I hate to admit it, but I really like the look of these. I teach at a high school, and I hear the kids talking about it, so I'm always reluctant to do anything that the kids I teach are doing. I think as soon as school is out next week, though, that I'm going to go ahead and get some put in. If anybody has any experience with them, I'd love to know if they really are as easy to take care of as I've heard.

I haven't done the feathers yet but I have done hair tinsel which is fun and cheaper than the feathers.

Just be prepared for people to play with your hair all the time ;)

Do you think they're professional looking? That's my issue -- I don't think they make anyone come off as appearing professional.

I don't think they would be professional enough for an attorney or anything, but I teach in a small rural school that has a very casual dress code for teachers, so I'm not concerned about that. Plus, it's summer vacation in a week, so I'm good either way. I guess it depends on the atmosphere of the work that you do.

They definitely would not cut it in our schools (public or private)! Regardless of whether it was close to summer break or not. That's why I asked. Personally, I don't think I would be able to take anyone wearing them seriously. JMO.

So where you live, teachers can't dress how they please and style their hair how they please, even during summer break?

I just googled them, because I had no idea what they were. I think they look fun!

If you want to put them in for the summer....I say go for it. What's the worse thing that can happen? You don't like them? That's easy to fix, take them out.

As far as hair goes, it would be considered "extreme hair" at both of my former schools (one public, one private). Any "unusual" colors or "radical cuts" are off limits in both schools as well.

As far as wardrobe, no bare midriffs, no bare shoulders, no super short skirts, no shorts in both public and private. No capris or jeans in private schools.

I've seen teachers sent home for wardrobe and hair issues in the past at both public and private schools.

You can do what you please on vacation with hair and clothes as long as you're not teaching summer session. However, our schools are currently on trimesters, so summer vacation really doesn't exist anymore. I noticed you said you are still working, so I figured you were going to do it while still in school.

If you get it, do it when school is out. I wouldn't wear it to work. (The kids will laugh at you for one thing; they hate to see teachers trying to be "cool.")

Apparently teachers aren't allowed to do anything "fun" for fear it's not professional. :headache: Oh well, only 18 more years until retirement!

On the bright side, in 18 years they'll probably be back in style! :cool1: GO YOU!!

Oh please. I said it was my opinion that they didn't look professional. Get them if you want. What do I care? And why do you care what I think about them? :sad2:

We have one more week to go, and I doubt I'd be able to find time to get it done until school's out next week. We basically have to follow the same dress code as our students. That entails no bare midriffs or shoulders and shorts or skirts can be no more than three inches above the knee. We also have a no visible piercings other than ears rule, but I don't know of anything about hair colors or cuts. We've had students and teachers with red highlights in their hair, and nobody thought anything about it.

I'm not talking about having the look of Steven Tyler with the feathers or anything, just a couple of natural colored feathers that would look a lot like highlights. I think that even if school was still in session when I got them, nobody would care.

I actually think they are really fun. Professional or not :)

A teenager I know has one that is just about the same coloring as her hair - I didn't even notice it at first. She said they last about 2 months (if you don't use heat products on your hair daily) and it was only $15 to have put in.

I'm considering getting one for summer, too, but something closer to my haircolor like hers so it blends in from afar.

It's temporary, and cheap, so why not try it out? Don't end up liking it, or have some professional event to attend, you can have it removed.

I think they are cute and plan to get some in dd's hair. One of my co-workers (office, community college) has a feather in her hair. The color isn't a lot different from her hair and she can style her hair in a way that she can sort of keep it hidden during the day.

I don't. Maybe I'm just a little touchy tonight since we have to go to school tomorrow to make up a snow day. :sad1: Don't they know I have important things to do, like get my hair feathered? Oh well, at least I was in WDW when we were out for snow!

I'm a redhead. I'd love to have a look like this, but there's no way I have the guts to do it.

I'll probably go with something more along the lines of this, but with a lot fewer feathers.

I'm a teacher in a small rural district too, and I could definitely get away with this. One of my students has one right now, less extreme than the pic above. It's pretty subtle and looks cute.

Maybe it's because we're so small, but this is definitely not true in my school. The girls love to talk to us about any new clothes we wear. A new hairstyle on a teacher seems to be an exciting event.

The teachers at my daughters school have them (both feathers and tinsel). In fact it was one of the fifth grade teachers that clued me into them in the first place.

I don't work in a school but I do work in a hospital and when I went in for my annual evaluation today my boss said she thought it was cute and asked me where I got it done.

Only you can really know how something like this will go over at your work so I would make my decision based on the work environment at your school.
