Feb 20, 2011 - Presidents' Week - Mexican Riviera

Thanks Trish -

You are fine with your FE plan. A number of people purchased FEs from EBAY. I made mine. They are not too difficult. There are instructions for making a no sew FE here - http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30302583&postcount=609. I modified this a little for someone and used felt squares for the pocjets - that way I didn't need to turn the fabric under.

There is also info here on FEs http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607 and here http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33184281&postcount=2

These links also have pictures showing how people decorate their door with magnets - make sure to use magnets - you can't use tape. There is also a link on the main cruise board that has a number of magnet designs and if you want, there are designers who can personalize the graphic for you.

Most people do something for each person. You might decide to do everything the same or to make things specific for some individuals. It's totally up to you.

I see your post count is only at 3. When you get it up to 10 you will be able to use the PM feature - PM me with your email address if you want an Excel or PDF copy of the complete list

Thanks again for the info

Elaine

I just want to make sure I have all of the facts for Fish Extenders: I can make my own or by one off of ebay. I need to bring a small item for every man, woman, and child in the group. I deliever these items at some point on the cruise. Is there anything else I need to know?

The only thing I would add is to put a little sticker or tag on the item saying who it is from. :sail:

Great add, Deb - I always do that and most people have done that on the cruises I've been on especially when things are in a goodie bag. I highly recommend doing it if you have anything edible or something like people apply like lotion. If you are doing small things like pens, sunglasses, stickers without a goodie bag it won't hurt but may be more of a chore than it's worth.

For those of us in the FE I have a request. If possible could I get names from the families (last, first) and favorite characters? It might help me figure out some gifts. You could PM me or email to vetbeth1 at gmail dot com.

I can't wait to meet everybody- less than 2 months now.

To beachdreamer- my understanding is you can do individual or family gifts, whatever you would like. I am sure we will all appreciate whatever arrives.

Just thought I'd add what I am doing....

I am doing a gift per child, they each get their own bag of stuff. I am also doing a gift item per stateroom, more for the adults.

I hope that is ok.

I ordered my FE and pillowcases from ebay. I can't wait to get them.

:)

I'd be happy to add names and characters to the FE list

I'm trying to figure out how we are getting from the airport to our hotel (Doubletree San Pedro) since we arrive the evening before the cruise. Anyone one know what the best method of transportation would be for the four of us?

You're probably best off taking a shuttle (Super Shuttle, Prime Time Shuttle, etc.). There are occasionally coupons for Super Shuttle so might keep your eyes open for them.

Yes, it offers a shuttle to the port from the hotel, which is why we chose it, but we need to get from the airport to the hotel, and then back to the airport after we get off the ship. We plan on using the shuttle to get to the ship the day of the cruise.

Are you flying into LAX, LGB or John Wayne?

Oop! Guess I should have read the post better. We are taking execuar from LAX to the crown plaza where we're staying. This is primarily because it gives me a couple extra hands at baggage claim since it's just the kids and I and they are NO help.

I was going to do DCL transfers back to LAX again so I did,'t have to deal with luggage. But now I see that they don't work it like DME so I will most probably book them back to LAX as well. I can't see spending the exxtra money when it really doesn't take away any of the headache!

Is anyone driving down? Are you parking at the cruise terminal or staying at one of the hotels and leaving your vehicle there? Is it $12 to park per day?

We are driving from Sacramento on Friday and will go to the Disneyland Friday afternoon and Saturday. I'm undecided on whether I should park my van at the cruise terminal or change hotels for Saturday to closer to the boat?

thoughts?

We live a few minutes from the cruise ship terminal, so we are parking at the terminal- it is $12/ day to park.

At that price, it may be more cost effective for you to find a hotel/ shuttle package in San Pedro.

silence/bruins - Right now our plan is to leave at o-dark-thirty in the morning from Sac and get to the port about 11ish to avoid having to pay for a hotel. I was reading some trip reports last night that got me thinking about the option of park and cruise. Now I'm really conflicted. (Co-worker just told me they had the Grape Vine shut down today which really has me thinking that driving down the day before might be a smart idea.)

Yep, I think they shut down the Grapevine yesterday and are keeping it shut until tomorrow. There was snow in Valencia which is just wild (first snow in 20 yrs). If the weather looks bad, I suppose you could cut over to the coast and drive down that way before your cruise.

What about the tule fog? That can really slow down a drive too.

dh and I are discussing the hotel option. The snow concerns me, the tule fog I'm very familiar with so while I'd prefer to avoid it, we have driven in it before so we know what we're getting ourselves into. dh feels we should go reservation-less and if the weather looks bad the week of then we book last minute reservations somewhere on the LA side of the grapevine, he doesn't really care where. As I say this though I just walked by and saw him on kayak so we'll see where we end up.

Ah, the fun discussions. :p I'll let you know who wins in the end. ;)

We have AP's, so I can't see being that close to the parks and NOT visit! Especially when we are getting ready for a Disney cruise! :) Plus, the kids are out of school the entire week, it is easier for me to pull them out for a day at the beginninng of our trip vs. the end when everyone will be back.

I may do the park and stay at the Double Tree for Saturday night and keep my other reservation near the park for Friday.
