February 28, 2009 Bushwacker Banditos Magical Cruise

Hi and :welcome: I did not catch your name, sorry. I just want to say, do not worry, I am from the states and have no clue when it comes to sports. :sad2: This is one reason I do not chime in much anymore. So know you are not alone. I am not from Canada but is Minnesota close enough....:thumbsup2 :lmao: Your little princess: is very close to Johnna's little girl, they can get to be buds. I think you will be so impressed with DCL and the kids over Princess. I guess you Canadians are getting such an awesome exchange rate right now because our US dollar sucks right now. I look fwd to getting to know you.
Lady Story, I sure hope you are enjoying your weekend away. Be sure to show us pictures.

Hi & thanks for the welcome! I had forgotten about this board and have just come back to it!!

A small sports note in keeping with this thread.... my team the Sask Roughriders are in 1st place in the CFL!! Go Riders Go!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

We are so getting excited to be on this trip, we are having a nice summer up here in Alberta, we have done quite a bit of camping this year.

I see you mention that our dollar is strong... well it actually is falling...UGH!! I was holding off paying our final payment hoping it would go above par again.. and it is now sitting at about 93 cents to the US Dollar... silly me... the charity is paying for the cruise... why did i wait??:sad2:

I have cousins down in MN , hhmm I think the place is called Stanchfield?? They are 2nd cousins to my Dad, so I don't know them well. But I have been to the MOA!! HHmm lets see about 1999 or so? I am sure it has changed tons since then! But I would love to go again!!

So thanks again for the welcome, we are off camping this weekend to the Rockies... at an RV park just under the mountain where some of the '88 olympics were held. It is about a hour and 15 minutes out there from our place.

Looking forward to getting to know you all better, once summer is over and we are in the house a little more!!

6 months 2 weeks and 2 days!!!

Wanda

Hello to a fellow Canadian!

This is our family's 2nd Disney cruise, we did the Western cruise in Feb '08. Our son will be almost 6 at time of sailing, our daughter will be 8. Where exactly are you from (Calgary area)? We are from Edmonton. We have just returned from 2 exhausting, but very fun, weeks of camping in the Kootenay Mountains. While we were away, we picked up a puppy (this had all been pre-arranged with the breeder, I'm not that spontaneous!), so for the second week of our vacation I was up 3 times a night letting the dog out, cleaning up "accidents", and trying to "walk" him around the campground. However, he is very sweet and very cute, so it made it all worthwhile. But--it's good to be home!

I also know nothing about sports, so don't (or simply can't :confused3 ) participate in those conversations. Now, the parts of the conversations about drinking, well I can relate to that.....

Carolyn

Hey Carolyn!
We are campers too as you will see from the posts above!

What breed of puppy did you all get??

We are in Airdrie, just 10 miles north of Calgary on Hwy2...

We have cruised before too, just not with a kid in tow... I am hoping that she will be brave enough to enjoy the kids clubs so we can explore some of the adult areas of the ship!!
I am not looking forward to the 2 hour suppers, even though we are doing early dining... DD is not the best eater.. and I fear that we will be eating in buffet...:sad2: ... I wonder what our fellow diners would think if we brought her portable DVD to the dining room table?? Any thougts on that?? It would keep her there and entertained so that we could enjoy supper. There is no way she would wear earphones/plugs though. SIGH...yep I see the buffet in my future! Oh well we will try!!!

So thanks for the welcome, it is nice to know that there will be some other Albertans on the cruise with us!!

Wanda

ps. we booked our air already, what outrageous prices!! We went Westjet down for the direct flight on the 26th ( thurs ) and are coming back to Calgary on United via Denver on the 7th. total airfare per person?? GULP ...$1134.19!!! OUCH!!!

I collect the DCL glasses too! :rotfl: I have a pink one and a blue one but I could always use more!

Donna

Donna- You do not have a clear one???? We have to change that. Oh, what the heck, don't you need a pair of them all???:lmao: :lmao: I think we can help you with that collection. I will start out with the first drink of the day "The Bon Voyage.... Then WHo can say no to a Bahama MaMa? (Just in the spirit of Mama Mia) and BJ pours those Bushwackers down my throat." I guess we need a duffle just for theglass collection.:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi Wanda - nice to "meet" somebody so close to home! Are you going to Kananaskis this weekend? We haven't camped there for years, but it is beautiful. I am going camping this weekend as well. Every year the girls I grew up with and all of our kids go camping without the "men". Our husbands drive us to our destination, set us up, then leave us there for the week. So this trip will be a little closer to home than the last one.

Our puppy is a soft-coated wheaten terrier - he is adorable! He is now 9 1/2 weeks old, and sleeping through the night is still somewhat hit and miss.

My son was almost 5 on our last cruise and he loved the kids clubs, much more than my 7 year-old daughter did. As far as dining goes, we had early seating on our last cruise, and will have it again on the upcoming cruise. It was really no problem for either of my kids. There were times that they were a bit tired, but our servers were great at keeping them entertained, as well as speeding up service for us. I don't think we ever sat in the dining room for 2 hours (and if we did none of us really noticed). Now, as far as the portable DVD player goes - I have no problem with that. However, I have read some very heated debates on these boards about the use of them in the dining rooms. I don't really know how to search the boards, but try that & you will get a good sense of what others think.

Have a great weekend camping!

OH, I LOVE those Bon Voyage drinks!!!!! Such a great way to start the cruise along with the music and all the Disney characters.

You know, I don't have a clear one. Guess I'll start adding to my collection with that one. And haven't I seen a yellow one and a green one too? What a great idea to get a pair of each. :dance3: Think they'll have a different color for each day??? :confused3

I think this is going to be a SUPER FUN cruise! :goodvibes

We are pirating a wireless connection from a neighbor that we hope won't figure it out!!!! It's very quiet here and peaceful. Today we're headed for the beach since it rained yesterday and we didn't get any beach time. Instead we went bowling, and when it stopped raining, putt putt golfing. Have some great pix of both I'll share.

Mark would be quite disappointed that I'm on here, since we're supposed to be unplugged. Although, he is updating his blog... So I'd better get off before he comes back from his morning stroll to the beach with DD.

Will post a few pix when we get back and I'll catch up with all these posts, and will surely have something to say about the drinking ones; and update the spreadsheet.

In the meantime, have a great week!!! Johnna

We used to live in Cool Pool!!! DH is retired CAF, retired in 2005 as a Sgt from 441 Sqd.

I must know him then, I've been in Cold Lake since 1993 and was in 441 Sqn from 1993 until 2001. I've been instructing at 10FTTS (tech school) since then. Just retired in Feb and am now doing the same job as a civilian.

Walt was right... it IS a small world after all! :goodvibes

Hello again fellow cruisers!

I have a question for everyone about passports.

My family and I haven't gotten our passports yet and I've had quite a few people tell me that I should've gotten them a long time ago cause it takes 3 MONTHS or longer to get them!
That scared the crap outta me cause I know I need them by the time our final cruise payment is due on December 5th. :scared: I'm a little stressed now!

How long did it take for you guys to get yours??

I'm definitely gonna spend the money to get them! I think it's worth it!
My hubby and I had to renew our licenses cause his expired last month and mine is gonna expire at the end of this month. So we gotta wait till he gets his in the mail before we can get our passports.
I REALLY REALLY hope it doesn't take as long as everyone is telling me!
If it does take that long, we'll just have to expedite them!

My DS applied for his the end of May and got it a week later. His fiancee applied the day before he did and got hers a few days after he got his but still within two weeks.

DH and I still need to get ours which we plan to do within the next month.

Donna

I just would not wait till the last min. Also if you get them in Sep. I really do not think an expdite is needed. That is just me. Also, I have to throw this out to all the Yank/Sox fans. Go RAYS!!!!

A couple of weeks is better than 3 months.
I'm relieved now! My cousin and her boyfriend are the ones that told me it took that long to get them. Next time I see them, they're both getting a swift kick in the behind for freakin' me out!

I'll probably have get them next month also.
My hubby didn't get his license renewed this week cause he said when he got to the DMV the line outside looked like a line at Disneyland.

I agree (not with the Rays part ;) ) but with the, getting my passports in September part. I definitely do not want to wait till the last minute to get my passports! It's the last thing I need to get done and them I'm good to go for the trip! :woohoo:

anyone been seeing any of the USA men's basketball games? I have and I've been watching and get excited because I can never stand offseason, :lmao:

DH and I had to go to Jefferson City, MO for business this morning and we decided to just go ahead and apply for our passports. The clerk told us that they must tell people it could take 4 weeks but that most people have told them they get their passports sooner.

DM Marla, I haven't been watching the basketball that much but we sure have been enjoying the swimming events. Our DD swam on a competitive swim team from the time she was 6 years old until she was 17. I sure hope Michael Phelps gets his 8 gold medals.

I've been watch the swimming events too!
I went out to dinner with my family last night for my cousin's birthday and we started talking about Michael Phelps and think it's crazy that he's already got 5 gold medals!

Woo Hoo! Phelps got his 8th gold medal by only 1/100th of a second. Gives a whole new meaning to "too close to call!"
