FD upgrade question

I'm sure this has been asked before, and I've tried to search but didn't come up with anything for the first few pages.
We leave in 10 days and have the FD for the first time so I have zero experience with it. We just have the QS right now, but I want to upgrade to the regular DP but want to do it as close to leaving as I can. Any idea how much time I need to allow for that?

I am curious as to why you would want to wait to upgrade? Be aware that you are 10 days out from your vacation going during free dining and don't have any ADR'S. You will be limited at this time to find the restaurants and times that you would prefer as a lot of people have made dining reservations at 180 days out. If you do decide to upgrade I would check first to see if you can get into the restaurants that you want and then make the decision to upgrade. Of course you can keep checking the dining reservation portion of the Disney web site because people cancel all of the time.

I think you can do it as "late" as check-in.

You must make all changes to dining no less than 72 hours before your check in dad.

I agree with this poster completely - you should really check (and even make ) ADRs NOW ! Places you want may or may not be available at this late date.

Also I haven't got any personal experience at upgrading last minute but I've always read you need to do it at least 72 hours in advance (as a PP mentioned)

I assume you mean checkin "date" and not dad??? lol.

I agree with the pp....i wouldnt wait because you might have difficulty getting adrs.

Another thing to think of is change fees. While typically, if changing more than a week or two out, and upgrading the cost of the package, these are waived, if you make the change too close to your check-in they typically will assess the fee even if upgrading. Granted, 9-10 days out may be too late to avoid this, but it's certainly something to think about.

You can't upgrade at check-in. On a package reservation (and you have one if you've got free dining) you must make your changes no later than 3 days prior to arrival. and watch out for the change fee, as Cafeen mentioned - they may not assess the entire fee for changing this close to arrival but maybe $15 or so.

I DO have ADR's, lol...should have made that clear I guess. I was waiting as long as possible just to push it back on my credit card bill. ($400.00+)
Sounds like I need to do it pretty quick I guess...months ago I asked the CM when I booked and she said you could do it any time, but I didn't ask specifically about this close to check in time.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the input...I couldn't hold any longer on the WDW line yesterday so I figured I'd ask here. :)

I'm so glad the hear that you have your ADR's as you know you have everything you want. We booked bounceback last Sept for this Sept and upgrade from QS to DDP as our grown children and spouses are coming. I believe it was an addition $16 per person per night extra. Have a great trip and enjoy the food.
