February 28, 2009 Bushwacker Banditos Magical Cruise

Dibs on the castle-view room, Dave!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My concern this time of year is not missing the boat so much as not being able to get down to Calgary due to weather on highway 2. We are a 5 hour drive from the airport (on good roads).

So we are driving down 3 days early and staying at Wanda's house... ;)

Actually we are driving down the day before we have to fly and staying right at the hotel at the airport.

John

DH kept pulling my leg and trying my nerves earlier saying he wanted to drive from Tallahassee to PC the same day of embarkation :drive: I told him that he should have learnt his lesson after that one year when we drove from Tallahassee to WDW with tickets for MNSSHP and missed it all when our car broke down suddenly, without warning right at Gainesville.

So... he got us a room at Pop Century for the night before :cool1: . I think he knows better than making me antsy, I get this slightly psycho look :crazy2:

No more even kidding about the flights being missed or things being cancelled. I'm generally not superstitious, but if you talk about it too much, it makes me nervous! :hyper:

So... that is why we fly down to FLA on Thursday prior. We don't even want just one day... we need two days advance. Not that the weather is anywhere near as threatening as Buffalo or Canada! But it also helps us not be worked up on the day before or day of departure. We have some time to chill out and get into vacation mode.:cheer2:

Dave - here is my understanding of Fish Extenders (note that I've never done it myself).

Fish Extenders are these things that you hang from the fish outside your door (There's a decorative metal fish that probably serves some purpose, but i'm not sure what outside each door - I'll try to find a picture...)

Anyway - people make these fish extenders that are basically a piece of fabric that has lots of pockets and you hang it from the fish. Then you put a little (and I mean little) treat in it each day for the other people in your group. Kinda like a secret santa. As a group (pre-Dave) we decided not to do it - those who had done it before were just not keen on it. And I'd agree.

So... chef lawrence, no go on the FE's. Sorry if you were really looking forward to that.

Has anyone had any ideas on what we can do for the kids during our meet prior to the lifeboat drill? Coloring? Hidden mickey searches? Ohhh... maybe I can make up a Disney Magic word search (unless someone's already done one...) with stuff specific to the ship. How hard can that be?? Any other ideas? Or just let them entertain themselves? :confused3

*Pictures herself sneaking into the meet, grabbing a coloring page and telling people*:

"Shhh! I am coloring here! This requires mighty concentrating power! :artist: " :rotfl2:

Good Luck on that drive John

I think we wished we would have flown earlier as well. Last time we went to WDW, 2 years ago, we couldn't get a room in Buffalo the night before because of the freak snowstorm that happened a week before in Buffalo and Fort Erie and that was in OCTOBER!!!!!!!!!!

So I am crossing my fingers that all is well in 4 short weeks!

PS I notice you have a 7 year old daughter, we'll have to get together with my 8 year old, 2 "CANADIAN PRINCESSES" I am sure princess: princess:

No I was just wondering about them as I had not seen any discussion and someone who went on the Wonder in the fall told me about the extenders

Yeah, I'm not too worried about missing the cruise as we will be in FL five days before. I figure giving myself a full day to make it to Calgary will suffice.

We'll definitely have to get the girls together. Too bad they will probably be in different kids' clubs, Sarah is registered in the Oceaneer Club, which is up to age 7. Her older brother (10) and cousin (9) will be in the Oceaneer Lab, which starts at 8. Of course, there is always the possibility of her moving up to the Lab.

Johnna, one way to keep the kids occupied during the meet is to give them a Hidden Mickey hunt... ::MickeyMo

... and if that fails, there is always the reliable standby - duct tape them to something stationary. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

John

I actually found a website where you can make your own word search - so I typed in a ton of stuff, and then the word search was so hard, I couldn't even do it! :confused3 (I know what you're thinking... that's not saying much... :rotfl2: )

So I'll either break it down to two different ones, or just one more easy one.

I posted something on the main board, but haven't gotten anything helpful yet...

Duct tape is a real possibility....:rotfl2:

YAY!!
I checked on the DCL website and got my flight info!
I gotta be up at the butt crack of dawn on the 27th. My flight leaves here at 6:40, which means I gotta be at the airport 2 hours before.
Eww...:crazy2:
Then we stop in Atlanta at 1:47pm and then leave there at 2:50. We'll be at MCO at 4:25.
I hope I don't have a middle seat. Last time I flew with my family I didn't even get to sit with them. I had to sit between two strangers. :crowded:

Our cruise is almost here!
Can't wait! :hyper:

Hi,
I know that I do not post much but I do try to keep up with your posts. I have been in training to try to keep up with your drinking schedule!!!

For the kids- How about a scavenger hunt type of game.
Each of the kids will be given a piece of paper with a grid with different descriptions in each box like
"some one with blond hair"
The kids have to get someone who matches that description to sign the square. It is fun for the kids and they get to meet the other kids while performing the same tasks. That should not be to hard to make up. Even I could probably manage!!!

I have finalized all of our trip plans.
We are staying at the Raddison after we fly into MCO on Friday night.
We have a limo service taking us to the Raddison-less expensive than Disney transportation. (Thanks to the post about lower rates we have saved $100)
We have made our shuttle reservation and so we are all set.

The trip is so close and we are all excited to go.!!!!!

Is anyone from Disneyland going to the park on February 1st? Please let me know...

So I went shopping today and bought some nice shoes for the trip and a new ipod for the trip(and because I use mine so much)

my cruises are really getting so close I can't wait:thumbsup2

Yay! New shoes are always great! Which reminds me, I still gotta get some for formal night...

Yours and Dave's cruise is even closer! So exciting! :cool1:

I need some stuff too, normal shoes, sneakers, a hat, maybe some tops, and I would like a cute sarong for the pool.

I should go shopping this weekend.

DH surprised me today at lunch, he sent flowers to the office, and when he came to pick me up he handed me a bag with Godiva chocolates, cute knick knacks, etc, then he pulled a jewerly box and handed it to me. I was confused, but opened it, inside there was a squeaky duck in the shape of a cat. :rotfl2:

Then he said "I am kidding, here is the real one" and asked if I would renew vows with him, it was an engagement ring, he had never gotten me one before :flower3:

Your DH needs to have a meeting with all the rest of the DH's! How romantic!!! :lovestruc How long have you guys been married? Congratulations!!

That is such a nice surprise. Way better than going shopping this weekend!

I'm headed to the craft store tonight to get stuff for the elementary school International Night. It happens to be right next to Filene's Basement, where I'm hoping they have some decent (not terribly expensive!) swimsuits - I need one more... one that I got from Lands End just won't work.

And Mark and I decided to give DD an iPod shuffle before the trip. Long story - but in addition to the ones we currently use (Mark, me and DS), we have two Nanos (the "old" ones) one brand new and one slightly used; and a brand new shuffle. We're going to load it with HSM and other Disney songs for her first and surprise her with it. She's been asking for it for so long, so she'll be so surprised.

Ciao for now... Johnna:wave2:

Yup, he wanted to wait until we were on the ship, but he decided to surprise me today anyway :)

We have been married 9 years. Our original wedding was a total disaster (it was so bad I don't even keep pictures of it) and my DH was not romantic at all about it, so now he decided he wants to do it right and has asked me if I want to re-new vows at Disney World. :flower3:

Good luck with the crafting!
I need to do research about scrap books for work so I'll be hitting the craft store soon as well.

Awwwww! That gave me goosebumps! Sounds like you are very lucky to have such a romantic husband. I agree with Johnna. Maybe he should give our husbands some lessons!
