I printed a bunch of pictures for my door but I gave up on trying to put my name on them.
I suck at all that stuff!
I think I might have printed TOO many signs though but I couldn't choose! There were so many cute ones to choose from! I got all my pirate stuff ready to go! ARRGH!

I hope everyone is having a better Monday than me! My hopes and dreams almost got shattered to a billion pieces right now.
My boss just told me that the branch manager told her to deny my vacation request for the cruise. (Which she ALREADY APPROVED!) He said that I shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere during month end. I've been here for 4 years and never took more that 1 day vacation at a time and the jerk is trying to get my boss to not let me go on this cruise! He's insane!
My boss told him that she wasn't gonna do that to me. She already approved it and knows that I've been planning this since April last year AND it's for my daughters birthday! He didn't even care about that!
So she told him that SHE cares about it and she wouldn't even think of doing that to me. She told me not to worry about his dumb a$$ and enjoy my vacation. She said I work hard for her and I deserve it. Especially after being here for 4 years and never taking more than a day off.
I was like "Thank you boss lady!!"
We don't even get paid for sick days! If I want to get paid, I have to use a vacation day! So that's where a lot of my vacation time went too!

So, the branch manager is NOT my favorite person right now. He's on my "you know what" list.

Man...first a jury summons, then this. What's up with a conspiracy not to have you come with us???

That's crap. I'm glad you have a boss who sticks up for you. And in 19 days, you won't be able to be reached or bothered by any of it.

The big boss at my old job did that to me once. I had planned a 9 day vacation at Disney World to accompany DH to a conference his agency was hosting. The plan had been approved and done for months. Finally, the day before I left the big boss had a hissy fit!

He claimed I never let him know I was going , and tried to make my boss make me stay, but I refused, and said I would rather quit than forego my vacation, at that job I didn't get paid vacation time nor sick time, so every time I took off I was loosing revenue, and I never called in sick, worked extra hours, etc.

I went, and the big boss had the gall to bully my team mates into calling me while I was trying to enjoy a stroll around Epcot. I was soooo angry! I had to run back to the hotel (thank goodness I was staying at the Yacht Club), borrow DH's laptop, log into work and create *get this, it's rich* a STICKER for a press kit that wasn't going out until a week after I had gotten back.

That's pretty much when I decided I was going to either quit or get another. job within the year and a half.

I am so glad your vacation won't be affected, I'd personally go to your bosses boss and smack him with a coconut if he had gotten his way

The way I see it, Alan, there are basically two reasons that Disney is going whole-hog with the Pirates theme:

1. Disney owns the whole Pirates of the Caribbean thing, and wants to milk it for all it is worth. It's called riding a winning horse.

2. We will be sailing (figuratively) in the Caribbean and the history of that area is very closely tied to the whole pirate thing (see #1). Yes, there are other things, but the pirates are the most "romanticized" part of the history.

Look at it this way, as long as Mickey is sailing the Caribbean, I'd prefer a Pirates theme over other, more recent, parts of Caribbean history.

Imagine, if you will:


"Colombian Drug Runners of the Caribbean"

or

"Communist Dictators of the Caribbean",

or

"Evil Haitian Despots of the Caribbean",

or even

"Marijuana Smoking Rastafarians of the Caribbean", mon...


...you get the idea. So...

"Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a Pirate's life for me..." Arrrr!!

First off... these door signs are incredible.... and I must be a teck moron because I couldn't get the simulator to work for me. I'll keep trying though because I definitely want one of these on our door!

Vanessa - your story made my blood boil. I can't stand people on power trips like that: there is no reason for that kind of behaviour. I'm glad that the work culture over here is very different towards vacation. German companies want their people to take their 6 weeks per year and to spend it on staying healthy, having family time, and to rest and regenerate in order to stay a good worker. From what I remember of the US, the work culture was work until you die and then pay us for that, too. Has it changed? We'll just make sure you have double as much fun so you can forget about who you work for.


As for St Croix, we still have no plan. If anyone finds anything interesting, we would consider joining an outside tour/activity.

I am leaving my evil felines of doom at the kennel, I won't risk coming home and finding it on fire, flooded and later cut and diced in that order. They behave just fine when we are around, but they can open doors, turn faucets on, and I think if left along enough they'll figure how to use matches.

Haha! I'll be goofy with you, can't let you have all the fun.

PS: BTW if I get misplaced while on the cruise, I want this one to be my missing persons photo... overall if I "disappear" on Cast Away Cay... they'll never find me... NEVER! BWAHAHAHAH!

That's a tough one...I might have to go with A...if I were BLIND and didn't read any of your prior posts or witness any pictures!

It doesn't surprise me that your house is small with practically no storage space - like the rest of Europe...If I moved there, I'd have to get rid of A LOT of stuff.

...unless a pirate came and stole it on my trans-atlantic trip...then I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Dave- Man I love your pictures! You crack me up! And as far as bosses on power trips, THAT is the perfect description of HIM. He just started as our branch manager not too long ago and he's been walking around here literally REMINDING people that he's the boss. He makes me think of that Southpark saying "RESPECT MY AUTHORITAAY!!!"
I need to move to Germany. I already drive a German car so maybe I'll fit right in! You get 6 weeks?? I've been here for 4 years and barely got 2 weeks vacation this year. I have be here for 10 years to get 3! No exaggeration either! OH and then they laid people off so me and this other dude are doing 3 jobs each! Actually, it's 3 and a half cause we both answer the phones now cause they don't want to hire a receptionist! Did they pay us more?? NOOOO!

Well UPS tried to deliver cruise docs today, but I was not awake yet so I had to sign the little slip and get the docs tomorrow. Ness I am so happy your boss stuck up for you. That happened to DW once at a previous job, her boss said I am going to take back your approved vaction, she just flat out told them ( since they tried to take it back 3 days before we left) that if they did they would get a notice to apper because of a lawsuit she would file. They quickly changed their minds.

Holy annoying boss batman! I have a slight time off problem but I'm not worried about. My boss 3 steps up said there will be no telecommuting or vacation time for Jan and Feb. Our flight leaves on that last Friday. My direct boss thinks this is as much BS as us employees do so I'm sure he will let me fudge my time and put the day in March. I'm happy to have a reasonable boss.


Our flight leaving Orlando is around 8:30 pm. We have been dreading our full day at the airport with 2 young kids. I just booked us a day pass at the hyatt! I think it will be a much better way to spend our day!
