Fear of heights & soarin'

You just described my experience perfectly!!! We also were in the first row. If you are in the rows behind, can you see the people in front of you?

I haven't rode Soarin at WDW but I have been on it at DL. When I rode I was on the 2nd row, so when we "lifted off" I was in the middle of the screen. By being in the 3rd row, I think you are just lower to the ground (at the bottom of the screen) not really behind anyone during the ride. However, you can see peoples feet :rotfl:

Fun fun ride, can't wait to ride again in WDW.

We just rode soarin yesterday and it was great! Our DD5 and DD4 went also. We ended up riding it 4 times! If you do get a little nervous just look around. If you are not in the front row, you can see people's feet in front of dangling. Not enough to ruin your experience but it may be enough to bring you "back to reality". You can also look along the sides and you kind of see where the screen ends. I would at least give it a try! It is an amazing experience!

I would love to try Soarin but am afraid I will get a panic attack. If the seats didn;t go off the ground I would probably get through it. But being off the ground and soarin over a bridge would be too much height for me. It sounds like a great ride though.

We are planning a trip for Oct - and I can't wait to try out Soaring... but question - my mom will be with me and she is a bigger lady -- are there restrictions on it? I would love for her to go on it - but I know there are sometimes issues with belts and stuff fitting? Some parks have larger seats and belts but wans't sure if Soaring has that option. I would love to let her try this -- she would get such a kick out of it I think.

Thanks
Laura

I rode it today for the first time. I'm not fond of simulator rides but thought I would give it a chance. It wasn't bad, it isn't "jerky" like some simulator rides. I was in the third row on the end and I think it helped that I knew I wasn't way up.

I have a severe fear of heights and was very nervous about riding. However, I used the strap that is supposed to be for the little kids (it fit fine and I am not particularly slim) which did help me some. The very beginning was a bit of a problem because I REALLY do not like bridges and I have driven over the Golden Gate bridge and HATED it. I think I stopped breathing for a few moments and I was holding on REALLY tight - but then I managed to convice myself that it wasn't real and that I wasn't THAT high off the ground (it helped that I couldn't see how high - I have been known to panic 3 steps up on a ladder!) and I actually enjoyed the last 1/2 or 2/3 of the ride. I will ride it again when we go in October, but I might close my eyes for the first bit!

Someone mentioned it is in the dark..how dark and for how long? Is it as dark as Sound Dangerous? I know once the movie starts I will probably be fine but how long does the darkness last? Also, for those of you who have claustrophobia do you feel closed in on this ride. thanks

Not it is not as dark as Sounds Dangerous. The darkness in the room lasts the entire ride but you really don't notice it because you are watching the screen.

The hardest part is the initial feeling when you start going up and the film begins. Only embarrassment kept me from screaming "I've changed my mind!!" I think next time I'll try for a different row-#1 goes the highest, and wouldn't ya know, that's what I got! But it's so well done, by the end I wanted to go on it again. Once you get past that initial "Whoaa!!" feeling, it's great.

I think it's different for everyone. I'm very afraid of heights and loved Soarin'. However, my friend was very nervous about being up so high and didn't like it as much.

Although it is up high, I couldn't tell. I tried to look down and see just how high up I was just as the ride started, but all I could see was clouds. And after that, I was simply too fascinated by the ride to try and look down!

I wouldn't worry about the height on Soarin' - this is a calm and enjoyable ride!

Have fun in WDW!

DH and I rode Soarin' twice last Saturday. The first time, I warned the woman sitting next to me that I might scream! Her son said something about, "If you lean forward and look down, you can see the bottom edge of the screen where it connects with the floor" and I used that to ground me a bit when I was feeling "too high." It's an incredible ride and not to be missed!

We all thought soarin' was fantastic but my DH who is afraid of heights was clinging on for dear life the entire time.

We rode Soarin 4 times last week. My DH is seriously afraid of heights, but he was okay in the second and third rows (we avoided row 1 the first 3 times). Our last ride we were assigned Row 1 and DH decided to try it, but it really shook him up. He'll never do row 1 again, but I'm sure he will be back in the lower rows.

I liked Row 2 the best, myself, but I liked the higest row, too. Heights don't bother me with a seatbelt!!

i rode soarin in DCA in dec and am usually petrified of heights (well anything i can fall out of really... )

(......i don't like rollercoasters that take u upside down because of it, but i rode the Matterhorn mt at DL with no ish for example......).

But i found soaring was ok, i was a lil freaked when they took us off the ground, and we were in the front row too....! but i oriented myself every so often to the side of the screen and then i was fine.....
