February 7, 2009 Western early check in!

:earsgirl:
you all have my WORD for a shout out!~ i will tell you all when i say it so we can all be online simutaneously!

It's a date. You let me know when and I'll put my mickey ears on and turn up the volume

I put the link in my "Disney" folder in my favorites... Our radio stations here STINK (sorry Wheeling), so now I have something worth listening to :cool1: Now I'm going to have "This One's for the Girls" in my head all day, haha :)

Is it funny, ironic or sad that I, too, have a Disney folder in my favorites? I may even be a bit more overly organized but I have the multiple Disney FOlders broken up by year of when I'm planning our trip, then I also have Disney folders on my desktop matching the favorites folders by year plans, ressies packing lists, ideas, etc.

I'm humming, "This One's for the Girls". It's in my head for teh day too I think :

Oh boy, I really do need to get off the site and do some other stuff but this is much more fun!

Michelle, I agree with Dee. You're beautiful. Why are you behind a radio mike and not in front of a tv camera? Very cool that we have our very own radio personality amongst us!

Dee, I know nothing about renting a tux on the ship. Sorry...

JRandAJsmom, we'll probably end up walking Key West too. I don't know how the two year old will handle it but hopefully he'll hang in there. My key points for Key West are: Key Lime pie on a stick (as Sue said), and maybe a few stops in a bar or two to see the decor. I've heard some of them are really cool. Other than that we're game for anything. I don't think we'll do the Southern tip because the more I read on it the more it sounds like a tourist trap and really not much to see. We'll see though.

I posted a question about the museums on the main board and guess what. NO ONE has answered me! LOL I'm not feeling the love!

Meant to say also, I have a Disney folder in my favorites. Along with a Cozumel folder. Never got around to a GC folder but maybe I should organize it.... lol

We are just going to walk around a bit. I do want to go to the furthest most southern point. Just something cool for us to say we did. Maybe we think that because we were in PA for a summer vacation (2 summers ago) and joined in a trivia game at the resort and one of the questions we got right was, "where is the southern most part of the USA?" Once I learned we were going to Key West I reminded my family of the game and now it means a tad bit more for us, somehow.

I would love to have done the GPS walking tour but I just didn't want to spend the $ and didn't know how the kids (or me if it is too hot) would do with the walking. So I'm going to do research and bring a map and create our own walking tour of sorts.

I found some stuff on Key West a long while back on DISboards and I seem to remember mixed reviews of the pirate museum. One person said it was too scary for their younger child (4, 5 or 6 I think), one person liked it and another did not. Not very helpful, I know. If I find anything I'll post or link to it.

*************************
Thanks everyone for trying to give me some input for the tux question. I'm thinking the ease of getting the tux on board rather than packing and shlepping onboard is probbaly a good reason to go that route.

I think I saw something about being able to pick up a free map at the visitors center for a "self guided" walk of the island. Don't remember where though and I can't find it-- Maybe I should have put it in my favorites folder!!!

I heard/read the same reviews. I also read that the ticket price was more than it was worth. But my boys LOVE pirate stuff (even though they're in the specified scary age), so I can't decide!!! I'm thinking they'll love the sunset festival performers and treats, so we'll probably just stick to that as our "main event"

Tell me more about the sunset festival please! I haven't read up on it. We have early dining so I'm not sure if we'll have the opportunity to see it though.............

Sounds good to me too! How neat will it be to hear about us on a radio station, how many other Dissers can say that?:thumbsup2

I am joining the disney favorites anonymous group... I have different folders for DCL and WDW. I al so have them for the ports etc...I wont list anymore so it cannot be used against me!:rotfl2:

OH!!! By the way we got our new room assignment since we added DBIL to our ressie. They put us back in a cat 9! I was so excited yesterday when DH checked the DCL website. What he did not tell me until later was SHHHH that he proceeded to get on the DIS and do a search for our cabin number to see what the reviews were :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Do you know how much he and his brother make fun of me for the DIS?? Well...:lmao:

2 words for Key West, Duval Crawl. lol

DW and I did Key West a few years back. We took the Conch tour train and walked Duval St. Duval is a fun place to people watch. If you do decide to check out some of the bars be ware that there was at least one that the upper deck was clothing optional  . It is a very coloful place and we have yet to decide what we are going to do there. Looks like sunset will be around 6:18 PM and I can say it is spectacular.
DD is more excited about Cozumel and Grand Cayman so she can legally have an adult beverage with us. The only excursion we are really thinking of is the Island tour and butterfly conservatory on GC. I love to take pictures as a hobby and think that would be cool.
As far as the port I am most looking forward to it would have to be Port Canveral on the 7th. On the same note the port I am least looking forward to it would be the same on the 14th.

Since it seems that most of us have been on more than one DCL cruise I thought I would ask what shows you go see and which ones you skip?

On our first cruise we saw everything except the golden mickeys. Somehow we missed it last time too. We love the comedy and magic shows, I always try to catch them for both the family and adult shows. I love both versions in Rockin' Bar D too. It is neat to see how they relate to the kids in a smaller setting. We saw one of the acts on last comic standing last season. Ok now I am rambling.

So what do you see and what do you skip?

Hello hello hello....
Here I am for the first time today reading 3 pages of posts! I usually am on early in the morning too. Not 4:30am though. ALthough I have been on at 2:00 am before...

I am looking forward to hearing you tomorrow morning Michelle. I have been humming "this ones for the girls", now I will challenge you all to getting this song out of your heads..."All the Single ladies, all the single ladies..." Who doesn't love Beyonce?

Dee, I may be the one with the lampshade on my head, I'm not gonna lie, but it really depends on the condition of the waves, if it's bad, I can't drink... Which may be a good thing for everyone. Although I've been caught wearning lampshades before when sober, so one never knows!!:cool1: :cool1:

So, I'm not really a celebrity, but I do own my own Children's Theatre. (www.wishingstartheatre.com). You can find my pic there if you want. Right now, I don't act much anymore, 3 of my 4 kids are actors and models... me, I just work hard to keep little people full of self confidence!! We are working on Willy Wonka Junior right now and I will be on the cruise over the next show... We just did Aladdin and I loved singing the songs everyday with my students. They all think I'm nuts, cuz everything at the theatre is DIsney. We will be doing High School Musical 2 on stage next. This is HUGE, we are the first studio in our area to hold the rights for this show!!! The Lake County Premier!

lastly, KEY LIME PIE ON A STICK!!!! Holy Cow!

Have a GRAET afternoon! I'll check in after work tonight!

with a smile and a song....Linda

On our first cruise, the only show we did make it to was the Golden Mickeys!! :rotfl2:

I am hoping to make it to the rest of the shows, even if I have to go by myself, my two DS are not into that sortof thing...

Pam

It sounds like we are going to have a run for our money in the Kareoke department with all the singers in the group!!! I'll do you all a favor and remain in the audience to cheer you on :cheer2: Or perhaps I will be the one to provide the lampshade entertainment by the piano :rotfl: I just found out that the hotel that I had all those problems with is not only crediting my rewards account with 5000 points, but they are refunding the room for that night, so I'll have a little bit of a "Mommy's Slush Fund" to aid in the process, haha :)

I just ordered a fish extender!!! I'm not talented enough to make one myself, so I went the eBay route... I'm hoping my idea to have her leave the pockets without an image so I can iron-on Peter Pan stuff will work out. I can't sew, but I can iron with the best of 'em :laundy: Has anyone ever tried those iron-on pages you can print on your computer??? PLEASE tell me they work!!!

Glad to hear you got back to a cat 9 you will really enjoy that. Would you like me to update the main listing with it number? I enjoy cat 9, not sure I would use anything higher, because most of the time I spend outside I spend up on deck 9 or 10. I prefer to spend the extra cash on maybe another cruise.

Since it seems that most of us have been on more than one DCL cruise I thought I would ask what shows you go see and which ones you skip?

So what do you see and what do you skip?

We saw all the big productions. We missed all the comedy, magic, etc in the smaller club-like locations. Just too hard to get out with two youngins and it was only the 4 night cruise and just didn't want to miss the bigger shows.

I was disappointed with one show. Don't remember the name of it but it took place in a girl's bedroom and then different characters from Disney worked their way into the story. They said it was award winning but I enjoyed the other much more. They made me emotional or gave me tingles. This one left me flat. I'd try it again though. It may have been I was tired or something.

I believe that on the 7 night cruises they do matinee shows so I'll maybe lookinto these if they are during at sea days so my evening is freed up a bit.

So, I'm not really a celebrity, but I do own my own Children's Theatre. (www.wishingstartheatre.com). You can find my pic there if you want. What a cutie pa-tutie you are! How wonderful owning and running such a fun theater! We are looking and researching getting our kids in some acting programs. They are each so creative and have so much extra energy. We're hoping to help them find something that they really enjoy and can focus all of their huge amounts of engery into...Like the olympic swimmer, Phelps or Philips did and look at him today. My two need something.

I read on a FE thread about others using the iron on images and it working. The only caution I remember them stating was to be sure the fabric isn't too dark or the image won't show well. Then someone else suggested placing the image on the iron-on product with a lighter background or iron on to lighter material then sewing or fabric glueing onto the darker material.

Our 1 year puppy...she's a terror mix, oh I mean terrier mix...well she ripped into my sealed packaging and ate part of our FE. So now I have to do repair work. Luckily it was only $2 and not customized or she'd be back in puppy jail (only kidding')

Oh, I'll bring the lampshade for the rest o fyou if you wish...and the camera of course :)

Dee, I undestand about the puppy! We have a 1yr old Shepherd who is about 110 lbs! He loves to eat pkgs too! If he wasn't so cute he would've been GONE by now!

Rented a van from Budget today...$125 from WDW to the port. I think it was a pretty good rate for a mini van. I like that we can leave whenever we want and get to the port earlier than the Dis buses...anyway, it all seems so real now!

Michelle, Julliard, wow! We do have a lot in common! I can't wait to meet you all. I'll be the one wearing the lampshade!! (I mean, sunscreen)

Going to bed now, it's freezing here, -1 right now! brrrrr

Oh yea, swim trunks didn't come today! What's going on Target?

:goodvibes I have been reading all of your posts with interest and look forward to meeting you all, especially meeting you in the sunny warm south. We had a blizzard today and the temperature is set to plummet overnight to -22 Celsius which is..... about -8 Fahrenheit according to the chart I have. As I said to my DH on our way home from work, 'just think about where we will be in a month.":cloud9:

I haven't been posting but have been planning and packing when work and Parent Council obligations don't get in the way. In between all of that I have struggling with Microsoft word do make an iron on design, with text. I am not at all computer savy but I finally have something acceptable (although not perfect) and I have tested them. I can tell you that the iron on sheets that go through the printer do work. If you want to iron on dark fabric they sell iron on transfer paper specifically for dark fabric. Keep in mind , if you use text you have to reverse it for the transfers for light fabrics as they are face down transfers BUT don’t reverse it for the dark fabric transfers as they are face up……. I learned the hard way….take advantage of my lessons….. Maybe your product will be different but be aware. It was very frustrating:confused:

I have also been reading the posts – I guess one calls that lurking - I do it at work and it adds a little bounce in my step.

Thank you for all the tips and thank you to the kind souls who are organizing us and welcoming us greenhorns! I too thought that cdnstichfan was an embroidery enthusiast; I guess that is because I am one. Then I thought to myself “this is Disney-speak fool”; she means the other Stitch!! :upsidedow

I made reservations for Friday night at the Radisson in Port Canaveral. We plan to arrive early (or maybe even the night before) and spend the day at the Space Center. We will certainly join a meet on Friday night.

I know that there is more I wanted to mention but it's the end of a long day ... I am excited but my excitement is tempered by the lists of things yet to do. Can’t we just fast forward to the sail away party?

Do any of you have recommendations for a limo service?

Hello Linda, my DD has basically done children threatre from the age of 8 until graduating High School. She would sure love to chat with you and Princessmeesh your DH also.

She is just at the beginning of her professional career. Musical threatre is what she loves best, but while in college it has been very limiting. She is finishing her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance as well as most of the courses for the 2nd BM in music education this May. She has applied to a couple of schools in CA for grad school and one in Michigan (I'm not happy about that, way to expensive and to far away for me:lovestruc, unless she can get an assistantship or something. I knew the ropes for Bachelors, but not how it works for Masters. If we are going to spend the big bucks I would rather her go to an excellent Music university that will help her to get work once she is done. That seems to not be something that they teach around here anyway.

Her high school band teachers son attended Julliard for composition and is now a professor there. Not sure if he has his Phd or not, but at least he got is masters there. He is very talented. Any how it would be great if she could chat with some professionals.

She is opening this Friday as one of the three ladies in the Opera the Magic Flute this weekend at the Modesto Gallo Performing Arts Center, she has the mezzo soprano part. She is very excited to perform in her offical 1st professional performance. She done many community threater events and only one other of this level, but it was not paid role it was HMS pinafore at the Mondavi Performing Arts Center in is CA. Hmm I see a theme, California Wine.

Anyway it is great that there will be so many talented people on this ship.

Gosh I am getting really excited. I can't believe how many post we are getting on here.

We have posted 222 post since 1/1/09 that is just 13 days That is more than on a third of our posts in just 13 day. Home many will we have in the next 24 days.
