Fear the Walking Dead - anyone?

I think that when we see the rioting we are believing it to be on a grander scale than it was. KWIM? I think it was a small portion of the city and a small population of people not the huge ones we imagine. Or at least that i what I think.

I'm enjoying it.
I think the problem for those wanting to see the progression of the virus is that from these characters point of view they can't. There being kept in the dark so it's keeping us (the viewer) in the dark.

And I could see the gov. Acting in just such a way. Before hurricane Katrina they drove through neighborhoods in south Alabama with markers wanting to write your name and SS# on your arm so they could identify your remains. During a tropical storm -I can't remember which one. They drove through harassing people outside of their homes, stating their was a mandatory curfew, it barely rained. We all witnessed what happened in NO after Katrina, so I can imagine in a greater disaster such as this, that the gov and especially the individual agencies will start to break down.

I did, but the authorities didn't gather up everyone with health issues and take them to an undisclosed location. Nor did they shoot down people in the streets. That's what I mean by this show going off track with the government conspiracy plot. I would rather see more about how the disease developed, where it came from, how it spread, etc. Just my opinion, but I think that would have made this a lot more interesting TV series
Well, the Boston bombing is not exactly like a zombie apacolypse, so you can't really compare apples to apples. I used it as a general example of police going a little bat poop crazy when something happens. I can see them blockading off a supposed safe area and weeding out anyone who may be "unsafe". As for killing uninfectwd people, sure. People trying to run away, maybe towards the safe zone. People trying to protect their sick loved ones. Lots of reasons. Plain old scared and freaked out. Military are people too.

cant get myself around these characters.....the only one I seem to like is the drug addict son.....everyone else is like Dull.....they need to move the soty on a bit faster...hope they do that when it comes back on again...

I got behind but caught up last night! Haven't read all the missed pgs on the thread though.
I agree about not loving any of the characters. I think Travis is my favorite right now. I don't particularly dislike anyone, bu not loving anyone. Not sure how I feel about this side of Mr. Salazar.

I had a BRILLIANT plan for them last night though-came to me in the middle of the night when I wasn't sleeping (because of a giant belly and zombies). They should totally move into DL....fenced in, delicious food, Walt's 2nd floor apartment, sweet rides if they can figure out how to turn them on...perfect! The only way it would be better is if it had DW's tunnel system. Fingers crossed for season 2!! ;)

I am still watching, but I don't love it. I will say I didn't love TWD season 1 either. Maybe I will grow to love the characters, but right now I am not invested in them and feel they rushed the military storyline. It might be more believable /understandable if we had 2 more episodes of building up to where we are
It seems too rushed, but still a little boring too. Hopefully next season will be better.

I am intrigued by the new guy who is with Nick. At first I assumed he was a bad guy, but then he kept them from taking him, and now I'm not so sure. I like his honesty "I didn't save you, I obligated you" :-)

I was wondering what he has up his sleeve. He let them take the other man, who was mentally weak and totally broken down. But he saved Nick, who is a fighter. I wonder if he is trying to put a strong group together????

I'm disappointed and bored with this show. I'll keep watching because ... well ... zombies! lol. Characters are all bleah.

Not only let them take him, he broke the guy further, so that they would take him. I have no idea what his game is, but I am now very interested to find out :-)

I think he is an bad character. Who, one that cares for human lives, would tear a man (with a family) down, and throw him to the wolves. Seriously!!!!

First part of the episode and I was saying 'this is stupid' over and over, thinking I wasn't going to watch anymore. So anti-military. But by the end, I changed my mind and may watch now that I think the military is all going to run off (home to their own loved ones). Still don't like Travis. Am also intrigued to see what's up with the guy with Nick.

DD and I had the same reaction to him - It is Governor 2.0! He's the most intriguing character so far. The main protagonists all annoy me - a pacifist in the zombie apocalypse, an enabler/martyr extraordinaire, two spoiled brat kids still clinging to their own drama despite the world ending around them, etc. No one in the original family is even the least bit likable, IMO, and the Salazars only started getting interesting after the soldiers took the wife. I'm hoping that will change as the story moves forward - I hated Carol at first too, and now she's one of my favorites.

Hmmm.....no thoughts on the torture? I have mixed feelings on it. I get why he did it, but it still skeeved me out.

That was my thought!

I'm wondering if we're all disappointed because the characters aren't already pro-zombie killers. That's who we tend to love (michonne <3) They're still just normal people and that makes them seem boring compared to the ones we're used to. Interesting to see who they evolve into once they're out of their "safe" zone.

I didn't like it either, especially since he said he would tell them everything, and he did it anyway. But then when we saw him say he had never heard of Cobalt, and then we found out he did know, it turned out that it apparently was needed to get the information.

That was my thought!

I agree with this also, they are still just pretty normal people, and they will change and evolve. That is one of the most interesting parts of TWD to me, is how they have all changed since it all started.

So, are the arena doors going to bust open or is someone going to open them? I'm guessing that will be at the end of next week, because once those doors open, it's all really going to break loose!

I don't think it's so much a conspiracy, just reality of what would happen. I'm sure the government would declare martial law in a situation like this. Shooting survivors down in the middle of the street? I don't know, but I could totally see that happening. I understand why they are removing the very sick. They don't want them dying in the safe zone and then spreading the virus.

I agree. So far we haven't seen anything that doesn't make sense.

Shooting the uninfected in the street? Imagine the scene: A bunch of 19 & 20 year old National Guard soldiers or reservists who have never seen combat, trying to deal with the dead rising up and eating the living. Civil unrest in pockets around the city, fueled by lack of information and misperception of some of the early incidents (like the viral video of the police shooting the "homeless" person) as well as the usual social tensions. A panicked uninfected, running away from walkers or towards soldiers who represent salvation, not obeying hastily shouted instructions. Yeah, I can see how that would result in some unintended casualties.

Remember, at this point they don't know how it spreads. They know it isn't just the bite, but they have no way of knowing that it isn't a conventional exposure-incubation-onset model. From that perspective, it make sense to detain or even eliminate those that are "exposed". When they took the neighbor's husband, it was because he had the blood of the infected all over him. For any known illness that would be a risk factor for spread, and at least at that point they seemed to be trying for containment.

Even removing the ill and unstable from the community makes sense. They do know that every dead person turns, and the soldiers are outnumbered both by the fearful living and the walking dead. They can't risk the panic that would ensue if someone turned in the midst of a safe zone. Even if the walker was put down easily, the effect of the public realizing that it will happen to all of them could destroy what safety they've established. And clearly they aren't just killing those people; they're taking them to that holding facility where presumably they're trying to learn more about the infection.

I think this week's episode did a lot to pull things together and start moving the story forward. I had a hard time getting into the first few episodes but as they've started showing more of what's going on outside of the neighborhood it is getting better.

What was that building that Daniel was standing in front of at the end of the episode?

I think part of the problem with not caring about the characters yet is because they haven't had to deal with reality yet. They are still living like everything is normal. They have food, water, shelter, and as far as they know safety. They don't have to sleep with one eye open at night. They're just hanging around waiting for the government to get the power back and things will go back to normal. I think once they start having to make the hard choices they will start to develop more and we can start to get a true understanding of their primal character.

I also wondered if the guy with Nick was from the airplane that went down. He was dressed like a businessman.
