Feb No Buy! Short Month! We can do this!

I'm in again this month!

Welcome new faces, hope you love the thread!

I've shooting for a goal of 12 no-buys for the shorter month. This month both DH and I have birthdays, plus v-day so that ads some extra expenses. Thankfully, we aren't having major birthdays this year so no big parties and we never do anything big for v-day. We are planning on buying a new house in March or April, so we need to do some saving to prep for the extra moving expenses.

Feb 1 I like to start the month with a no buy, but no such luck today. $70 had to register the boys for soccer and swimming, but I found out I had a big credit on my account (yay for found money!) so that took care of half the bill, $60 groceries.

Feb 2 It was errand day today, so $$$! $170 groceries, $40 gas, $25 filed my taxes. Hopefully this will take care of any spending through early next week.

Feb 3 We got caught out unexpectedly at lunch time, so we had to hit Subway. I could have waited, but DH gets very cranky if he isn't fed on schedule :rotfl:! $15 Subway.

Feb 4 $6 dinner with my parents, $23 gas

Feb 5 :cheer2: woo hoo! Finally a no buy day!

Feb 6 :cheer2:

Feb 7 $21 lunch, $40 dinner, $89 paperwork that need to be ordered. I feel terrible that we had lunch AND dinner out today. But, we're in the middle of crazy loan/house stuff and after dealing with that and a preschool board meeting today plus babysitting a friend's little boy, I did not have cooking dinner in me!

Feb 8 :cheer2: Calling it early because the roads are awful and we're staying inside!

Feb 9 It's been a pricey couple of days! $64 moving supplies, $10 Inta Juice

Feb 10 $30 Home Depot-more boxes, $40 gas, $18 medical, $22 driver's license, $33 date night with DH

Feb 11 $14 groceries, $12 car wash

Feb 12 :cheer2:

Feb 13 :cheer2:

7/14 No Buy Days!

Doing okay with the No Buys, but I'm blowing the budget. Although I consider it bad beginnning of the month budgeting on my part instead of spending too much.

I'm glad some of you could relate to this. Or course, now I'm spending too much, too. I'm glad Feb is a short month.

Where'sPiglet? - 8 zero days in a row !! :worship: I am very impressed. In a whole year the best I ever did was 4.

Somehow I biffed up the formatting of this in my multi-quote post.

I agree with a PP who said this is the best quote of the month! It can be SO TRUE!

1: $20.89 gas ($2.86/gallon)
2: $0!
3: $0!
4: $0!
5: $138.70 Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS, SaveALot, Rouses, Winn-Dixie, Wendy's
6: $0!
7: $0!
8: $0!
9: $0!
10: $0!
11: $0!
12: $0!
13: $0!

$0 Days: 11
Spending: $159.59/$475= 34%
Days Passed: 13/28: 46%

Goal: To keep spending to within $475 for food, gas, and miscellaneous. I do not track bills; I only track "point of sale" transactions.

Alas, my 8 day $0 Day streak is going to come to an end tomorrow. I am down to about a 1/4 of a tank of gas, so I need to stop and get that tomorrow. While I'm at it, I want to take advantage of some sales at the grocery store. I also have a few coupons that are expiring very soon, so I have a lit of about 5 stores to visit tomorrow. Each store has only 1-3 items on the list! They are all pretty much in a row on one street, so it's not like I'm driving all over town.

Thanks! You have been doing awesome on your 0$ days as well. :goodvibes

What is a no buy day? Is that why I started doing this? Because I can't seem to get any. :-)

Running Total: Spent $662

I realized I had been posting my spending but not commenting on stuff! I think January was the first month I actually posted here for the entire month. I attribute that to the increased amount of conversation with others on the thread. Yes, it can pull it a little off topic at times, but I am more apt to come post when I know everybody better. :grouphug:

That is a tough place to be in. I hope the job search is successful for you and the new job is a better fit for you.

I think treating yourself to something reasonable in these circumstances is understandable. At least you didn't take a spontaneous WDW trip.

I'm actually going to Orlando next weekend, my nephew from Chicago is playing at Downtown Disney with his band. We are going to Universal during the day tho- we have season passes.

That is fantastic! Congratulations! What a great story about the ring and the whole day of her favorite things. He really does sound like a keeper! :lovestruc

He is wonderful. They are really in love.

Good job on the bargain hunting! Full confidence at a job interview is a good thing. :thumbsup2

I have never had a gas pump run out on me in the middle of pumping. Does it just shut off as if your tank is full?

The pump was just spitting out gas like a penny at a time. I gave up. ;)
You really do read every post! I try to too. I love this thread. Everyone is so supportive. Its like you are all my invisible friends. Isn't it wierd that we all know so much about each other but would probably not know each other if we ran into each other at Disney?

Anyway, thanks for being an awesome Internet friend.

I'm back on board. Feb should be a money maker for me. I make/sell Valentine's Day candy. I'm readjusting my goals from last month

02/09 $18.00 in hospital caf food. There was a family emergency and spent the day and night at the hospital.
02/10 By 6:00am I had already spent $6.00 on juice, bagel, and a fruit cup Hospital caf food is outrageously expensive. I'm back home to shower and to pack up food to bring back up to the hospital.
02/11-0-:cheer2: Not only did my DNiece get out of ICU, but, they discharged her:confused3. After receiving 18 units of blood and a 7 hr. surgery to save her life. They discharge her 2 days later. Gotta love the insurance company:rolleyes1. But, so glad she's home.

I don't know how this got left out of my multi-quote. I thought I clicked it, but realized just now it wasn't included. :confused3

How is your Valentine's Day candy coming along?

And WOW on the hospital stay! :scared1: I can't believe she went from ICU to discharge so quickly! Especially after needing 18 units of blood and a 7 hour surgery! :scared1: I am not sure if medical advances are just that good, or if the insurance is just that bad. :sad2: I am glad she is home! I hope she gets 100% soon!

My brother treated my mom and I (and himself) to a day at the spa today. We each got a massage, another treatment, and some time in the jacuzzi/pool. :cloud9: I thought I would spend at least some money, but my mom insisted on paying for lunch, and she refused to let me pay for a necklace she wanted to buy. So hard to spoil a mom!

Sounds like a great day! And yes, hard to spoil a mom!

Where'sPiglet? - 8 zero days in a row !! :worship: I am very impressed. In a whole year the best I ever did was 4.

Thank you!

I think my best streak before was also 4.

Thanks! You have been doing awesome on your 0$ days as well. :goodvibes

Thank you.

What is a no buy day? Is that why I started doing this? Because I can't seem to get any. :-)

:lmao: I feel like that most months. This month must be some sort of fluke.

[/B]You really do read every post! I try to too. I love this thread. Everyone is so supportive. Its like you are all my invisible friends. Isn't it wierd that we all know so much about each other but would probably not know each other if we ran into each other at Disney?

Anyway, thanks for being an awesome Internet friend.

Awww, thanks! This thread has been very good for me; I try to give back by reading each post and offering encouragement and, if I have any, advice. And it's true that I would have no idea if I were to run into anyone here in WDW! Amazing!

And I forgot you live in Tampa. :upsidedow I guess an impromptu trip to WDW is not as extravagant as it would be for most of the rest of us. :rotfl2:

$0 Days: 8!! But, tomorrow, I have to go to DMV after work, to replace my ID. So not a no-spend day.

Sounds like a fun afternoon.

Oh - your post reminded me about a commercial I saw for Chuck E Cheese. It said something about every game was now 1 token? I don't remember who it was on here that has a stash of about 700, but I thought of this thread! :rotfl:

We went and got our chair from my grandma's friend. I love it. It is navy blue and fits in with out decor. Also being free is good. I did have to stop and get gas as well as a few items at the grocery.

Catching up for the beginning of the week. It's going to be a busy one for me.....meetings, concert, trip to the airport, cross grade grouping and Valentines Day. Busy. ::yes::

Feb. 1: Groceries $30, summer conference for me....$295 (luckily, I've saved for this and it is not really a part of the budget ;) )
Feb. 2: $0 Snow day!
Feb. 3: $20 at DD's Talent night. $10 for my admission, and $10 for draws. I won a really nice Lavender hand cream/soap/shower gel set from Crabtree and Evelyn. :goodvibes
Feb. 4: gas $45, 2 pair special "loop" scissors for school $7, and a renewal for Scholars Choice which nets me 10% discount, $10 in free goods, AND a huge mug/warmer + notepads $10 (seems like a deal to me :rotfl: ) Hmmmm. So far, I can't put the finger on DH for spending (but tomorrow is another day....one of his 'shopping days!"
Feb. 5: DH shopped in the city in the morning-groceries $45 and I shopped Costco-groceries-$32, tax software-$37 and in our village in the afternoon, another $45 on groceries. After a Church dinner that he worked at, DH brought home buns, snacks, pie etc, so we gained there ;)
Feb. 6: DH bought some gingerale for DD who isn't feeling well $4, so I had him top up the gas $35 since we'd need it tomorrow anyway
Feb. 7: $0 Finally, another one!
Feb. 8: DH's 'shopping day' and it was only $60. That, in itself, is an accomplishment!
Feb. 9: groceries....stocking up $83
Feb 10: gas $43, pharmacy $25
Feb 11: DD's birthday so she went wild with spending-close to $200 that Mommy forked out, but I'm not going to count that since it will come out of a different budget. Just the same, let me say it was well over (say 4 times!) what I would have sent her if she were still in Egypt. OTOH, she was excited to get her birthday wish....an end to the protests...and will likely return shortly, so I spoiled her some. I spent (for the house/family) about $50, including a trip to Tim Horton's for hot chocolate for her "birthday surprise visitor". (another wish that she got)
Feb 12: still stocking up groceries $100
Feb 13: needed to buy carrots and dinner rolls for DD's birthday $5
No Buy days this month: 2/10

This has been an expensive few days for us. My oldest ds's 4th birthday is this week, my niece turns 3 tomorrow, and Valentines' day tomorrow. I ended up getting my son an iXL game system. I hope he likes it. I debated for over 20 minutes in Target's aisle which game system to get him. I need to stop by Meijer to get him the Toy Story book to go with it. Target has Toy Story 3 on sale for $9 this week, so I picked that up too.

I had the craziest dream last night! I dreamt that I spent $629 at the grocery store, and just stood there at the register CRYING and repeating, "But how am I going to explain this my budget board friends?" :rotfl2:

Tried them on yesterday--they are now too big:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Oh - your post reminded me about a commercial I saw for Chuck E Cheese. It said something about every game was now 1 token? I don't remember who it was on here that has a stash of about 700, but I thought of this thread! :rotfl:[/QUOTE]

Yeah, that is me. I gave mt DH a stack of coupons for our DD9's b-day party in case we needed them. He thought they were all going to be used so he went and used all the coupons at once. I can't fault him, he was helping, but I don't know if we will ever use all those tokens! :lmao:

I've only posted impulse/nonessential buys.

Early in the month I posted $20 for jeans I hoped to be small enough to need for vacation.

Tried them on yesterday--they are now too big:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
