FEB 2014 Anyone else going?

Flying in from NY on Tuesday, February 18th. (Leaving 4am California time!:lmao: ) Staying until Saturday morning. Hoping they'll be no delays so we can have most of Tuesday to enjoy the parks. I'm going with my 14 year old son who basically can do the parks from rope drop until closing. Me? My stamina is not as great but I usually can match him! We've done DW during this week for several years now and it's been crowded but definitely doable. With the FastPass+ fiasco we decided to try DL this year. We aren't commandos but we definitely make good use of our fastpasses, certainly more than three a day. We're staying at Paradise Pier...First time on site so we're super psyched. Just booked the Fantasmic Dessert Viewing area for Friday night and have reservations for Blue Bayou on Wednesday. :yay::yay::yay:

24 days and counting... a lot!

Spring semester started this week for me and it's the furthest thing from my mind! All I care about right now is our first Disney trip as passholders and planning the next trip.

I've budgeted everything possible out and I think we'll be able to do this trip for 4 adults for a bit under 2k so I'm happy with that!

Exactly two weeks from tonight my boyfriend and I will be relaxing at the GCH after a full day of driving and parks. I can't wait! :hyper:

It's been hard for our whole family to focus on anything but our upcoming trip...2 weeks and change.

We'll be there in 2 weeks from today!! Decided on a later flight this time, so we won't hit the parks until Thursday. Our timing worked great, we will be going to see Stone Sour at the House of Blues on Thursday too! Can't wait! Anyone else going to the concert?

I know there are 2 different approaches - tell the kids or surprise them at the last minute. I'm more of the tell the kids in advance, have a calendar on the wall counting down the days (it's now at 25), and do Disney activities. My daughter, 5, has loved every minute talking about going to Disney the past month. We bought a 3-D Disneyland puzzle, and she put it together, with my help, she's reading the Disneyland and California Adventure maps at night, she's learning geography (where Disneyland is compared to where we live), etc.

I wondered why other people surprise their kids at the last minute? Surprise them, sure, but some people love the days leading up to something, makes the memories last longer (to me)

I was in your camp - I love planning it out with the kids and didn't understand why I would surprise them. But they've now been to DL and WDW once and did the build up thing, which was fun. My DS is at an age where anything exciting is a total distraction because he gets so excited, but he has only a rough concept of time still. We told him a week out that we were going camping at his favorite amusement park and every morning he thought it was time to go and didn't want to go on with normal activities. So this time we planned fairly last minute (3 weeks) and decided to make it a surprise. We're still debating whether we tell them in the morning, on the 1 hour flight, or let them figure it out on their own. Either way I can't wait to see their expression, because they know what they are in for!

We'll be there Feb 2-8 btw, I guess I missed this thread earlier since my planning was so last minute this time. We had planned a ski vacation but since there's no snow in Tahoe this year, Disney won out.

23 and counting! :)

I'm hoping with all this cold weather in the northeast, that there won't be any plane flights delayed/cancelled when we leave. Does anyone have any pixie dust to stop snow storms on the day we leave?

When we come back - let the whole northeast have a week long blizzard - we'll find a place to stay longer! :)

We'll be there Feb 9-17, with a couple of those days in Santa Monica. 16 days for us. Woohoo!:cool1:

We've surprised the kids twice (11/2012 for 1st WDW trip-2 days notice for them, and 9/2013 for 2nd trip-received package from Tinkerbell that morning/woke them up early) - and we enlisted their help with planning for our November 2014 WDW trip (which is a short WDW trip followed by their 1st cruise on DCL!)

For this February DL trip, they've been asking to go to DL, we've gotten the planning DVD, but distracted them with the November trip planning. This one will come out of nowhere!

The Grandparents specifically asked that they get to surprise the kids at Goofy's Kitchen, which I can't help but love the idea. My parents haven't been to DL since the late 70s, so a lot should be new to them. I was trying to explain FP to my dad last night, I don't think he truly understood.

I'm hoping to make it until the Thursday before we leave (we leave 2/17)...but I'm so excited, not sure I can hold it in much longer.

Just hoping this midwest weather allows us to fly out!

I love that your parents are surprising them at Goofys. That is awesome.

We leave the day before you, but don't land until 11pm PST!! (2am our time!). I am hoping the weather cooperates as well. Last Feb we got sacked with that huge snow storm and no one could get out. Hopefully this year will be better.

We haven't told our kids yet either and it is so hard! Luckily they must be fairly easy to dupe because a few times Dh and I have slipped and said something and then realize what we said and look around quickly at all the kids but they never seem to catch on. :confused3 Either that or they are just really good at ignoring us! :lmao:

30 days for us... Cannot wait...

Ha, this is when my family is coming from Boise for a week, in the parks Feb. 24-28. So excited, despite all the ride refurbs :p. We have boys ages 5, 4, and 1 where the oldest two went in 2012 and still remember.

A true "Warrior" would not break down 4 days before the trip. See if you can hold out and tell them on the 17th. :goodvibes

We are going Feb 3-7. Haven't told the kids! Getting excited and secretly packing bags in the basement.

I can't surprise my daughter the morning we leave. We'll leave at 5:30 AM and she's MEAN when I wake her up!! :rotfl: She'll be delightfully pleasant if she knows ahead why she's waking up...

That's fun! We did that on our last trip!! The kids knew we were going, they just thought we had a lot longer to wait! We woke them up early in the morning and said "It's TIME!!" It was great!! Have a blast!! :thumbsup2

I'm surprising my daughter because she begged for a surprise trip!!

She does know she's going, she just thinks she has to wait an additional six months.

Can't wait to surprise her the day before we go!! I wonder if I'm even going to sleep the night before the reveal. :yay:
