February 2013 Discount Watch

I'm keeping watch for a friend. She wants to take her family on their first Disney trip during the last week of February, around the 25th. We've never been at that time of year. Does anyone know if they typically offer free dining or a good room-only discount after President's Week is over? I know I've seen stuff like that for the first week of March. TIA

I keep thinking the same thing myself - eating out every night just takes time away from the parks during a time when they are not open that late.

Here here! Heavy duty room discount including LM rooms would make me very happy!

I have an AP for free dining doesn't help me at all. And going solo it doesn't save me much either.

Hoping for the same week. This week was offered for 2011, but not for 2012. I dont see why it wouldnt be for next yaer. There is nothign happening that week after Pres day and the crowd levels are low. My only guess as to why it wasnt offered this year, is because of all the hoopla from leap day that went on.
Keeping fingers crossed for the last week of FEb!!

Wanting to go 2/10 - 2/15 but I just had horrible flashbacks of the Brazilian tour groups and remember reading somewhere that Feb was one of the times they are around?? That and the cheerleading/dance groups?? Anyone know the dates on these things? TIA!

I was there from 2/11-2/16 2012 - I saw some cheerleaders (teen girls) at AK, but they were no problem. They were the only "tour group" I saw anywhere.

And yes, I do not want a dining plan, "free" or otherwise. Room Only for me, please. (FWIW, Room Only discounts for Feb 2012 came out around 10/5/11.)

I checked that page before I made my reservations, to make SURE those obnoxious international cheerleaders weren't gonna spoil my vacation again!! .....Okay, so they didn't really "spoil" it in Feb. '10 but sheesh who wants to hear all that LOUD annoying cheering in the lines? Ugh!

~~Oh & btw I'm another one who doesn't care about "free dining"; my son & I don't eat very much & we always have lots of healthy snacks with us (plus I always cook meals in the room) But I do hope it comes out though, for other people who could benefit from it!

Feb. 2-3 is the Dance competition
Feb. 9-10 is the Cheerleading competition

And I would imagine that they will be there a few days before and after.

Oh great, so we'll probably be running into them our entire trip! We're going Feb 2-10. Anyone ever been at the same time as the cheer/dance competitions are going on? Are there enough teams that they actually can affect a park day?

Free dining would be nice for us. We stay at Values and I am willing to pay the increase for sit down meals and have all my food paid for before arriving..

We stayed at The Contemporary last year for one night before our cruise. We were on the 1st floor and all we heard were the cheerleaders bouncing around above us until at least 3:30 in the morning!! Needless to say, I was tired going into my cruise. I called the front desk numerous times. I did not receive any compensation, nor did I ask. But it was TERRIBLE! Ask for the highest floor possible and you should be fine.

As a single, I would rather have Room Discount instead of Free Dining. Free Dining Means nothing to me because I can do better with food on my own. A 20% or more room discount can push me to book. I have a feeling if we're going historically on this. We should know the first 2013 discounts by the end of the month.

We will be headed to Disney the 7th-15th for Mardi Gras week. Booked the Thursday before Mardi Gras hoping for free dining. With my group, that's over $1000.
Also, the 13th is my dad's birthday, my birthday, DD's 9th birthday AND DD's 1st birthday!!!

Hoping for a little extra magic on our extra special Birthday Gras!

The only group worse than the cheerleaders is the Brazilians!
We've had the "pleasure" of experiencing all 3 of these groups.
The dancers arent quite as loud. And seem to have lots more chaperones.

The cheerleaders..... OMG!! Left alone they are unbearable!
I had to put up with them on a solo trip last February at CBR and I could hear them from all the way across the lake!! And they were unavoidable everywhere in the parks. They chant and scream just as badly as the Brazilians! Just hope you are able to end up in a different part of your resort and in a different park! Good luck!

So if we are going 1/31 through 2/8 and staying at POP, should we look at a different week? Are the dancers generally just at HS, or do they invade all the parks?
