I really don't want to change out of my shorts every night...
for dinning rooms require slacks & dress shirt... i agreed to 1 night in there.

I am on vacation, I want to dress in my relaxed attire... where's the night Buffet ?

We have never "dressed up" for dinner other than on the formal night. You should at least go to each restaurant once! They are wonderful. The buffet is okay.

Question about Paradise Beach--someone said they went about a year ago and were kind of surprised to see women sunbathing topless. Is that the norm there? Just curious. Not something my kids are used to seeing. LOL!

Our docs were ready this past Saturday. We are supposed to look at them tonight.

I am trying to cut around the Mickey paint swatch and then I'm going to put my DIS name on there. I'll probably wear it on Fri. night at the hotel and when we embark and then of course at the DIS meet!!

I HATE dressing up also! For my DH to put on a pair of Dockers that is dressing up for us! But we want to go to each dining room at least once!! Then its the Buffet or room service for us!

Just curious, what did you wear? Everyone's idea of "dressing up" is so different. For us Dockers are definitely dressed up for dinner. We wear jeans or shorts everywhere, luckily in Florida that's pretty much the norm.

Do you see people in the dining rooms in jeans? Of course we'd never go in in T-shirts but jeans and a polo shirt for the guys and a nice top for women is pretty much as fancy as we get.

I equate my question to California Grill I suppose...they print all over the place, business casual attire just as they say resort casual for the ship, but the last time we ate there there were TONS of people in jeans, some in shorts and 1 guy who I swear showed up right from a construction job in cut off jeans and a tshirt.

So, we will bring enough clothes-wise to try each rest once, but after that I'm not so sure how much we'll be wanting to get dressed for dinner.

Are jeans acceptable on pirate night in the dining rooms? As part of your "costume"?

I'm pretty sure I read on a post somewhere that people do wear jeans to dinner. Just no shorts!! I wish I knew why they say no shorts?? I dont get that one!! We plan on wearing jeans. I know that we'll probably be in the minority...but I dont care. My DH is bringing Dockers for semi-formal night. We have ressies for Palo but are thinking of canceling it cuz we made the ressies on formal night and I'm afraid that there will be people REALLY dressed up in there that night!! (tuxes and gowns)

Well Mr508MA...I bet you and Rick will really get along!! You guys are both hilarious!!

Oh yea.....I am SOOOOOO glad that there are other people on this board that hate to dress up as much as we do!! I was really worried about that and was afraid that we were going to be the only ones!! Its funny how little things like that can just make my day!!

I agree, it makes me happy to know we're not the only ones too - I LIKE JEANS! What's the big deal? They really shouldn't say to dress resort casual either. I live in Orlando, I spend A LOT of time at WDW, for me resort casual is definitely SHORTS! And we're in the middle of the Caribbean - I'd think nice shorts and collared shirts for the men are more than appropriate for a nice dinner. I think we can all agree no cut offs, no tank tops, no swimwear, but otherwise, I vote for comfort! Plus it being Disney and aimed at families with kids you'd think the true definition of casual would come in to play. But I also understand that people who cruise like to dress up and that's part of the experience...I just don't think they should judge those who don't want to like I've seen in some other posts ("And there were even people in JEANS in the dining rooms?!?!") Oh the horror.

K, I think I've gotten it all out of my system now, back to my point, I'm glad we're not the only ones too! LOL!

I'll wear dress shorts to dinner & a nice shirt... got to remember, I am from the northeast & left cold climate up there, I do NOT wear long pants over 65*, unless i am working & getting paid for it.... Then to pay to come on a cruise & they want me to wear long pants ?? NOT
I know some folks like dressing up, or have nice stuff for work. I am a Laborer... when i kick off my shoes, I usually drop my pants too [slip on some shorts] and i am relaxed... add a umbrella drink & a pool & i am in heaven..
Thats why me & cruises go so well together...
I don't want to lug a suitcase full of clothes on vacation, (considering my suitcase will be half full of electronics [laptop, cameras, pocket pc, etc)]
I am not doing Palo, I can here with Kids, I enjoy the time with my Kids, I want to spend all i can with them, especially in these new areas of the world.
No Tux here....

I am an easy going guy & gets along with everyone... I may be a little shy til you know me & am more talkative online than in person.

If you meet me, then see me at the pool & i don't answer you, it's cause "I CAN'T HEAR"... I wear 2 hearing aides & am about 80-90% deaf at 47

Hey, I don't need to practice my topless sunbathing, We have our own private tanning salon, so I have zero tan lines here. Just don't want hubby to get too distracted. He might drown otherwise!

Okay, here's something I just heard from a guy, Tom, who works at Paradise Beach and is like a manager type person: (supposedly no nude tanning) but now in leiu of an entrance fee, they would like each person to spend $10 minimum on food and beverages. That might take us a while as we don't drink alcoholic beverages. LOL! Eep.

Jeeze, go out of the office for 1/2 a day and the board fills up . . .

Let's see if I can fill in any gaps . . .

1. Cozumel and tendering - Yes we will have to tender as the piers are still not able to handle docking. I've read that we either tender to the ferry pier in downtown (old tender pier) or tender to the pier that DCL used to dock at (near C&C and Senior Frogs). From what I've read, it will be quite a while before the piers are repaired for docking again.

2. Dressing up for dinner - Looks like we will be in the minority here (not that it's a bad thing). We actually enjoy dressing up for dinner. One of the reasons we like cruising. We almost never dress up around home (never have a reason) so it's fun for us to dress the part on the ship. I plan on wearing Dockers and Polo shirts for the casual nights. For the formal, semi-formal, and Palo, I will be in a suit and tie. DW is going to be in dresses for formal, semi-formal and Palo. I think we'll get the boys dressed for one of the formal nights in shirts and ties. I know it's a very hot topic on these boards (and cruisecritic as well). I say, dress how you feel comfortable. I'm not going to let someone's dress code impact on how I enjoy my dinner.

3. Jeans for dinner - Yes DCL now allows you to wear jeans on casual nights in the dining rooms. No shorts though as they are trying to retain some of the tradition around the "dinner on-board experience."

4. Mickey swatches - These are actually paint swatches for the Disney brand paint at Home Depot. They are shaped like Mickey Mouse. The "official" colour for the DIS is Alien Green. Some folks just pin the swatches to their shirts for the DIS meets. Others really go to town and customize them. I think DW has incorporated the color into a tie-dyed sweatshirt she made for the cruise.

I think I got the high points here. Please let me know if there are still open questions out there. Haven't talked with DW all afternoon, so no word on our docs yet. If not, prepare for another song . . . .

Once i sit down at a tableclothed table, you'll never know if i have shorts on.
Maybe I should wear a skirt ?? I have some scottish in me, I'll get that plaid red one... I'll just have to remember to cross my legs when i sit. [or do my legs just look that bad?]
Maybe if we gather about 30 of us outside the dining room in shorts & protest :kidding: or we can get Rick to do a distraction & we can run to our table with shorts...

Our daughters are 8 and 12 years old. Does anyone have a 12-yr-old daughter going that will want to hang out in the club with Molly? If so, maybe they can e-mail before the trip a little. That would be fun. Molly is very easygoing and makes friends easily, but it would be fun for her to meet someone before too. Abby, our 8-yr-old, is a bit on the shy side, but she absolutely loves the kid's club on the ship.
