Sorry I have been absent, all! I have been working part time as an umpire and although it is summer, our Emem has been busy!

I have been getting ready to put together a FE list. Who is in??? :cool1:

Please REPLY to this if you are interested in the FE. I will private message you for an email address that I can send the list to. Please fill it out and then I will compile the list and send it out. Thanks!

Just checking in!! Hope everyone is having a great summer. Kiddos go back to school 8/24 can't believe it! Summer has flown by which means our cruise is getting closer only 6 and 1/2 more months:banana:

Enjoy whats left of summer - Karen

Yes, school will be here soon, and down goes my DIS time! :guilty: I will soon be back to making PB & J on a daily basis for picky DS and getting him on the bus during my AM reads.

I've got almost all the school shopping done. Just have to label and pack everything. Open house is in 2 weeks, and school starts here the following Monday.

Hi all -

We've booked this cruise as an extended family trip. My family (DW, DD-14, DS-11, DD-8, all ages as of cruise date) were on the Magic 2 years ago for a Castaway Cay Double Dip. This time DW's parents and brother's family (including 2 y.o. son) will be sailing with us.

Count us in for Fish Extender fun.

Our kids are all home-schooled, so we start the school year when I'm good and ready. Right now I'm neither.

Though we have only a single experience with Disney Cruises, DW and I did sail on Celebrity last year for our 15th anniversary. We may not have all the answers, but I'd be happy to field any questions from 1st timers.

Best tip I learned from the DisBoards for our last sailing: bring a shoe caddy that hangs over the door. Hang it over the back of the bathroom door and everytime you get into the stateroom dump your Key to the World, sunglasses, etc. into a pocket. Pens, mini-flashlight, watch, all kinds of little things can be stored there, and you can lay hands on them quickly every time, without searching all the drawers and desktop and floor.

Second best tip: Order chocolate chip cookies and milk from room service at least once per day.

Third best tip: Prices at the snack bar outside the theater for the shows each evening are comparable to movie theaters. Snacks at Pluto's, Topsider's, etc. are free. Head to deck 9 for some drinks and snacks before going to the show and bring them in with you.

This is probably several posts worth of stuff. I'll leave some for the next time.

Awesome tips Papa Moose! Welcome to the group!

I've bought shoe holders for me and the parents. I'm starting a cruise box, and plan to give it to them for Christmas with all the "goodies" i'm starting to get.

Welcome to our Group! Looks like we will be adding more and more to our FE!

So sorry I have been absent, although I have started an official list for our FE!

I am attending a conference at the Swan and Dolphin in November and I am taking the girls with me!:thumbsup2 The conference is the 9-11th so we were going to go Nov 8-15th. WELL, then came FREE DINING! So, we have been reworking our trip to take advantage of that so it has taken a lot of phone calls. Then, we have been online and on the phone trying to make reservations. Not a lot left!! No Ohana's :headache:

I am excited that we are going, but it is taking a lot of planning with table services!!

Any-who! The cruise will be AWESOME! Looks like we have some great tips already! I really need to start looking at excursions! YIKES :scared1: it is coming up FAST!

Have a great night!
emmysdidi and cyndirella!

Hey all-this will be our first cruise ever and I am so excited. I love this forum-it's fantastic! We still need to book-next week hopefully but I am geared up to go. I will keep reading and asking lots of questions (so bear with me)! It is great to meet everyone before we actually cruise! Will be travelling with my husband and 2 kids-10 and 3!

OK here comes the big question! What is FE, what do you do and how do I sign up? I think it has to do with little gifts but not 100% sure.

Thanks!:love::love:

Jen -

Welcome aboard.

Here's my understanding of the abbreviations:

FE - Fish Extenders: In the hallways of the ship, next to the door to each stateroom, there is a brass clip in the shape of a fish. The crew uses these clips to leave messages for the passengers in that cabin: reminders for Palo reservations, invitations to gatherings, etc. A Fish Extender is an item that hangs off of these fish clips to provide more room for drop-offs. The majority have several pockets and are of certain dimensions to fit in the space next to the door. Some are very elaborately decorated to add a personal touch to the stateroom (and also to make it easier to find your room when you are walking down the hall and every door looks the same). On our last cruise, we used a simple canvass bag with Disney characters drawn on it.

You are right on the money with your understanding of the use for these extenders. Everyone on this forum can sign up to be included in a small gift exchange, and whoever wants in will be provided with the stateroom numbers of all the other participants. Then, sometime during the cruise, you can go around to all of the staterooms and leave little gifts: bubbles, pens, magnets. Some gifts are very creative and obviously involve a lot of time to prepare. Some are Disney themed pens from the dollar store. The only restriction is that they have to fit into the fish extender. The real treat is not the expense of the gifts, but the anticipation that each time you return to your stateroom there might be a little surprise waiting for you! The kids absolutely love it, and the adults get into it, too.

As for DH, DS, DD, the H, S, D, etc. stand for Husband, Son, Daughter. The initial D is typically interpreted as either Dear or Darling. However, depending on the context, some have surmised that there may be alternate translations, some of which are not printable in this family forum.

Here is the lineup of our crew for this cruise:
Me, DW, DD-14, DS-11, DD-8
MIL, FIL, BIL, SIL, DN-2
(Mother and Father in Law, Brother and Sister in Law, Nephew)
numbers are ages as of the sailing date

We will stuff everyone into 4 staterooms.

Hope these help. Keep those questions coming. I love to share what I have learned, it make me feel that the time and money spent on these trips is spread out over a wider sphere.
