February 2009 - Walt's Warriors!!

Hey all!! Happy THursday!!
AMyKAb, have a great time while your away from the Dis and us Warriors!!

I did about 25 min on the Wii yesterday. TOnight 4 miles in about 57 min and some warmup and warmdown.

Tracy

Jen, Erika gave great cold weather advice. Use that. I couldn't add anything else other than sometimes I wear a bandana around my neck just in case I want it for my head as I'm out in it.

OK, I got all set to post up my numbers and I can get to the spreadsheet but I cannot update. Did we change this?

Hello Warriors!

I'm glad everyone is getting some miles in ...more than what I can say for myself. I took a few days off and today I actually got the Wii out for an hour and did some yoga, strength and balance moves, the played tennis for a little bit.

The new few days I'll be fasting as I'm doing a 9 day clense..some people at the gym I work out at are all doing it also...group bonding sort of thing. I won't be running, probably just the Wii for the next week, umtil I start eating solids again.

Michelle :worship: ~ way to get out in the rain and get the miles in, I run on the treadmill if it even looks cold outside.

Until the next post ....

Roxy I am sorry for not being aroung for a while to know of your loss. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as well.

Trace :worship: Your AWESOME!! Thanks for stopping by the Triple D's site and being a great friend.

Warriors You are all doing such an incredible job. When I grow up, I hope to be as athletic and as encouraging as you all are. Keep on ROCKIN'!!

Hi Warriors!

Sounds like everyone is getting some good workouts in this week. I've been having a crazy week, but not too crazy to get my runs in. In fact, my fiance commented today that he's been impressed on how well I've been sticking to my schedule, despite all the craziness! It helps that most of my runs are in the 3-4 mile range right now, so they don't take that long to do. I'll be building up mileage next month, which always makes the time commitment a bit more difficult.

It's been pretty nice weather (for February in Seattle) this week, so I've been doing all my runs outside, which is great. I wish daylight savings would come faster, though, as running with the dog after dark is a pain. He's a German Shepherd and is super-protective of me when we're out in the dark. Not aggressive or anything but, for example, today every time we came to a doorway or a side-detour on the path, he would leap a foot in front of me so that he could see if anyone was there before I got to it. Oy. Shepherds.

Anyway, happy Friday Warriors!

Happy Aloha Friday everyone.

8 1/4 miles banked in 1 hour and 14 minutes.

Discussing with Guru Les (my training partner) how to run a sub 4 hour marathon. He runs under 4 hours every year.

Based on our discussion, I'll be upping my weekly miles. Currently doing about 28 1/2 a week, new goal is to be doing 40 miles. I'll see how it goes.

Yesterday was rest day for me. I had a microderm and chemical peel after work so I was not allowed to sweat for the evening. :lmao:

TGIF Warriors!!!!!!

This was my 1st "post 1/2" run. A little bit of "Screw it. I just ran 13 miles" attitude crept in this week, but it's now back down to work/fun/ eh, whatever.

Today I put in 5.75 miles worth of interval training :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: in 53:30.

I'm in "Crazy Jeff's" camp. I have to add the miles on also, in addition to doing a couple of long rides a week. Along with some pool work.

Where I will find the time I Do Not Know.

Jim very impressed you overcame the 'i just did a half' feeling. You def could have been forgiven for that! Man, fitting in more long rides and miles to what you already do?!?!? Can you run in your sleep *** that would sort all your problems :rotfl:

Marcie what a brilliant reason to have a rest day, hope it was a relaxing day

Jeff 40 miles a week is staggering, it's so inspiring when people do all they can to reach an ultimate goal. Looking forward to watching you achieve every step along the way :)

Sarah what a fantastic dog to have with you, even if he is a little protective. Better than having a dog that would rather be in bed! Well done getting your schedule done, it would have been easy not to so great work

Marcia did i read that right? a 9 day fast :scared1: definitely no running for you. Wow, i would never be able to do that, probably not even 9 hour. Would say don't push yourself too hard on WiiFit but guess you know what you're doing!

Tracy yay for your run and WiiFit time. Are you finding it weirdly addictive yet?

jen surely eating donuts is all part of building up enough energy stores for your 10k?

For me: 6 miles of speed work- 55 mins and 10 stretch mins afterwards. Wasn't overly enjoyable, lots of bits of me hurt but physio next week should iron those out hopefully. Pain means good run right :headache:

I'm in the most inspiring team ever

:stitch2: Monday Mixers w/ Team 'Ohana :stitch2:

I thought I'd let the Warriors know that Team 'Ohana is inviting their WISH family to come visit its thread on Mondays. We thought this would be a good way for people on the teams/threads to get to know other WISHers better. Plus, 'Ohana like to think we know how to throw a party and we always like new guests! The drinks are free, if virtual, and no one will tell you when you've had enough. :upsidedow

I'll post a reminder on Monday, with a loose question/discussion topic to get the conversations going. There's no need to stick to the topic, of course, as it's really your sparking, non-alcoholic but still intoxicating presence that is requested. So, if you have a little time for socializing with your cousins, please stop by 'Ohana on Monday! :goodvibes

That is about the precise reaction that I had, as well!
My reaction too Jeff. You go guy. Your running guru is amazing too.

Jim, since you are tagging with Jeff, my reaction applies to you as well.

:scared1: :worship:

Thanks for the fix on the spreadsheet I was able to add some of my info.

Bella, 2 miles is good. You keep at it. Did you sign up for the half yet? I don't see the logo in your siggie. You can do it for sure!

Yay we get to visit with Ohana on Monday. Sounds fun.

I am excited because a good friend of mine bought a treadmill yesterday and started the C25K. She wants to run the local 5k with me in April.

Does anyone know the website to those cool funky socks someone told me about on here?

Hey Warriors!!

Jim: You and Jeff need to get together and figure out how in the WORLD you guys are going to add more miles and times to your schedules. You guys might be able to come up with something.

Kate: Yes, the Wii can get addictive.

Yeah!! a meeting with the Ohana's!!

AFM I did 3.03 miles today with the usually warmup, cooldown and stretching. I volunteered for a local Half and FUll marathon at the packet pickup area of the EXPO. I thne walked around. I got a "stick" for massaging those nasty knots out and I definitely have them, I bought the new spibelt which has two pockets and the new Thor-lo socks called Experia. I have 12 miles on tap for tomorrow as part of training for the Princess Half. WIll let you all know how it goes.

Tracy

(Also don't forget Warriors - for those not using the spreadsheet to keep track of your miles and time, they will be do on the last day of the month!!)

Aloha Warriors!

Jim - All I can say is....WOW :worship: . How areyou going to find enough time in the day?

Tracy - Let me know how you like the spi-belt and new throlo's..I'm always looking for new things to use on a run.

smileyk8 - What is that old saying...No pain, No gain!?! ;)

As for me, It is actually a total of 9 day clense 3 days of slowing cutting back food each day, 5 day liquids only, and one day to readjust to solid foods. Today is day 2 of the liquids only, and I it hasn't been as hard as I thought. The herbal packet filled with lots of other stuff keeps me full, I drink a packet every 3 hours. So it's not bad. Energy level has been okay so I went on a 3 mile walk today.

Have a good Sunday! I can't wait until the mixer on Monday with Team Ohana, should be fun to meet our cousins.

Hey wonderful warriors. OK i did 13.5miles this morning- was hoping to do 14 but my leg was hurting and for 0.5mile didn't think it was worth pushing it. Stupid ITBand. If only you could go to a running shop and buy a new ITB:rotfl: BUT it took 2hr 03 mins so i cracked 2 hours for half! Admittedly it was mostly downhill but i'm going to take that anyway! Somethin tells me it might not be that easy in disney with overpasses and things. Edited to add stretch time of 10 mins.

Hello my Warrior WISH teammates!!!

Got in my 12 miles today. Again the ball of my right foot started to bother me around mile6. Just can't seem to get rid of it and happens every time. Podiatrist thinks its a pinched nerve or something and could also be a result of the joint of my big toe being out of wack?? WHatever, still don't think a full marathon is in the picture right now. As it starts to really bother me and hurt more and more I tend to start to walk different which then affects other things.

I started to take photos of my walk with my cell phone, thinking that would be a god project and try to keep my mind off of my foot. I got aobut 3 or 4 photos before I realized the battery was really low so I had to stop that pretty quickly. Used the GU chocolate outrage again and I still like it better than the cliff shots gel chocolate. It has the texture of like icing, alittle more fluff in there.

Marcia - the new socks. I liked them and they worked well. I am use to using the thorlos that are all white and have a pretty good amount of cushinging. These new ones have a medium amount of cushioning but only in the places you would need it, like the heel, ball of foot and toes. Other material is thin but good and doesn't slip. Nice that they come on colors like black, blue, yellow, orange and LIME green.

Here is a photo of them on my feet after my 12 miles (feet a bit sweaty)...
experiasocks.jpg
.
I like them and will continue to try them out.

Have a good day Warriors!!

Tracy

Kate: Wow, that is fast! And yay for hitting HM distance in your training! It's such a nice feeling!

Tracy: Man, I'm having total sock envy right now. I love my regular white Thorlos running socks - I won't do more than a 5 mile run without them! I was planning on picking up a couple extra pairs the next time I find myself in REI, but I might have to hunt out the Experia ones. Did you find that they were cushioned enough for you? The lighter weight socks would be great for running in the summer, but I'm worried about sacrificing my cushioning. As a side note, Thorlos heavy hiking socks are made of magic! I don't understand how my shoes can be soaked, the outside of the socks wet to the touch, and my feet are cozy and dry!

Just a heads up, if anyone is interested: Champion (who makes the running tees that are given out at the Disney events) is clearing out many colors of their items right now, and you can get many of their bestselling items in the old colors for 1/2 to 1/3 of their regular price on their website. I stumbled upon it yesterday and I'm going to pick up a couple tops and a couple sports bras. The prices are just too good to pass up!

And one last thing: has anyone tried the Nike+ iPod thing? Since most of my training is speed-specific right now I would love to have something that measures my pace as I run, and I really can't afford a GPS watch right now. I've seen such mixed reviews of the Nike+ iPod as far as accuracy goes, but I'm thinking it might be worth the $30 as an experiment to see if it works for me. I have an old iPod Nano (2nd generation) that I could dig out to use with it, so that isn't a problem. I also happen to have a pair of Nike+ shoes right now. This is by chance, not design, as my old model of Saucony's went out of production and I pushed replacing my shoes to the last minute and couldn't find anything else that worked without having to order in a narrow width and wait several weeks - I underpronate and have extremely narrow feet, which makes finding shoes difficult. The Nike Air running shoes happened to run small and narrow and be very cushy, so I went with them. I don't think I'd buy them again, but they're working well right now.

That was a much longer paragraph than I planned. Anyway, off to go run my slow 5 miles today. The slow days in my schedule are driving me nuts, but I actually am seeing a really definite improvement in my heart rate, as well as my knee and ankle that were threatening injury two months ago have chilled out.

As always, WAY TO GO, WARRIORS!!!!!
