Feb. 26, 2012 Mexican Riviera

We aren't sure what to do as far as shore excursions. We might just wander around Cabo and PV a bit on our own. However there are some very fun looking excursions so we'll have to figure this out as we get closer.

Do these fill up so fast that you have to book before the cruise or can you do it when you are on the ship?

135 days to go!

the more popular DCL organized excursions can fill up. You should research now and plan on booking as soon as you are allowed, which is based upon your DCL status and being fully paid up etc. For me I think it will be Dec 3rd or something like that. I will be ready on that date to book excusions, Palo, Spa etc.

We plan on going out on our own in Cabo. Just hop a taxi to Medrano Beach (Medano?) and hang out there. Maybe even stay on board one of the days in Cabo. As for PV, we will most likely do one of the hotel/resort pool type ones. With little ones my kids' ages, we don't have a lot of options. Can't snorkel, boating stuff is not the best idea, no dolphin stuff either.

Eric we live in East County, Santee to be exact. However, we have lived all over SD. College area, the beach, Clairemont. I have lived in SD since 1996 and hubby has been here since 2001.

It will be cool to have someone else in SD on the boat. It is a surprise of our kids and we won't tell them until we are there!! Thinking maybe Disneyland the day before and stay in a hotel as an excuse to be packing bags etc.

Really looking forward to it!!

We are considering booking this cruise.... My DH has been working in Iraq for 3 1/2 years and will finally be coming home for good the end of January, so I convinced him we should take a cruise to celebrate. We are just trying to decide if we want to book an cat9 room or 2 cat11 rooms. It will be myself, my DH, our DD Ashley - 20 and our DD Emily who will celebrate her 8th birthday the day before we sail. We are looking at plane tickets and looking into staying at the DVC timeshare at WDL for a day before and a day after the cruise.

There is alot to plan, we live in FL and usually just drive to the terminal the day of sailing. Now I have to figure fllights, hotels, transfers...... YIKES:confused3.

I hope I can figure it all out and book within the next few days. If so, we definately want to be a part of the FE group.

Hope you can join us! I bet you're thrilled to have your DH finally coming home! Thank him for his service for us!

Yes, I am thrilled that my DH is finally coming home. It has been a long 3 1/2 years. This past year was especially hard, as my 7 year old was diagnosed with ADHD and with allergies to gluten, all dairy and eggs. So I have had an interesting time trying to get her into a whole new way of eating. Its not life or death when she eats something she is allergic to, but her behaviors get way out of control and it is a nightmare to deal with her.:headache:
But at least we found out why she had such horrible meltdowns over nothing!!
So now I am ready for a Disney cruise and ready for DH to be home full time!!!

Well, it is official! We will NOT be joining you on this cruise. We will be on the Feb 19th instead as I booked flights today. It was a hard choice because you all seem so nice but this way, my son will only have to miss 2.5 days of school instead of 5. Not that I'm opposed to him missing 5 days for Disney, that's for sure!!

Hope you all have a wonderful cruise. And if you find someone hiding in your closet when you get into your stateroom, it is probably just me!! Don't be alarmed!

BTW, I will be releasing our Feb 26 stateroom in the next few days. It is a secret porthole room, so if you want it, private message me and we'll coordinate a time for me to cancel it!

I just PM'd you. We'd love to arrange a time to switch. It's a category 10, right? 10A? Thanks! Sorry you won't be cruising with us though!

Its official, we will be on this cruise. I put the deposit down last night!!!:banana::banana::banana:

We will fly in the day before, which is my DD 8th birthday. And they will spend 2 days at Disney before flying home. I book the villas at Disney's Grand California Hotel and Spa.
WHOOO HOOOO!! I am so excited.:cheer2:

Hi DeannaMKB, I see you are just down the road from us! We are just the opposite to you. We were going to be on the Feb 19th cruise but found out with DW's work schedule that it wasn't going to work. So we booked for the 26th. We will leave midweek the since the kids are off school that week anyway and get a few days of DL in before the cruise! They will miss a full week but they don't seem to mind. And the bonus is I get to celebrate my birthday for the first time somewhere other than cold, snowy Saskatchewan!

I hope were able to get decent flights. They were pretty pricey for that week when I was looking then. Have a great cruise!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! What a wonderful gift for your family once you're all back together again. I bet it will be your DD's best birthday ever to have a cruise and her Daddy home!

We are counting down the days until we set sail. Four of our friends and their children are also booked now too! It should be a great trip!

Are you interested in joining the Fish Extender exchange? Talk about it with your friends too b/c each of your cabins could join - and the kids would love it! We're a small group for the exchange so far, hoping to get more folks involved! If so, here's the FE link for our cruise!

Wow! Welcome back! So you can share all the good tips with us! :)

Sure thing!
Our last trip was our first DCL cruise and we learned so much from the boards and the Passporter book before we sailed.
If anyone has any questions, we would be happy to try and answer them.

Can you tell us what all you did at each port?

Hi goiu! Because of a storm near PV, we ended up going to Cabo for 2 days and then Ensenada for a day. There was a notice of the itinerary change once we checked in at the LA Port. Originally, we had signed up for the city tour of PV, since it was an excursion the babies (2 1/2 and 15 months) could go on as well.

Cabo: While the babies stayed on the ship at Flounders, we took a water taxi to Medano Beach and had lunch at Mango Beach Club. Afterwards, we checked out the souvenir shops along the dock. We bought a few brightly-colored, touristy Cabo t-shirts for the kids and a small bottle of Mexican vanilla. The 2nd Cabo day, we stayed on the ship.

For Cabo, I was worried the kids might feel seasick on the tender boats but it was a short 5 min ride to the dock. They would have been fine.

Ensenada: We borrowed a stroller from GS and walked 20 mins to the main shopping area. Ladies selling jewelry and hair braiding services were on every block. The only thing we ended up buying there, was a bottle of tequila that wasn’t sold in the US.

I have been trying to figure out where to stay before the cruise and how to get to and from airport - hotel - cruise terminal - disney -airport???? Does anyone have any suggestions? We land at 9:30 am the day before the cruise, so I was thinking about staying right by the port and am trying to find a decent inexpensive hotel. Then after the cruise we are staying 2 nights at DL so I need to know how to get there after the cruise. Then of course how to get back to LAX.:confused3
I would so appreciate any help!!!!

We stayed at the Sunrise hotel last time. It was $99 for the night for the four of us (came to about $112 with tax). We even saw the Wonder as it came into port the morning of our cruise! Went right by our window :cloud9:. They had a free shuttle that took us to the port at 11am. And we had their (meager but enough food) continental breakfast. I forget the name of the limo service we used to get to the hotel. But we weren't happy with them, so I wouldn't recommend them even if I could remember the name.

This time we're staying at the Double Tree, I think it is. We are paying more than we should, but they'll pick us up at the airport and we get a continental breakfast and a ride to the port. That's $250 for the four of us. I know that's more than if we do it all separate, but this will be easy.

What airport are you flying into?
