Feb 5th - 12th 2012 Mexican Riviera on the Disney Wonder

As a newbie myself, I'm not sure of all the things I'm going to do.

I know my ds7 wants to try the pools  (he's never been swimming outdoors! Alaskan waters are on the cool side even in the summer!). I'm hoping that he will want to come see at least one of the shows (I've told him it will help him earn one of his Tiger Scout electives). And I'm also hoping that my ds7 will want to be glued to the clubs a lot so I can go have some "Mommy" time with my friend Lori and other adults! :woohoo:

Hi! my son is a "scout" in the Canadian boy scouts system, which is ages 11-13, perhaps I'll sneak in his necker and shirt for a picture with your younger boys.

See you all soon!

Question of the Day: Tuesday, January 24

How do you plan on spending your time on the ship? Do some of the veteran cruisers have advice for us newbies on things we may not think of doing?

The three of us will probably be going in three different directions. My DH likes movies, relaxing on Deck 4, and restaurants. My 15 year old DD will be the one laying in a deck chair with an ipod in her ears from morning to dinnertime. I'm an early riser and love to take in many of the activities. I'll be at the "Art of Entertaining" Series (we have enough sea days to cover appetizer, entree AND dessert!) trivia games, relaxing in the hot tub, or enjoying Cove Cafe.

Other than our first pre-organized "meet n' greet" our cruise group had standing meeting times for drop-in get togethers (7:30 am @ Cove Cafe, 4:00 pm @ port side near Goofy Pool) and people could show up and know they'd meet a friendly face for a chat/drink.

Getting VERY excited about this trip!!! We will be leaving in 8 days ...

Oops ~ forgot to continue our alphabet trivia!

Who's up for "L" ??

My DS is a Tiger Cub too. How many other Cub Scouts do we have coming along? I'm his den leader and think it would be kinda cool for him to get a photo with Tigers from far away lands...like Anchorage...right by Russia...:upsidedow

You just crack me up!!!:goodvibes

I feel so clueless with this board. I can't figure out how to post answers to questions within one post. Oh well. I'm also answering really out of order, too. Anywhooo. QOTD: I love taking advantage of all the ship has to offer... activities, learning opportunities, shows, relaxing and of course music! I've cruised at different stages of my life and haven't cruised as a family since our kiddos were 4. So, this will be a little different than the last Disney cruise. We are so excited we can barely stand it. Getting FE gifts done. Waiting for our FE to arrive. Organizing clothes, costumes, etc., etc. Can't wait to get onboard, meet y'all and have a ton of fun!!!!

What's special about area or culture ? This can be anything, whether you're from another country, or if there's something special about the place you grew up.

Well, I'm definitely Asian-American. My parents are Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese. It definitely influenced my up bringing. We're still celebrating Chinese New Year/Tet. I'm also a Southern California girl. I went to a high school and college not so far from the beach and filled with surfers in shorts and flip flops (even in the rain). I'm terribly horrid at dealing with the cold.

Hubby technically Asian-Canadian. I often tell him he's a Twinkie or a Banana (slang for someone who may look Asian but is rather Americanized). Seriously, he can't even use chopsticks properly! He was born in Canada (has a surprising amount of Canadian pride for someone who moved by the age of one). He was also raised on the East Coast so he's a big Patriots fan.

Kung Hei Fat Choy! We celebrated Chinese New Year on the weekend. DH is Japanese-Canadian so "our" New Year celebration is actually on January 1 (Japanese feast with family on that day), but we always celebrate the lunar new year too. (my dd's description for me is "whiter than snow!")

Other than cold temps in the winter (although not this year!!) we love living in the Toronto area. There's always so much going on ... a lot of Broadway plays also run here, there are great restaurants, and it's very multicultural.

If you or your hubby begin missing steamed rice onboard, your server will be able to get you some! My DH and DD cannot last a week without it and our server told us there are always rice cookers on (a lot of the staff crave rice too!) so just tell them when you need some with dinner.

I grew up in Alaska, born in Fairbanks, move to Anchorage as 10yo. While Alaska is unique, so many different cultures, so much beauty...my parents both grew up in the mid-west. The way I usually describe myself is Native Alaskan, but not Alaskan Native. It is a beautiful state, Anchorage doesn't really represent the whole state, it is very diverse, but pretty much "city". If you drive outside the city it is a different world, and if you fly out of the city even more so. I love, love, LOVE Alaska, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else, but I am ready for some sun and fun!!

Nothing really special about my area or culture...I was born and raised in the eastern part of San Diego County. I am Irish/English/German/Portuguese. This area is special for the weather, I too cannot handle the cold, I will be wearing shorts and a T-Shirt today. What is also nice is the lack of humidity, something I didnt understand until I traveled to the East Coast/South. I also like that we are 30 minutes from the beach, 1-1/2 hours from the desert, and 1-1/2 hours from DISNEYLAND.
