FDNY goes yellow(pics)

Hi all,
So the FDNY got a great idea.They decided to spend some money and see if yellow turn out pants are any different or better than the normal ones we wear.So i got to be the first test dummy.Yes it's true i was sound a sleep.

Also a pic of our new zero miliage car at my fire house.I actually got to drive the chief around the other day,it was the first time the new car was used and i was scared i would be the first to wreck it too.

The color doesn't make the pants (coat or helmet) any better except that it's easier to see. We went to yellow up at Suffern H & L years ago and it does make a difference. They don't stay bright yellow very long. A few working fires and they show the dirt and grime, but it's not a fashion show, either. A lot of guys can't wait to get them dirty so they don't look like a rookie. Of course, we both know you can't see anything inside a smoke-filled building, even with a light.

DH's turnout gear is a grey blue, but it has a TON of reflective tape on it. He's an EMT--so doesn't go into fires, more worried about not getting hit while responding to MVA's.

Hey brother,
Are they PBI, cause if they are we have them in our department and let me tell you they are lighter even when they get soaked. I know in the FDNY black turnouts are traditional and most won't give them up but We too had black turnouts and once I tried the new PBI I was hooked!!
