Feb.car rental too expensive! HELP!

Just bad typing on my part. It is 428448 and comes from the Rand McNally Walmart 2009 special edition, so it is an open public code (nothing to clip and show).

The thing I questioned is that while this is what Mousesavers says of that rate. I was not able to find the code anywhere in our Rand McNally WalMart road atlas. I think it may have been in a past edition, just not the new one. Or I am not looking in the right place.

It is possibly from a prior issue, but Mary is pretty careful about these things.

I booked with code 428488 thinking it was the Wal-mart code. It gave me a much better rate than any other code, but now that I know it's an error I don't want to use it. Before I cancel my reservation, does anyone know what this code is for or where it is from. I tried google but didn't find anything except this thread. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi, Same here!! Anyone KNOW where 428488 comes from?? Joan

Would Alamo tell us, if someone called them on the phone? The code does work for a discount. But, hate to use something not available to the public.

I bought our 2009 Walmart edition in April as we were traveling to parts of the Carolinas where AAA didn't have city maps available for some of the metro areas and I wanted the detail that Rand McNally has still (albeit in very tiny print). That edition had a separate section bound into it with lots of coupons to clip and some special online Walmart rates for hotels, rental cars, etc. That was where I first saw the code and used it for our June rental at MCO and an August rental at TPA. I had only seen the other Walmart code on Mousesavers prior to noticing this one.

Our 2009 road atlas didn't have a seperate section like you describe.

In general, they won't.

My experience: if you search (with google etc.) for the code # plus the name of the rental company, and can't find the code with a reasonable description in less than a few pages, it's not "available to the public."

Thanks. I was afraid of that. But I'd rather not use something that I'm not entitled to. I'll just go with something safe.

Thanks,
I just used the Walmart code to get our car for the end of February. I'll check closer to our trip but it is a relief to know we have something at an okay price.
I used it before I noticed the discussion of where it came from. I'm assuming it is from an open source available to anyone.

Walmart code 430710 is available on Mousesavers and there is a link to the code on the Walmart website there. The 428448 code is appearently from the Walmart version of the Rand McNally road atlas. There are coupons in some of the books. You could be asked to produce a coupon. The 430710 code is probably easier for you to provide proof and provides the same rate and benefit of the other. There is really no need to use the 428448 code.

Yikes! My error on posting the wrong code - 428488! This is not the Walmart code. I have to let my friend know. I feel realy bad that I posted this code in error. I have no idea what the code is for so no one should use this as you may not be qualified. I am so mad at myself! Sorry!!!!

I asked our in house travel agency if they could see what the 428488 code is available for and their answer was it was for a Japanese trade group. I'd guess it may be hard to justify using it.

As others have said, keep checking rates. We always use a Costco code along with any other applicable code I find on Mousesavers or www.carrentalsavers.com. I have rebooked twice in the last 1-1/2 weeks as rates have continued to drop for our January trip.

Don't worry about it. You were trying to help all of us. Typos happen all of the time. We'll just have keep watching for a deal.

I belive you are there during the Daytona 500. I have been TOLD that this event eats up LOTS of rentals in the Central Florida area. Just an FYI.
Also mid-winter break/President's week for most schools in the northeast. Lots of folks heading to FL to cure their seasonal depression ;)

I used this code for my Feb 27- Mar 3 rental (did this back in July). I want to stick with it because if I do not I will lose my good rate. I will e-mail Mary at mousesavers to see if she can give us some info.

I e-mailed Mary

"We have a discussion on this code on the disboards. I have a reservation using this code as do others but some are thinking it is not a good code. Can you find out for us?
Thank you, Lisa"

Mary got back to me very quickly. This is her response

"I think there is a problem with the management at Alamo's MCO location, not with the code. If you use the code, check in at the kiosks to avoid the counter."
