February 2014

we're in too - kind of last minute, DH's company booked him a room at the Contemporary because all of Orlando is booked up for the conference he's attending in Orlando. So that means - tagging along for free! It will be mini DS first visit and big DS's second visit that will FEEL like his first because he was 8mo at his first visit! Also bringing along my sister (22, former CM) to play nanny/tour guide. Can't wait! Also bonus to be staying at CR! Expecting a Garden Wing room (won't know until checkin) but free rooms, we'll take them!

Getting to stay at the Contemporary and for free! You can't top that!

Sounds like it will be lots of fun for you and your family. Having your sister along will be fun for you- a great companion and someone with the inside scoop on WDW.

What days will you be there?

4 days to go and its snowing here again!!! Finally going to start packing tonight :cool1: Forecast in Florida looks great - so long as the next impending snowstorm doesn't keep us from the airport we'll be in warm and sunny skies very soon!!

It sounds like most of us going in February have some sort of snowy weather that we will be leaving! Here comes the sun! :beach:

I am starting to pack too. I got the luggage out, checked the sizes for the airline and also got out my sunscreen.

I don't want to forget the sunscreen and it looks like I might actually get to use it! Woo Hoo!:cool1:

We fly out on Tuesday and there's a 70 percent chance of snow that day. I am extremely nervous. We have insurance for everything, but my wife is pregnant and won't be able to fly after this month. So, we probably won't even attempt another trip until April 2015.

I am so stressed out and, at this point, not the least bit excited... :(

Could your drive? Not sure how far Iowa is from Disney.

I know another Feb Diser her flight couple days ago got cancelled because of snow and they rented a one way rental car and drove that night before snow started straight thru. They made it to Disney an hour before their flight was even scheduled to arrive. They dropped off their rental car at the airport and hopped on ME.

Just wanted to toss that out there :goodvibes

We considered driving yesterday. It's 20+ hours, but broken up over a couple days, it's doable.

The problem is we have non-refundable plane tickets. I called Travelocity yesterday to see what would happen if I cancelled and they said I would have to use the tickets for the same people within one year and would be charged a $240 re-issue fee per ticket, plus any difference in cost. So, assuming the tickets cost the same, it'd be another $1,000.

That, plus the cost of gas ($500 round trip), lodging (at least two nights in hotels), food and missing extra days of work, just made driving too cost prohibitive.

At this point, all we can do is show up at the airport Tuesday morning and hope for the best.

:confused3

Praying you will be able to go and arrive safely.

I used to live in Muscatine, Iowa. It was a great community, the people are wonderful,. I lived there 8 years but that was seventeen years ago. I have been back once to visit,

Thank you.

I've lived in Iowa for 30 years and grew up not far from Muscatine (Durant, a speck on the map). This is one of the worst winters I can remember. I remember when I booked this trip that I was nervous about the weather in Florida in February, it never occurred to me that I should worry about the weather up here.

Md is supposed to get snow tonight/tomorrow. My flight leaves at 6:50 am and I am TERRIFIED.

Yes, another poster here scheduled to leave PHL tomorrow, and now we are looking at 3-6 or 4-8 in of snow. We are heading to hotel near the airport tonight to save ourselves a yucky commute tomorrow morning in a snowy rush hour.

I hope that if we have delays we can hang out in our hotel longer vs. the airport waiting with 3 kids, but alas, that never seems to happen.

I saw some flights out of the midwest they have waived change fees for and you can try to move your flight earlier or later, but when DH called they were not doing that for our area yet. Thought we'd call just in case.

Oh man, That totally sucks.

Fingers crossed you manage to get out tomorrow :goodvibes

Our 70 percent chance of snow is now a 80 percent chance of light snow. I'm sure the forecast will change again in the next 36 hours, but I'm going to take this as a positive sign.

Thanks for the good vibes.

Nervously watching the forecast as well. We are scheduled to fly out of Detroit - early morning Wednesday and the next snow is coming in Tuesday night - Wednesday morning. Secretly hoping it tracks farther south and stays in Indiana/Ohio - but don't tell my parents and siblings that live in Indiana that I said that! Here's hoping all of us Michiganders and others can beat this winter weather and safely arrive to our happy place on schedule!! :thumbsup2

That is positive news! Hopefully it will just be a light snow.

:) As you said, let us hope we all are able to get out of our hometowns and safely to Disney and back without to much problems.

For those of you traveling the same time as me, Feb 9-16, I thought I would post a couple of photos. So, you can say hi if you see me. Of course, this photo was taken on our last trip to WDW in 2009. My DD is now as tall as me!

I had pictures in my last trip report but someone says the links are no longer working to see them. I hope this one works.

In this photo, I look like I am wearing Minnie Bridal ears but it must have been the person seated behind me. I do plan to pick out some Minnie ears along with my DD on our first day there to wear around the parks that week. I didn't get any last time for myself and I decided I would this time. My DD will be getting some too.

Glad you posted the pics mdsouth! I'll be looking for you at POFQ in 7 days - 6 days for me pixiedust:

All you guys in the midwest talking about your snow, we've been good here for about 2 weeks and now we're getting a bunch Tues. into Wed!! I'm fine with that as long as Saturday stays clear! Good luck to all of you travelling during the week :goodvibes

100 percent chance of snow now for Moline on Tuesday. 2-4 inches predicted.

My only hope is that it doesn't get bad until 7 am. By then, we'll be in the air.

I hope that you are safely and happily settled at WDW now!

The weather forecast not looking good and newcasters were making us too nervous.

We are cancelling our flight wed and will just get a credit with southwest.

We have decided to drive instead. We will be leaving tomorrow around 10am.

We have not driven to FLA since 2000, so little nervous.

Safe travels to everyone and hope everyone makes it to Disney safely :goodvibes
