February 17, 2007

I am in full Christmas mode! My house is decorated, and I am well on my way with my Christmas cookies (4 kinds done and in the freezer, 8 to go!).
I am thinking about gifts for my kids. I am making them cruise boxes. I have a lot of ideas, but am having trouble finding some things (I should have bought cheap swim goggles this summer-can't find them anywhere now), but I think they'll be happy with what I can find...
Anyways, I would like to put a list of Names and e-mail addresses of the kids in our group in their gift boxes. Is that OK with you all? Please PM me either way...(I won't include yours. if you would rather I not.) I won't print it up for a few weeks, but wanted to ask now... (If anyone else wants the ones I get permission for, I'll send you the list)
Also, I am still working on the cruise list if anyone has new or updated info, or wants to be added to the list.
Once the holidays are over, we should start thinking about a few get-togethers on board :goodvibes
It's getting closer!!

Wow Sue, I am impressed, it feels like the halloween decoration came down just a few days ago, I am not ready for Christmas yet, the fact that it has been so mild probably has something to do with it. LAst year at this time was the first time we had gone skiing, we have season pass to the local ski area, and the opened thanksgiving week-end last year, this year we could go sunbathing instead....

Now -27 C, I am not ready for, brrrrr you must be freezing Pam, the cruise will feel so warm to you.
You and I will be getting up really early to clear immigration in St. Thomas and then Port Canaveral, it is inconvenient but no big deal.

Good morning ladies!

Sue -- I sent you a PM with Courtney & Kelli's information -- AIM names and Courtney's myspace to include in your list.

I'm getting excited. I'm sooo ready to skip over Christmas, New Years, my birthday and the start of Mardi Gras season in order to get to the cruise.

Oh -- and by the way -- its 69 degrees here this morning. It'll be shorts and tshirt weather by lunch. It was crazy to go shopping in the New Orleans malls yesterday in shorts and capris!

Brian is back in Virginia at school again. His visit was extremely short but was nice. I think he needed to get away from the rigors of his training for his next military rotation in order to recharge his batteries for his last two weeks of school before his Dec 8th graduation.

Pam- my DS15 was feeling cold yeaterday, so I showed him your post. It was about 35 when he saw it, so he stopped complaining real quick (NOT-he IS 15, LOL). It did make me feel a little warmer though. -27??!! We only hit that a few days each winter. ANd it's usually at night. Keep warm!

Thanks Sue. Glad to make you guys feel warmer. We don't usually get too many of these extremely cold days, but when we do they are nasty. Just means I can stay inside and catch up on trip reports... I tried converting the numbers from the metric system to the imperial units. At that temp, doesn't seem to make alot of different... We have a heavy snowfall warning now and looks like we may warm up to the plus side by the end of the week.

My boys don't really have individual email addresses, but feel free to include the one I gave you already.

Lisa, I am with you, I am ready to skip Xmas and go straight to Feb, where I can go someplace warm.... :sunny:

Hello everyone!

We dipped too far down -- way to the bottom of page 2 so I thought I would take this opportunity to bump us back to the top.

My sister placed a disneyshopping.com order last night and called to see if I needed anything. I decided to just wear a pirate shirt so I had her order it for me. The good news . . . I purchased it for $9.74. The bad news . . . I purchased another $43 worth of stuff! hehe

Hope everyone is doing well and staying warm.

Lisa

How exciting!

I have been reading the DIS boards and just this morning found you all. My new DH and I will be joining you all for our Honnymoon Cruise. We are leaving the kids in Orlando to catch their flight home to California. My DH (Jeff) and I (Debbie) are getting married on 2/14/07 at the Sheraton Vistana Resort. We (with kids) will be there all week playing at WDW. As much as I love my DH to be, I'm more excited about the trip then I am about the wedding.

Will somebody please tell me how to add the silly smilies to my postings!!!!!

My boys and I can't go a year without going to DL and we were lucky enough to go to WDW 8 yrs. ago (I can't believe it was so long ago). We added a DCL 4 day cruise onto that trip and we had a blast. My boys are now 24 and 20 yrs of age and my DH's son is 15.

This will be my DH's 1st cruise and he is very excited. However, he won't be the one acting like a big kid.

Here are our vital statisics:

Debbie & Jeff
Lagunitas, California

Late dining
Sheraton Vistana Resort, Orlando

Please add us to the fun.

Thanks
Debbie

Hi Lisa,

I was wondering how you knew what your dining rotation is already? There is so much that I know I'm missing and would like to take advantage of.

Thanks,

:welcome: Debbie!
I am keeping a list, so I'll add you and DH.

As far as smilies go, they should be on the right side when you are posting. All you need to do is click on them.

For the smilies in a signature, go to "user CP" at the top left in the red bar. Once in there, there are instructions how to put smilies and avatars in your signature, as well as under your user name.
Welcome to our group, and to the DISboards too. You will get more info here than from any place else! :thumbsup2

There is no way to be sure. You can put a request on your reservation, and there are some typical assumptions, but nothing is guaranteed.
Sorry to answer for you Lisa ;)

I asked him that question on the phone last night. They put in their wishlist a few weeks ago naming regions that they would like to be assigned. He said they won't find out where they are going until after the holidays and then it is still subject to change.

There are a few places that just became available because individuals were "released" from their post but it was hard to hear over cellphones what he said.

At least I know he won't be assigned to Iraq for at least the first year!!
Hi again Lisa,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your son. My son was also a Marine and was stationed in San Diego, when he wasn't in Iraq! I live in Nothern California and was very happy that he was so near. He is now out of the Marine Corps and a Sheriff in the county he grew up in. I'm sure you are as proud of your son as I am of mine.

Sue,

Thank you for your help. As you can see, I have made some changes and will try others.

There are so meny postings to catch up on. Can you tell me if a DIS meet or anything else has been planned?

We haven't planned any meets yet. I think after the holidays we will definitely get some plans going.
If you haven't yet, you may want to go on the DCL site and book excursions and/or Palo reservations, if you are interested in either. Palo goes fairly quickly, and if you book your excursions on line, then you won't have to waste any time on board booking them.

We were able to book Palo & excursions on Nov. 4th and thank goodness we didn't have any problems. We have Palo brunch on Sunday at 10:30, dinner on Wednesday at 7:30 & tea on Thursday. I can't wait! I'm dieting now 1) to be able to fit in my wedding dress & 2) to be able to eat all the great food on ship. I'll probably have to come home and lose 10 lbs. again but it will be well worth it.

Let me ask your opinion, at this time we are taking the DCL bus to port but it isn't leaving till 12:30 pm. From what I read we should be there by 10 am to get on ship early or to possibly get an upgrade. We are thinking we should rent a car from Budget and drive. What do you think?

Well, we usually rent a car simply because there are 5 of us, and it is much cheaper. I am not sure if that's case with just 2 people, but it may be... You need to weigh the convenience of the bus vs. picking up and dropping off a car. Another option is to hire a town car, which will be much more $$, but they will work to your schedule.
As far as getting there early to get an upgrade, I wouldn't count on it. The week we are cruising is one of the busiest times for DCL because of school vacation week. The chance purchasing an upgrade at the port is probably slim, at best. What are you hoping to upgrade to?
Even if you arrive at 10:00, you will probably not board much before 11:45 or so...

Silly me, you're right about school vacation. I guess that means that the ship will be very full. I was hoping for a verhandah (I know I spelled that wrong), and of course a free upgrade. The last DCL cruise that I went on was less then 1/2 full but was the 2nd week in November.

I will be happy with whatever I have!

I think the rental car will be the best way for us to go. I'll send my new DH to drop off the car.

Thanks for the help,
Debbie

Hi everyone I just wanted to let everyone know who booked a cat 12 that the price has gone down by $340 ( at least from when I booked it). I was just curious and checked online reservations. I know that a couple of weeks ago they took out cat 12 all together. I called DCL and they are going to credit my credit card. Thats $340 more to spend on the ship. I wanted to spread the word. :cool1:

Heading out to eat dinner. My dh just came in from work -- he's been gone a while.

I'll catch up later though.

You can ask your travel agent to have DCL note your rotation request. When you get your KTTW card at checkin, it'll have your rotation on it. If it isn't what you'd prefer, you can go to ... don't remember exactly where (I wanted to say Rockin D Bar but that is for Palo but maybe its there too) . . . and ask to be switched.

My son is in school in Quantico right now and will graduate from his course on Dec 8th. My dh and I are heading out there on 12/5 and will stay until 12/11 seeing the DC sights.

More after I get back from eating and sending my images to the paper from the game tonight.

Lisa-Enjoy your timewith your DH. How long will he be home?

Sue:

He should be home until Dec 12th -- the day after we get back from Washington DC. He'll probably work through the holidays and as much as he can before the cruises. His longest period of work without coming home is 45 days. I don't think he'll break that record in the next few months but his time at home will probably be pretty limited.
