Feb.4,2006. Who else is sailing?

Tigerb - Any way you could "stretch the truth" and go and ahead and tell her that you ordered some information from DCL that is being delivered today by UPS? Or at least it "may" come today. I feel badly that all that great work you have done may be spoiled. There has to be some way.

Hello, Everyone

Tigerb...I had the same thing happen to me, TWICE. Two years ago John and I decided to surprise my mom and dad with a Disney Cruise...two weeks after paying the deposit (and several weeks before the "surprise" was to be revealed at Christmas) we found to our horror that a confirmation letter had been sent to my parents directly from the interline travel agent we were using. I had to get several of my relatives to help "stage" a story about how on my last cruise I gave their names and addresses to Disney as potential cruisers and that this was a "mock" confirmation used as an advertising ploy. My sister and nephew told my parents they'd gotten these confirmations, too. What an elaborate scheme! It worked, though...(and let me tell you, now that I've lost both parents in 9 months time, I will be forever grateful we took them on that cruise).

Then, just last month, I was preparing to "surprise" John and the kids for Christmas with a cruise on Wonder this coming April. Again, just two weeks after I paid the deposit, Disney sends the little booket outlining the Bahamas shore excursions, etc, addressed to John! (probably because our last two cruises must have had him as the primary traveler, although I booked the Wonder one myself.) Normally I get the mail, but John beat me home that day and says "we got something fun from DCL today we can open and read together later" thinking it was about our Feb. cruise. I panicked, and managed to replace the Wonder booklet with our Magic one when he wasn't looking. "I guess they just made a mistake and sent it twice" I said. Luckily, he didn't suspect.

Condolences to Steven...I don't know what I would have done if my dad had died right before the cruise and we had to miss it...I desperately need this trip to recover from so much sadness and loss.

Dee...Right now I'm writing training materials full time (zzzz) but I write a quarterly newsletter for an executive coaching firm and for several years was a primary source reporter for technology publications. And, like most freelancers, I dabble in fiction and non-fiction stuff, the bulk of which never gets finished because the revenue work takes precedence!

TigerB --

Do you have a friendly neighbor who could keep a lookout? Our UPS guy just drops and runs -- maybe your neighbor can retrieve the envelope before your mom does.

Will your mom open your mail?

Update - well, the problem with the mail thing (will she open my mail?) is that there is a packet addressed to me AND another addressed to her. So, even if she wasn't snoopy (which she is), she'd have hers to contend with. Even if she didn't open either of our packets, I am sure the DCL logo in the top left will clue her in...she's too snoopy to overlook where the packets come from...especially something special like when UPS delivers.

She's a USPS postmaster, so she's pretty attentive to mail in general...ecpecially something NOT USPS -- because she likes to see who is using her 'competitor'. (Oh brother.)

We have been *SO* good over the last 9 months intercepting EVERY piece of DCL mail...sheesh.

Also, she's home all day today and not going anywhere...and there's even a driveway alarm that alerts her to anyone that enters the driveway. UGH! So, chances of her missing it or not knowing they dropped it off are slim.

Still holding breath for UPS to get through to the driver to stop (delay for one day) or redirect the mail. UGH! It all comes down to this.

No, the neighbors can't help since we live in the woods and the nearest neighbor is a few blocks away. And since we just moved down from Boston this summer, we don't have any 'friends' in the area to help us with something like this.

So, come-on pixie dust! Keep that package away today!!!

Blech -- pixie dust your way. I'm nervous for you, so I can only imagine how you're feeling!

I think I'd nip this one in the bud, though, and just tell her not to touch or look at anything that comes from UPS today. Or you Jewish or Catholic? Maybe you can use some good Catholic/Jewish daughter guilt to prevent her from looking.

Tigerb - please keep us posted. Maybe mom will be involved in something when UPS guy comes...

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Lots of Pixie Dust for you.

Well, Tigerb, what was the outcome of the day? I know that you were probably crazy about it all day.

It was nice to have the day off today. I got some things accomplished - like buying the Bonine. Hopefully, though, the seas will be fine and it will not be needed.

Dee - Did the yellow thing in the sky stick around for a bit today?

Well, hopefully docs will come tomorrow. DH (Cal) is traveling out of town in the Washington, DC area this week. I really miss him when he is gone. Of course, I have our poodle, YachtSea, to keep me company.

The date is getting closer? How is everyone's shopping going for the trip? I picked up a couple of tops today.

Okay, our cruise docs came today so now I feel like it is real. This cruise was a total surprise from my hubby so I have only had 3 months to anticipate it, I can't imagine having to wait a whole year or more in anticipation........YIKES! Anyways, we had Disney do our air travel plans and after reading this board I was quite nervous about it BUT we are on a decent flight out of Richmond at 7am and into Orlando around 9am (providing there are no delays such as a couple of inches of snow which closes everything down here - LOL). We are a family of 4 and we are seated together for the most part (2 in one row and two in another). Our return flight is a little late but the kids will have school work they can do while we wait, our return flight home is not until 4pm. As long as flights are not delayed, i think we are all set! My kids are so excited and now we are starting to make signs for our door. Hope everyone else is getting their docs soon! Pixe dust to all.......see you on Feb 4!

Hey everyone we finally got our docs today now I feel like it is really close however, I am not ready with all of our clothes and stuff the boys are pretty much ready but us girls are lagging right now. Do you have a Kohl's? I was in there on Saturday, and they were carting in the kids' sundresses.

They also had kids' formalwear for 70% off -- my 3 year old is going to look like a little bridesmaid.

They didn't come! Our docs didn't come! Woopie!! The surprise prevails!!!

--> the UNdocument dance <--
 :cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:

:worship: Thank you UPS...

TigerB,

Congratulations on your document un-dance. Big relief.

The cruise isn't going to come fast enough for me. I've been battling a cold/flu for the last several days and I'm starting to think that only the warm breezes of the Eastern Caribbean will cure what ails me.

I don't know about grown up clothes, but I know Target and Children's Place have a ton of summer outfits and bathing suits out.

Debi - shopping is my middle name! Been on the prowl for a while, and scored with post-Christmas sales on two cocktail dresses ($40 total for both!) and couple of things for the kids. And my over the door shoe holder, suction cup hooks, film, rechargeable batteries... still on the list to buy is sunscreen, travel shampoo, etc. and more film, but I just got $10 value bucks from CVS so I'll be there this week to redeem it.

If Cal needs any advice on where to eat while in DC, tell him to give me a call. I work downtown and have been to quite a few places for work and can make some recommendations! PM me if you want my info.

this weekend's project: laundry :( and start packing ::yes::

We were on Deck 8 last year - I'll have to check the room number. You're going to love it!

I have to fly up to DC next week -- how freezing am I going to be??

Happy upgrade...what a wonderful surprise.

I can finally do the other half of our happy doc dance as my docs finally arrived today (five days AFTER my husband got his). Despite my growling, I'm happy to have them in hand as it makes the upcoming journey seem concrete at last. Somehow, the reservation details I printed off the web site aren't quite as resounding as our luggage tags!

I have to go to Reston, Virginia for work all next week so DH job is to make our door sign while I'm gone. I'm sure he'll be plenty lonely and probably signing in to chat with everyone.

Have to buy new sunscreen, too...bottle floating around the bathroom cabinet said it expired in 2004. Oops.
