I know we are starting this thread early... but someone has to do it.

Since Im a compulsive planner, this is one less thing to do.

Its still a few months away from our Feb 09 cruise and here I am starting a thread on a 2010 cruise!

We will have 3 kids with us if anyone wants to get them emailing with other kids ... let me know.

Hi, I know it is early, but I too like to plan way in advance.:goodvibes This will be our first Disney cruise and we are taking our two children and spouses and 6 grandchildren on this trip. None of them have cruised before either.
What are the ages of your children? We have a 10, 9, 8, 5, 4 and 2 yr. old.
Any tips you want to share?
Thanks in advance and enjoy the Feb. 09 cruise!!

Hi,
We just booked for this cruise and are excited to be planning a trip on the 'Mickey boat' again!

We are 2 adults/2 kids and also will have two other families going with us - kids ages will be G8, G6, G5, B4, B3

Looking forward to chatting with you as time goes by, and hopefully many others will join our thread!
Lauri

Welcome Lauri,
As a vetran cruiser, how were your other cruises? We are so looking forward to this cruise and felt a 4 night would be a good way to get our feet wet. How long were your other cruises and do you have any tips for us? I'm sure some of your children will be with ours on this trip. Have they done the kids clubs before and what did they think?

Thanks for the post. I was getting worried no one was joining us on this thread.

Karen, your cruise actually sounds alot like the one we did before! It was a 7-night, my inlaws took their children and grandchildren. We picked one thing to do together each day (for us it was dinner together) but otherwise did our own thing. Although we did run into each other alot and did fun things together spontaneously, it was nice to have no pressure to 'make' that happen, since everyone had their own interests and schedules.

If you want to see the details, click on the link for my trip report in my signature.

Our daughter was 5 and enjoyed the kids' club alot - she spent a couple hours each day in there, she'd pick something she wanted to do and we'd drop her off for it. Additionally, we'd pop in every now and then and play together in there, that was fun. Our son was only 20 months then, so he used the Flounder's nursery and really liked it (but of course it's not free and requires reservations ahead of time).

I'm sure we'll hear from more folks as time goes by - probably this fall.

Hi Lauri,
Thank you for the response. I read your entire trip report and laughed so hard. I do believe we may have kindred spirits. You answered so many questions in that trip report. You gave me great insight on not planning too many activities for three families as well.
Look forward to our cruise together.
Karen

Hello all!

We are in. This will be our third cruise with DH and my two children, 6 and 5. Already looking forward to it and trying to plan what to do for the Friday and Saturday prior.

Terri,
Welcome. It is so good to hear there will be a few more disboard members to join our cruise. We will have a 7 yr old and a 5 year old on this trip close to your children's ages. Looking forward to our first Disney cruise.
Karen

Hi Karen.
Sorry about the delay in responding, my ability to get on the boards is sporadic these days! You will have a great time with your family. We didn't expect too much on our first cruise. At that time of our first cruise my children were 5 and 4. My youngest was not interested in the kids club (he is very shy), so we were together for the entire day. (We anticipated this before hand). Regardless, it was a great vacation. Everyone loved Castaway Cay - just playing on the beach. We spent a lot of time by the pool and generally tried to soak up the Sun. This year we started our holiday at WDW. In 2010 we will follow the cruise with a stay at WDW. It is all great to look forward to.

Hi Lauri!
Thanks for the welcome. Have a few moments to lurk on the boards since DH is out of town for the weekend!
When is everyone arriving for their cruise? The day before or earlier? Do you plan to stay in Port Canaveral or MCO if staying over?

I am still trying to figure out what to do. I think since we are flying all the way from Chicago, we might as well leave on Friday since my kids will not miss any more school and I want to try to maximize my exposure to warm weather...

At this point I am thinking of staying in Port Canaveral and maybe going to Kennedy Space Center. Still flirting with different ideas. When I have more time, I want to post the question on the main board as the time gets closer...

We are also coming down early. We don't have our flights booked yet, but probably flying down Thur or Fri. Right now we are planning to rent a car and stay a couple nights in Port Canveral - also want to see the KSC and enjoy the beach a little (even if it's cool).

On our previous cruise we came in the day before and stayed at the MCO Hyatt and took the Disney Transport bus - which all went very well. But this time we want a little more time before the cruise.

It's fun to plan!:cheer2:

Count us in on this cruise. This will be our 2nd 4-night and 6th time on DCL. We are addicted!!! It will be DH, myself, and our 2 year old.

Hi Shauna and Mimi,
Welcome!:flower3:

Shauna, how do the 4 night compare to the 7 night in your opinion? We did a 7 night before, taking the shorter one this time. I'm hoping we won't be disappointed by it feeling 'too short'.

I figure any cruise is better than no cruise at all.:thumbsup2

Really, we had a lot of fun on our 4-night. It was shorter and the time seemed to go by fast, but even the 7-nights go by fast. Time flies when you are having fun. I did like having a sea day after Castaway Cay, that seemed to help a little. I hate getting back onboard on the 7-night cruises and realizing that we have to pack and leave the next morning. They have similar entertainment, just less of it (they pick the highlights). This time we want to maximize our time on the ship, so we are probably going to stay on the ship in Nassau. Nassau just wasn't that great IMO (and in many DISers opinions). I've seen it once and that is enough. I have heard that if you do a planned excursion or go over to Atlantis then it is worth getting off, but it isn't worth just wandering around (which is what we did last time, although we did take a water taxi over to Atlantis as well). Anyway, I'm sure we will all have a WONDERful time! We are planning to spend some time in the parks before and after this cruise to make it a little longer. Let me know if you have more questions. Welcome Meg! If you have any questions about the cruise, just ask. I know I had tons of questions when we did our first cruise. DH and I cruised 3 times before DD joined us. I love how DCL has something to offer everyone!

Hi MinnieMeg!
Welcome to the group!:cutie:

How is everyone doing? The cruise is 7-1/2 months away. I just wish some of the airlines would open up their flight schedules that far. We typically fly Delta, but they keep the fares high until the others (like Southwest) open their schedules. I know we have plenty of time to get the flights, but we will be returning home President's Day weekend and I'm hoping to get a good fare before they go up.
