February 2014 Code watch

In regards to the S/P/D and the dining plan, how is the math different for values compared to Mods? If you're staying in a Mod, do you pay the kids price for the regular dining plan? Trying to figure what the price difference would be between the two options...wondering how much the dining plan upgrade savings from staying at Mod instead of value would offset some of the additional room expense? So I guess an easier way to ask is how much is the regular dining plan per person with S/P/D at a Value compared with how much it is at a Moderate for the regular dining? Thanks so much in advance!!!! ☺

We stayed at POR last time and loved it but we wanted to stay at POFQ this time. If I can get through to a CM and POFQ isn't available DH and I have agreed that we don't have a problem switching to POR but I am wondering if it would be easier to go ahead and switch now? Do we have a better chance at snagging a deal if we are already currently staying at that resort opposed to switching? Should I add the dining plan now or wait? Either way we are going to go ahead with the dining plan. Just looking for some advice if anyone has any to spare! Thanks!

With any special offer, you gain nothing by having an existing reservation -- it all depends on what "new" rooms are set aside for the promotion. For example, a friend booked at POR with dining because she wanted to go no matter what, but when fall free dining was released, she switched to Coronado to be able to add free dining -- POR was not available for her dates.

On the dining, you may as well add it now if you know you're going to get it no matter what, but having it already also has no impact on any special offers.

I can answer this part - you do pay the children's price for the regular dining plan. (You also pay the kids price for the tickets too with S/P/D).

On the upgrade from quick service to regular, I am less certain on this, but I think they are doing some funny math where they are simply subtracting the kid's price from the regular dining plan price, and charging you that price per person. There were some posts (I think earlier in this thread) about it that I didn't fully understand...other than to decide that figuring out the upgrade wasn't for me. :goodvibes

Mod approx $18.88 a day for DDP.

Value QS at kids prices $15.75
Plus upgrade from adult QS to adult TS $58.66-$39.64 = $19.02
Cost of DDP while staying at a Value = approx. $34.77 per person.

Thanks for the info....I will just cross my fingers that something is available but if not....still going!!!!!!!!!!pixiedust:

Thank you so much!!!! We have always had free dining in the past and have gone in the fall. This will be our first time with any other offer. It seems like this is the second best thing to free dining. Thanks again for your help!!!!!

Edited to add...I think it would only cost us $159 extra to stay at a Mod instead of a value for the 9 night trip when I factor in the dining difference. Can that be right????

I just was reading the comments about cheer-leading competition being there when we are scheduled to be there. Not Thrilled :worried:

Any chance they will spill over to Pop?

I just found information on it and it says they are staying at One of All Star Resorts and CBR

http://uca.varsity.com/docs/ntls/14/nhscc/2014-NHSCC-Pricing.pdf

It's when we're scheduled to be there as well. We booked our dining ressies, but not our room ressies yet. I don't think many cheerleaders would be at POP (where we're staying also) but my mom brought up the point that a vacation is supposed to be relaxing and I would just worry about this until the trip. I used the search function to read past threads on the cheerleading and it seems to be mixed as to if there are any issues.

I was thinking about possibly switching the trip to the week before, at least that way I won't worry about the cheerleaders. We have pretty simple dining ressies, except we wanted to eat at Be Our Guest which we won't be able to get again...decisions, decisions. I need to decide quick!

I am not worried about them in the park . The only thing I had read was they get up early and do their routines outside the resorts. I don't want hear that early in the morning . That was my only issue . Hopefully they just stay at all stars and then I think all will be okay :)

Good luck on your decision . Maybe try and look for a BOG ADR for week before and if you find one , then you can snag it and move your week to make yourself feel better :)

Personal experience/opinion about cheerleading groups in Feb:

Last Feb my daughter and I stayed at Pop from 2/5-2/8 and it was worse than I thought it would be. There were a few BTG's, all girls and they were cheer/dancers? Anyway, it was a MADHOUSE every morning and evening (much better mid-day at the main pool when they were gone at the parks) and they kept me up half the night cheering and screaming outside. It was bad enough that I called to complain twice (and I NEVER call to complain).

It really did change the whole feel of our resort experience (we have stayed at POP two other times and loved it), but we tried to make the best of it. Going at the END of Feb for the Princess Half next year and hoping they have all cleared out b/c it wasn't pleasant.

We experienced the cheerleaders a couple of years in a row. My husband twitches at the thought of ever having to deal with them again. I will say that some of the groups were very nice and polite. Unfortunatly, most of the groups....especially the latin groups were HORRIBLE! It was my understanding that they stay at all of the values and CBR. I could be wrong though. Disney reservations was honest with me when I told them that I wanted to stay at a resort that did not host the cheerleaders.
They travel as a team.....so they will all hit areas at the sametime! The pool, food court and theme park attractions. yay!

Other than the cheering waking me up, most of them were not rude (although my daughter says a couple of them bumped/pushed her at the soda machine, so maybe they were) but the SHEER MASS of them is really the biggest problem.

Ok, concerning the cheerleaders: 3 questions. It says they cheer at the Indiana Jones show Feb 9 & 10 so it will be closed. So is the show closed the whole week or just those 2 days? As far as visiting parks goes is trying to get into HS on those days an issue because we have 2 dining reservations on the 10th. Cheerleaders- my 7 DD is a peewee cheerleader and is actually excited about all the cheer stuff going on. My question, do I need to be worried about these girls she looks up to ruining her view of them and cheerleading, and if I do see something "inappropriate" is it awful to remind these girls that they have lots if little eyes that look up to them and that they need to remember to set a good example? I want it to be a positive thing for my DD when she sees these girls but I've seen some negative posts so I am concerned. Perhaps I just worry too much.

Probably not. I guess there were a BUNCH of them smoking in the smoking area at Pop, quite often. I guess that might have a negative impact if she sees that, it surprised me b/c I don't normally think of athletes smoking. :confused3

Your daughter will be fine. They are just large groups of very excited teenaged girls. So maybe just a little harder for adults to take. There does seem to be a lack of supervision so use your Mom skills, if necessary.

Why so many comments about cheerleaders? :confused3 Maybe someone should start a new thread if that needs to be discussed.

Sorry! I look at this on my iPhone and the whole thread title doesn't show it just says Feb 2014. Someone else spoke about cheerleaders being at particular resorts and how that affected her resort/ budget making decisions. It seemed some people were discussing it so I thought it was fair game. Sometimes one aspect of a persons Disney trip effects another.

I m personally relived there wont be cheering while i am there ;)
I never think of things like that when planning.

Sorry, I had meant to post my cheerleading questions on regular Feb 2014 thread, not this one.

I was on my phone and did not realize I was on the wrong thread

I hope I didn't sound like a grump! Actually, if it weren't for these boards, I wouldn't know to watch out for scheduling things at the same time as cheerleading competitions, etc. ;)

Hi! Going to WDW 02/02-02/08. I have a package booked for 3 adults and 1 child on the DP at All Star Music, and my total is 2969.00. I was given this when I made my reservation over the phone, and when I priced it out on the web my total was 3,393.55. Does this usually happen? Do you get a better rate if you call in vs. making the reservation online? Hoping I will get the S/P/D but it looks like I am already paying a discounted rate. :confused3
