially takes the same route we would take if we drove to Orlando.
It leaves Lorton Va. Which is right outside of DC.
( takes us about 5 hours to drive there without major traffic snarls.) They load you car onto a "car carrier" You check into a coach or sleeper car. We do coach, more economical. We too are doing this trip on a shoe string budget!
The train leaves Lorton @ 4pm. they serve dinner, have a lounge car, and snack car. They play a Family friendly movie. Lights out at 9pm? Then the train arrives in Sandford Fl. @ 9am. They start calling for breakfast @ 7am.
Normally we drive. But the last January DCL I did, 2002 there was the 1st ever snowstorm in the Carolina's! It was a scary drive as most people in those parts didn't know how to drive in it. We really thought we'd miss the ship and decided to drive straight thru. Since Feb. can bring a Nor'Easter as well, I decided for peace of mind. For 6 of us, this was cheaper than Flying then car service, or car rental!

I can't believe we are three weeks out! I 'm so excited I feel panicked! Weird huh? FE goddies are done. Not the hanger thingy! I think they are too much on ebay. So I'll try to make one myself.

Does anyone know what rental car sites are at Port Canaveral? I made a reservation for a rental to be returned there but I cannot find my papers and I do not remember which company it was.

Patrsn - Avis and Budget are both near the port.

Forgot to add:

Can't believe we're getting so close!
