February 7, 2009 Western early check in!

Good morning from CT,

Weather has once again become a topic up here. Back to single digits and possible new snow storm Wednesday. We need a smiley dressed in a parka or a polar bear smiley.

My family is sort of visiting WDW. It doesn't look like we'll make it into any of the parks this visit. Like Mickchick said
the park passes are kicking our vacation budget in the behind
. We can't even look into passes at this point. What we are doing is Sunday after the cruise going to our yearly favorite, "Hoop-Dee-Doo review" and Chef Mickey our last day in Florida. Maybe we'll see if we can visit some of the hotels. We've never seen the AK or Dolphin and some others. Can someone not staying at the parks visit the hotels? Everytime we go to Chef Mickey they ask us at the gate our reason for the visit and expected time to leave so I'm not sure if we can visit. Anyone know?

Marie, If feel for you and your plumbing nightmare!!! Thank God you have good neighbors because the cost of having to stay at the hotel on top of the plumbing costs! OMG. You hang in there.

Onto non-Disney stuff - I forgot Medieval Times was down there. It's quite a drive from Daytona but that is really something different for my family. I'm the only one who has ever gone. Nice tip Marie!

We may also due The Space Center. We did went two years ago and I was delighted to see how DD enjoyed it. I knew DS would. It is much more $-wise and the tickets are good for two days.

Michellepooh -
I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you. We seem to have a really good group. Some of the other cruises I've been on got a little "clique-ish" with the meets, but everyone here seems really friendly!
What a shame your last experiences were like that. The clique factor exists in everything doesn't it? I'm the PTO president of our two schools and I have had parents say to me and have heard of parents saying to others that they will not join the PTO because of a cliques. If there are cliques in our PTO I'm completely unaware of it but I guess the perception of a clique can be just as harmful. I think that groupings may naturally be created by people just getting along easy but I, like you, feel this is a nice group of people and everyone will be made to feel comfy joining in even if a couple of people hit it off right away.

I hope this doesn't get lost in my long entry but have any of you ever gone to the Disney Store Outlet just off of the main Florida highway? What is the highway's name? It is within one the malls. The items are hugley discounted. They are the previous season's items. We got Jordan a beautiful Belle costume for $20 and it was origiuannly $85. They even have trading pins at a discount (not all but some). Check it out.

Toodles for now,
Dee

Dee, If you are going to one area of DW just use their busses to check out the other hotels. AKL is worth it. That was the first hotel I ever stayed at in WDW and it is still my favorite. Swan/Dolphin hotels are nice but you can tell they aren't owned by Disney, don't know why but the attention to the details just dosen't feel like what I'm used to.

I will be finishing th FE tonight and I'll try to post a pic if I get the chance. Our box of FE stuff arrived the other day so I think we are set in that department.

10 more days till our adventure begins. Dee or anyone else driving from New England if you happen to see a black mini van with a Grumpy sticker on the back say Hi. We will be departing sometime Wednesday next week when I get out of work.

Hi everyone-

I'm so excited to say that we leave next week! Our family will not be visiting the world on this trip. :sad1: We fly in on Friday night and back out on Saturday afternoon. We just couldn't swing more vacation time, not to mention the expense. We were just there last March though and I'm sure we'll go again in another year or two so I guess I should stop feeling sorry for myself.

A few pages back someone (DizNutDad?) asked for favorite foods. My family talks endlessly about the chocolate chip cookies we got from room service. They are not on the menu but if you ask they will bring them. I had learned this tip from the boards before our 4-day cruise and that along with the "All Hands on Deck" cheese platter were awesome. Very nice to relax on the verandah and have our own little happy hour.

My favorite tips was already mentioned (the over the door hanger-truely a god send) but another is to leave a wake-up call for some morning and let your kid answer the phone. Everyone's favorite mouse does the honors and it is a nice little treat.

I'm so glad that this group seems so friendly and engaging. I mentioned to a couple of people that I ended up being really disappointed by our cruise meet on my previous cruise. We had set up a time to get together on the first day and only one other couple showed up. All these people that had been super active with posting leading up to the trip were total no shows! I felt really stupid dragging my family away from the pool just to go sit in a lounge and stare at each other. So I'm happy to see that this group is bonding so well and has a couple of people willing to be organizers. Looking forward to seeing you all on the boat! :grouphug:

Guys, I have a facebook, Search Michelle Patterson, I don't update it alot, just go on there to check in on my kids' facebooks but I'll keep an eye out for anyone from the board.

I also think we have an awesome group here. It makes it so much more exciting, for me anyway.

Mickchick, where are you guys staying in Disney? We are at the Wilderness Lodge.

Dee, The wilderness lodge is a cool place to check out with the geyser and stuff. We'll be there!! I agree about the dolphin and the swan, we've stayed at the swan and it was a big convention type hotel, and I mean big, but not disney themed, which I totally missed. The boardwalk is cool for just walking around too. Im off to Old Navy, looking for bathing suits for DH and Ds. Have a good day everyone.

ps, my facebook has a picture of my daughter skating..

I will DEFINATELY be at the meets!! not to worry..

We are not visiting WDW.. DS chose full cruise and with my vacation schedule, we were lucky to get 6 work days off. We will eventually do a full park trip one of these years.

Someone mentioned hair cuts - we've done all that over the last week too - yea! I have all dinner clothes set aside and am getting the rest ready. For some reason, DH thinks staging packing in MY closet is the best idea ever... oh well, at least I know where things are.

Its hard to be HERE when I want to be THERE!

Margo

Sue, I added you as a friend on Facebook.
Michelle, there are 433 Michelle Pattersons!!! LMAO Which one are you?

Ok, the cruise docs were great, but I was still in the "it's not close enough yet" mode... But today's package got me there! My FE came today!!! Now it's time to see if my iron ons will work (the fabric does seem light enough), so that's my project for tonight!!! Once the pirate costumes get here, there will be no calming me down, haha :)

WDW is a huge dilemma for me... I have two non-expiring passes for the boys (each is for 2 days). If I transfer those to cards (they are the old school paper ones that never expire), do they then fall into the "must be used within 14 days" trap? I don't want to waste a day off of the ticket :confused3 The other dilemma is we would go on Saturday so we would have Sunday to relax before we head back to the airport. Problem: our hotel for Sat night is at Cocoa beach and it's already paid for (DOH!!!! :badpc: Note to self-- when you do internet ressies, read the fine print AND make sure you really want the plan set in stone before you finalize it...). Since they refunded our fuel surcharge, I was kind of thinking that cancels out what I paid for the hotel, so it ended up even in the end if I decided to blow off that reservation. I have points to get a room at AKL if I REALLY wanted to so no "cash" out of pocket and I'd still have enough points for vacation plans. DH doesn't quite see it the way I do though and would want to drive to DW, drive back to PC, then back to MCO on Sunday afternoon/evening. So, at this point, I'm looking for an alternative to DW and thinking along the lines of adding Disney to the bounceback.

So here's the resulting question: what are some of your favorite non-DW things to do around Port Canaveral? I don't know if my boys are old enough to enjoy the Space Center-- they're 4 and 6... Any suggestions? :confused3

I have been involved with a lot of online groups over the years and eventually it seems like cliques do evolve. But I don't feel that way with this group. Hopefully after you meet me you won't completely shun me to the side. ;) I'm one of those personalities that comes off as shy (and I've been told snooty though I swear I'm not) and quiet in the beginning. It takes me a while to warm up. But once you get me going I might not shut up! LOL

I managed to get some packing done this morning. Yay me! I found out I don't have a small purse that works for all of my dinner outfits so I get to go buy a new one! Shhhhh... don't tell dh.

No need to apologize! I just thought it was funny!! I figured it wasn't a good idea to start asking for random Michelle Pattersons to be my friend. Seems a little desperate! lol

maybe if you type in Scituate, ma?
I don't know how to find anyone!!!!! Pg and Jr, what are your facebooks?

margo, I cannot find you at all

We posted at the same time. You figured it out better than I did! I have pushed the add button! :)

So much fun to add my new DIS friends to facebook! :wave2: Michelle V, I'll have to add you. There are too many Michelles here! Although that was the same for me growing up. I was always Michelle H.! Drove me crazy!

patrsn - you said you're staying at Wilderness Lodge. Before or after the cruise? We're staying there for one night post-cruise.

I've started packaging up my FE gifts. Don't ask me how I'm going to fit all of them in my luggage..... :rotfl:

I used Michelle's email to find her. My email is don't worry about it which you can use to find me on facebook - She and I are now friends and so you could hook up to her through me.

If we start hooking up out there we might have facebook start asking us about each other...

I can overwhelm when I meet people due to how I manage stress... I tend to talk and get giddy. But its at least good energy.

So bear with me too!

Think "no snow"....
