February 23, 2008 Magic Western

Don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure we are in stateroom 8032. It has been so long since I looked at the paperwork but I am almost positive that is it.

I will have to look into the submarine. She will be 2 at the time of the cruise so will just have to see what her attention span is for things like that as we get closer. Right now she doesn't really like to sit for too long unless Mommy is reading her a book:lmao:

We are so looking forward to being back on board and just relaxing that honestly if we hardly got off the ship that would be fine with us. We are going to be doing lots of walking the week after at WDW so might want to build up some energy reserves:laughing:

Hello all,
I thanks for all the info. You were asking about great excursions for a toddler. My favorite place in all the world is a place called Rum Point. It's in Grand Cayman. We usually rent a car from Avis. Then we drive around the island to Rum Point and spend the day. It is wonderful!!! Good Food and beautiful surroundings. Go to webshots.com and type in Rum Point and look at the pictures. We have a full sized SUV reserved already. I got to call down to GC..I about died. I tried to book online, but it said everything was sold out. I knew that was wrong, so I called. It costs about $135 for the day. The other cars are much cheaper. You can get a compact car for about $40. In Cozumel you can rent a car or take a taxi to Chakanaab park. It's a great place and it only costs $12 bucks to get in. It is very close to the pier. If I think of anything else I will let you know.

Hi Micki! :wave2: What a great idea! We were just talking about excursions last nite! For us its kind of difficult becuz my DD is 17 and my youngest DS is 5. So sometimes agreeing on things gets kind of hard! And going thru Disney gets costly! Can I ask if you have the number for Avis? They drive opposite of us dont they? Was that hard to get used to? We were also considering renting a day room at the Westin Regina in GC. TIA!!

Hi Holli,
Here is the number (1) 345-949-2468. You have to drive on the opposite side of the road, but it wasn't to bad for my husband. You just kind of follow the other cars and make sure you start on the correct side of the road when you turn. You are more than welcome to follow us if you want to. We usually stop by the grocery store to get a few snacks for the road, then we take off to Rum Point. They don't allow outside food at Rum Point, but they don't charge you anything to use their beach. They have nice showers and bathrooms. It's the best. It costs about $10 for a good burger and fries. The snorkeling isn't much at all there, but the beach and the atmoshere more than makes up for it. Another thing you can do in GC is snorkel right off the main strip. If you have your own snorkel gear that is always the best, if not you can rent some. If you walk off the pier and make a left and walk about a block or 2, you will come to a dive shop. They don't charge you a dime to use thier showers or to use their ladder to get in the water. They rent lockers, sell fish food, and sodas. Out about 100 feet or so is a ship wreck that the cruise ships try to make $30 per person. You can do it for free. It is such a scam. We did it the first time and I was really pissed. Make sure you do not put the fish food in your swim trunk pockets after you open it. You will be swarmed by fish at your crotch. :scared1:
I hope this helped. Take Care

Thanks Micki!! I went to webshots like you suggested! Rum Point looks heavenly!! I guess we have some decisions to make! Thank you for the number. I'm going to call the Westin Regina about the day room too. They are a part of 7 mile beach. I am not a water person so snorkeling is out for me. I tried it last year on Castaway Cay and it is not for me.:scared: I do love realxing on the beach and poolside with a nice umbrella drink. :thumbsup2And do venture in the water with the kids. I'll let you know what we decide!! Thank you again for all the info!!!

Oh....I sure hope that you didnt speak from experience about putting the fish food in your swim trunk pockets! I was laughing out loud picturing that one!!! :lmao:

Hi Holli,
Did you not like snorkling because you kept getting water in your mouth? There is a snorkle that closes up before the water gets in your snorkle. I went out and bought one. I did fairly well with a regular snorkel, but I still hated the occasional wave that gave me a mouthful of yucky salt water. It has a bulb on the end that closes up when water starts to rise.

No I wish it was something as simple as that! I just really do not care for the water. I am not a good swimmer either. I had talked with friends of ours who said I must try snorkeling and that I had nothing to worry about. It didnt matter if you were a good swimmer or not..... Well getting the fins on and then trying to walk with them on was an adventure in itself!!! I am very large chested so the life preserver basically floated in my face! :rotfl: It just was not a very good experience! My daughter still laughs when we talk about it!!

Hi Holli,

I will sit on the beach with you! I had a run-in with a fish when I was 7 years old and wearing goggles in a lake. It scared me so much I just can't bring myself to try snorkeling - I have comfortably resigned myself to the fact that I am missing out on something beautiful, but I just know I would not enjoy it! No Stingray City for this girl, either, as a result.

I just caught up with the recent posts! Nice to see more people joining in! Welcome!

We should start an official post listing all of the people that have joined the thread, with their first names, ages, Deck and Cat No etc. I will post separately, and if people want to send me information, I will edit the post as new people join!

If you are finding this thread, post a reply to the Thread and I will EDIT this post with your info

Hi Elizabeth!! Heres my info!!

hjensen-Holli (44) (it gets harder & harder to write my age down!)
DH Mark (47)
DD Rachel (17)
DS Jacob (6)

My son who will be 20 does not want to go. Thinks he's too old for Disney and I cant change his mind! :sad2: DD might bring a friend or her cousin. We're not sure yet. We are in a Cat. 3 Deck 8 SR 8534

I'm glad I'll have someone sitting by me on the beach! :beach: I sometimes feel like such an outsider for not liking the water!

Hi Holli,

Maybe you could start a new thread on the main board, or an alternate thread for 20-somethings under the Cruise Meets threads, and see if the rest of the DIS can convince him that there really is something for 20-year-olds to do!

I did tell him that I'm sure we would be able to find some "kids" his age before we went but for right now it seems like there is no changing his mind. I bet if he was a girl it would probably be a different story. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope that he changes his mind!

Elizabeth,

Thanks so much for doing this. My info for you to edit is:

DW (Janelle) 36
DD (Elizabeth) 16 months
yensidfan (Michael) 36

Welcome!! I haven't been up here much lately, but as the cruise date nears I will be up here all the time. Cruisecritic.com is another great website. Have you been to the Western Caribbean before? Have you cruised on Disney before? This will be our first Disney cruise. We have been to the W. Caribbean several times and know of some pretty cool places. Let me know if you need any info. Take Care

We have not done a 7-night cruise before. This will be our first time. We have done some 4-night cruises on Disney. Loved them all. Any info would be much appreciated. Have never done a western caribbean.

Hi Tracey, :wave2:

So glad you found the thread! I have added your family to the cruise listing!

Our youngest daughter Riley is the same age as your eldest - perhaps closer to the cruise we can set up a kids' cruise meet thread and they can "chat" with our help online! It would be great for them to have a friend to look forward to meeting even before the cruise starts!

I did a Trip Report of our first cruise last February on the DIS - it's online if you are interested!!!!

Talk to you soon!

Elizabeth
