Faxing Room Requests - Myth or Magical

I read once on this board where somebody created a thread stating that if a resort receives a faxed room request, it will be filed in the recycle bin. This is not correct.

We called CRO to make our reservation for our rooms and only asked for non-smoking due to my being asthmatic. One week before we left, my husband faxed a request asking for connecting rooms, one being a corner, third floor in building 5.

When we check in at 10:45 AM, I asked if our rooms were already assigned. I was told by the CM that there was a note on our rooms that they could not be moved. I asked him if that was standard procedure and he told me that there were some special requests made and our rooms were being held to fill those requests.

We were assigned rooms numbers 5347 and 5348 (connecting) at POFQ. These were in building 5, on the third floor and our room, 5348, was on the corner. :goodvibes

PS - I also asked at the resort upon check-out, when thanking them for the wonderful rooms, if they still received a lot of faxes and was told they do. Most of the faxes duplicate what is in the computer from the time of booking, but sometimes last minutes requests are made by fax.

Yes, some resorts actually make the effort to fill requests, but, I noticed when its busy, like Summer Months, its hard to get the rquests, like room location. Non-smoking is usually NO problem. ;)

I doubt a CM would tell you that they ignore faxes. But it has been reported that most resorts are ignoring the faxes. If your requests are noted in your reservation no need to fax.

You need to keep in mind they are only requests so it doesn't ruin your vacation if they aren't granted. You can also ask when you check in.

Hmmm...don't recall insinuating otherwise. :confused3

People with asthma and allergies to smoke can be given guaranteed non smoking rooms. I have been told this by at least 4 CMs and have never had a problem getting a NS room.

Drives my SO crazy since he smokes, but tough for him, I'd incredibly allergic to smoke so I win.

When I faxed my requests for November 2004 (Poly) and WL (2003) my requests were granted and my rooms were spectacular. When I didn't fax May 2005 (BC) - all I got was nonsmoking and I had to change my assigned room at check in. Personally, I am going to fax the next time - if it ends up in the trash - at least I tried.

We always go during busy times, because that is the only time we can go. I have always faxed my room requests and have always had them granted...down to the last detail.

Always NS (allergies/Asthma), building and floor. Sometimes room location, but never a specific room number.

In 2003 I sent a really cute and fun fax to the CR and was rewarded with a tower room looking at the MK. My children were delighted. Nothing amazing happened last time (but I got my faxed requests), but I'll always send my fax.

Everything here is either someone's opinion (not always nice :confused3 ), someone's experience (not always good :sad1: ) or some kind of rumor. Do what's best for you - and do let us know if you get your requests :flower:

Have a great trip.

When we went last October I faxed our room request about one week before went. We were staying at Poly LVC. I requested third floor, about center of the building with a view of the castle. We didn't hinge our vacation happiness on the request because, after all, it was just a request.

We checked in early, about 10:00 a.m. and the wonderful CM (Marilyn) told us that our room wasn't ready yet. I asked her what room we were assigned and she told me that they were not allowed to give out that information in advance, just in case something happened and we had to be changed to another room. I explained that I had faxed a room request and she just smiled and said, "Go enjoy the parks for a little while...and don't worry!!! We received your fax."

When we went back to the POLY later in the day we were absolutely thrilled with the room. It was third floor, center of the building and it had a full view of the castle!!! We definitely received pixie dust!!!

I will always fax a request. I feel certain that if they can grant the request they will!

I'm staying at the WL in October. Where would I find the number to fax a room request? Thanks for your help and experience! :cool1:

Could you call in your reqyest a few days ahead of time? Will they honor it?
:confused3

I found all the information about faxing on AllEarsNet:

www.allearsnet.com

Click on the accomodations link there is a fact sheet for each resort. At the bottom of the fact sheet there is contact information, including fax numbers, for all resorts. The fax number for the POLY is 407-824-3174.

I can't answer the question about calling. I've just always heard that you should fax it.

All calls go to a central phone center and not the individual resorts. I would not recommend calling.

I find that giving my requests, which are never very specific, and certainly never to the point of a certain building, room etc. to CRO is more than enough.

I do know (not rumor or opinion) that if you are staying at one of the DVC resorts, it has been printed in the member newsletter that they will not accept faxes or calls. You are asked to make your requests at the time of reservation.

I am sure this is the case in many situations, however many who post here, myself, Tikiman and others have friends who work for Disney and many of our comments are based entirely on fact. Others are Travel Agents and have been given this info by WDW Travel and many are CM themselves.

I have been told many times by friends that work at Disney that they just do not have the time anymore to read through hundreds of faxes.

I guess there can always be the exceptions, but I was told they truly appreciate the guest who lets CRO handle the situation and does not give them any additional work since they are so under staffed at this time.

However most of my friends work at the deluxe resorts and we do not stay at the moderates or value so I guess there could be some differences.

I do know that WL and the DVC resorts released an official policy they would not honor faxes and please do not send them.

We fax requests about 3 days prior to arrival and we've been given our request every single time! I don't expect it, I just wish for it and it happens. Must be the Disney magic.

Anna- do you have a copy of the letter you sent? I wrote one but I'm not so sure it came across the way I wanted! :earsboy:
Thanks!
