FEBRUARY 2008 WDW travelers post HERE!!!

Thank you so much for that info!!

We have a big group going too. We will have "Celebrate Life" written on the backs of some of our shirts. We were going to have all matching shirts, but decided that we can use Disney shirts we have and get them embroidered or screen printed with those words.

I will remember the MK guest services info though!! That is what we are going to do-get the discount ones thru Chase and take the chance!

Wendypooh- we are going Feb 1-10. I printed up all the possible places we may eat and had DD's and DH pick out what they THINK they would eat to narrow our places and budget! That is nutty huh??!! I am right there with you! It doesn't mean we have to go there or order what we said, but it sure helped with the food budget since we are eating out more often with the DDE this next trip!

Lori

Which Restaurant at the Contemporary?? Was it Concourse Steakhouse? - we ate there in Jan. and it was really good.

If it was the Cali.Grill - never been - but would like too!!

What are your dates?? Lori and I will both be there over Mardi Gras - my dates are the 3rd - 9th, I think hers are a little bit earlier - not sure!! We can all just plan together!!! ( for the next 7 months!!):woohoo:

Yes, I meant California Grill, sorry they both started with "S" and my mind didn't separate the two. :)

We are going Feb 2-9. Keeping it a secret from DD, too. I'm going to send her an invitation in the mail from "Cinderella" two weeks before we leave.

Just want to thank all of you for your help navigating the discount maze. I have just read through your posts on AP, AAA discounts, etc. and found them very helpful. We are doing WDW at Mardi Gras also and I am glad to see that there may be some discounts out there!

Now if I can only figure out where to stay!

Hope to see you all at WDW!

I beleive, Parson family-that beads will be thrown in a parade at POFQ-you'd need to call for the time. At DL, they had a NO style band that was singing mardi gras songs and NOLA songs that was kinda' funny-so out of place though(even though it was in NO Square). Mardi Gras time in 2005 was moderate crowds, I'd call it (been there in a low crowd season-weekend of marathon 2003) but Daytona 500 was also at that time too(which it is not at that time in 2008). So I'd call it 20 minutes waits-maybe 30 on big rides-for Mardi Gras time. Hope I am right!!

Should you look up Mardi Gras for a small unit study you will find just HOW it all is religiously based(Catholic) and it all revolves around Kings Day and Easter. I grew up down here(I am now about 40 minutes north of NOLA) and I love the heritage of it all, but don't frequent parades like I used to. We may do one or 2 and then MG day parades. Hey... it 's FREE entertainment!!! Good for a HS'er!! Not many Christian HS'ers "do" MG b/c of all the negative horrible stuff that happens in the FQ sometimes on MG. I am sure there are other reasons for some, but we still enjoy it in bits and pieces, for what it is-FREE fun!! (and we are Christian, not Catholic though)

I love the freedom HS'ing gives us too- DH , whom was very nervous about doing it at first, loves the flexibilty and lack of fighting homework down at the end of a long day!! And WDW not in summer is always a plus.
Lori

Did you really think Mardi Gras week 2005 was moderate crowds....lol?
I was there and we must have gone to different parks on different days, because it was crowded in every park we went to, where we ate, where we stayed....lol We have gone during Mardi Gras other years that were nothing like 2005...we also went June 2006 ...never again...too hot, too crowded... I think i will stick to Feb. and November though...way better than summer months, even being from Louisiana, it is too hot for us...lol
Hope ya'll have a great time for Mardi Gras 2008, a lot of our family will be there too.. Really shouldn't be as bad as 2005 ...hopefully

How sweet ~ on our last trip I was a fairygodmailer to some boardies kids - have you been to that thread? Check it out if not. DH just told me I gave you the wrong dates, we'll arrive on the 2nd also not the 3rd!!! LOL ( He cracks me up!!!)

Hey ~ not nutty at all!!! We go to allears and look at the menus - then we decide, then decide again, and yep, then decide again!!! LOL The last 3 trips we've gotten the dining plan (once we got it free) but, we really like it. It makes thing so simple!!

I am from New Orleans. DH is stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC right now, but we are moving to Ft. Polk near Leesville in about 2 wks. We will be at WDW in Feb as well. I have my ressies at FW for Feb 2-10.

We were there in Feb-Mar 06 for Mardi Gras as well. I think the crowds over Mardi Gras vary depending on when other states are taking spring breaks. When MG is in late Feb to early Mar, it is more crowded than when MG is in early Feb.

When I made my ressies, the CM told me that the '08 rates will be out in July. I will call back then and see if I can get my AAA discount. Last Dec, I saved 20% per night. Can't wait for the times to be posted so that I can decide which parks we will be going to each day. I already have a tentative schedule set along with what shirts we will be wearing each day. (I am not obsessive or anything. :rolleyes1 ) My husband will be deployed though, so I will be there alone with my kiddos. We will be the loud group in matching shirts.

Can't wait to get there. I am praying for low crowds and nice weather.

Count us in... we are going Jan 25-Feb 1, 2008. I am new to this code thing... can't wait to hear more. Should I log onto disney.com and order a dvd to get started. Any other advise on how to get a code?

Yes and have a box of tissues handy...I cried through the whole thing I was so happy watching it :rolleyes2

Hey ya'll! we got some newbies joining up -well, at least new to this thread!

:flower3: WELCOME!!!

I do NOT like making ADR for too much. I like to see where I am and then decide what and where to eat. I usually make ADR's of big things only. We are using the DDE to save 20% off table service/hotel food court meals.

Mamaloya-I have shirts too!! We will have "Celebrate Life" on the back of all of them!! For each day. I have been buying them every time I catch a sale on Dsiney shirts! I am now on the hunt for DD's outfits for the Spirit of Ohana dinner-we want tropical style!! I have a Mickey and Minnie Hawaiian style dress and DH has a red Mickey surfer button down collared shirt he'll wear over a white t-shirt. I like the DS ones, but waiting to see if they go on sale ever!! They are sooo cute. I am also checking e-bay for the kid sized matching dresses to what I have. Hope your move to La. is smooth.

Lori

I'm hoping for a discount AND a repeat of the PPP in Feb or early March! I think I will need both these in order to talk my DH into going.:smooth:

hey Stinkerbelle317-we love LOST, WDW, DL(of course) and we love Chicago too! We were there April 2006 and had so much fun. I have to say it was a little nervewracking with kids(we took all the public transportation, incl cabs). My DH goes there a lot with work and he wanted all of us to go on a vacation there-so we did! I could spend days in the Field Museum. I loved that place.

We're waiting to hear about PPP too! Hoping..... hoping......hopin'.... :flower3:

Lori

We will be checking in on Feb 29th-Mar 7th so I guess that means I can hope for a Feb discount of some sort. :) We were there last mid March but missed out on PPP so I am hoping that happens again and we are there at the right time.

Hey Lori ~ When I was at the Disney Store I saw some new "tiki kingdom" stuff - very tropical looking, they had some girls dresses -- keep watching, it may go onsale before our trips!!!

Does anyone know how soon the discounts come out? Are they right at the last minute or sooner than that? TIA.

thanks Wendypooh! I saw those when I got my AP, but DD( was not sure about them. DD7 will still wear what I giver her, but I want them to match somewhat for that. She now thinks they were cute and I will check online every week or so for sales! Let me know if you head back and they are on sale. I do not live near a DS!

Lori

Just checkin in here! DH and I will be going in Jan/Feb for only 3 nights and we're not taking the kids. I'm not sure where we'll be staying for this trip, possibly looking into PORS. We'll be staying at WL this Sept w/ Free dining and would love to stay at AKL but I hate to stay there w/out the kids. I do know we'll be doing DDP but still hoping for a wonderful code!

So, I'm joining in...also from Louisiana and hoping to book a Mardi Gras trip. What's the best place to stay with 3 little kids (will be 7, 6 and 4). I know you can't stay in the value resorts with 5 people...

Also, I admittedly did not read every post in the thread, so I have a question that may be answered somewhere else. Do you have to have an AP or belong to AAA to get a discount code?

In the past they sometimes came out with codes for everyone-it seems in the past couple years(via Mousesavers.com) you need AAA or an AP. I could be wrong, though.
