February 14-18, 2010 4 Night Wonder Cruise

Hubby has come up with a solution for getting the race in, we're going to get him a personal type radio with headphones! Being soooo close to Daytona SURELY he will be able to pick it up! Much cheaper than a personal TV (which is what we were considering).

My friend and I have made an executive momma decision (especially in the wake of getting our electric bills for that COLD month of Dec when the heat ran non stop) - we're going to wait and drive down on Saturday. It will be a long haul (about 9 hours) but it will save us the price of a hotel room and additional dinner out. Nita.... want to make it a caravan? We'll pick you up in Atlanta!

Hey I got one of those bills too, not used to that here in GA. That sounds good about the caravan.. What kind of radio are you looking at?

Just some kind of cheapy am/fm sports type radio. I was looking at them on the Walmart website yesterday (they are mostly around $10). I like looking on the websites first for that type of thing because they have the user reviews.

I am so glad that my husband is not into racing. We lived in Birmingham which is near Talladega and still never caught the racing fever. We never watch football, but this year we have watched because of the Saints. My husband is even counting the days until vacation now. He is so ready for some rest and relaxation!

Yeah, my husband likes racing but he does not get to watch it that much. But this is Daytona 500, which is like the super bowl of racing. He does like to get in the first race of the year. But it wont be bad if he does not get to. He is has never been on a cruise and is a workaholic so I think he is finally getting excited about it. He got up for work the other morning after having a rough day before at work and he just looked at me and asked how much longer till the cruise, I had to laugh. So I know he is ready to be a bum and spend some family time.

I read on another thread that the NFL playoff games were shown in Diversions last weekend (CBS and FOX) --- maybe there is hope for the Daytona 500 :goodvibes

Hey Laura,

I've been offline for a week or so now. Being a newly single parent is wreaking havoc on my planning for this trip, as well as my sanity. I am sure I am too late to participate in the FE, but I'd be interested in meeting up with other folks from this group, if that's possible?

As for our family, I have a DD(8), DD(6), and me. I'm trying to get excited for the trip and so I've been reading through the boards all morning! Our cabin # is 2622. I hope to see you on board!

Hilary

I know my nephew watch football often in Diversions with his friends and their dad, so fingers crossed for you racefans.

Is there anyone on here from New York City? Not that I'm not already busy enough between now and cruise time, but I found out yesterday that I have to go to a conference Feb 3 & 4 in West Nyack. Have to fly in to JFK and I'm looking for good car service recommendation. I know it won't be cheap, but timing isn't ideal for public transportation. Also, what's the public transport like from the World of Disney store to JFK? Have about 4 hours to waste after the conference and was thinking of stopping in there.

Cheers!

Jennifer

PUPPIES, if you put a hanger up you will get things from me, and I bet you will from others, too! I don't know your situation and I don't want to pry, but I am sure it has been rough for you adjusting to single parenthood and I hope you and your children have an absolutely wonderful time on the cruise and alittle reprieve from everyday life! Look forward to meeting you at our Meet in the Promenade Lounge on Sunday at 3!

Hi Jennifer--

I will see what I can find out regarding Car Service to West Nyack, I will send you a PM with a couple of options.

As far a JFK and World of Disney Store -- Keep in mind that mid-town Manhattan traffic can be crazy - technically it shouldn't take more than 40ish minutes to get to JFK by car-- but I would not count on that at all. I know you have 4 hrs to waste -- are you staying up by the conference in West Nyack? That's about 60-70 minutes outside of Manhattan - so you will need to factor that into your plans. You should be able to fit it in -- but leave plenty of extra time to get out of the city, just in case. FYI, NYC Taxi is $45 flat fare + tolls ($5.50) to JFK. There is also Air Train -- you would need to take the LI Railroad to Jamaica Station and then the Air Train to JFK (the cost will be about $13)

Will let you know what I find out about car service. Safe travels...Jeannine

Laura, thanks. I know everyone has challenges they must face in life, and hey, the fact that we are still able to go on a cruise and escape to the happiest place on earth (well, besides the Disney parks), I can't complain too much! I look forward to meeting folks on Sunday in the Promenade Lounge!
;)

Laura - were you able to email the list yet? Just checking as I haven't seen it come into my inbox yet and sometimes my ISP blocks things before I see them.

I'm looking forward to the cruise but with being so busy and it being cold and snowy up here, I'm not quite feeling excited yet. I think the only thing I've come up with so far is a cruise playlist with a couple songs to represent each day of our vacation on my iPhone. What's everyone else doing to get in the cruise mood?

Cheers!

Jennifer

MAINEJENNIFER, I don't have an email address for you, if you will pm it to me I will send you the list

Yeah, the end of the year is super busy for my DH, and the beginning of the year has not been much better. He is at the point that he is happily counting days with me and being so close makes going to work that much easier because each day he knows that he is that much closer to fun in the sun. We have been having weather in the 60s and 70s so I think we are going to have an incredible cruise!

I packed up our FE stuff, all ready to ship to our hotel in a week or so. (Puppies: I already have stuff for you too!) Sure sign that things are getting close! Now packing -- agh, I always overpack. But, we're trying to keep in check. We'll see.

We'll be in single digits soon! So excited!!!!:woohoo::yay::banana::cool1:

Looking forward to meeting everyone on Sunday afternoon.

Stephanie

I am proud of the Saints (currently 28-28 in overtime with the Vikings as I type) win or lose, so I wish I could bring a bit of Louisiana to the whole ship but that would be too much to ship. I am happy to share that bit with you all including puppies so get ready for a little Mardi Gras love from Louisiana!

Almost forgot -- DH and I did our volunteer day today at the local YMCA. So, we're hoping we get our vouchers in time to use them the day we get off the ship. We're told it could take 2-4 weeks to get them. Let's hope for closer to 2 weeks.....

Hello Stephanie...

We got our e-mail notification on Sunday (less than a week after our volunteer day). In the e-mail you will be prompted to print your vouchers.

Hoping you will have a similar experience. :goodvibes
