Thought I would share some good ol Canadian cheer on Canada Day. Found this article on the Canadian AOL site
Favourite Canadian Expressions
Many feel as though an identifiable Canadian culture is non-existent. Nothing can be further from the truth. From maple leafs to beaver tails, our rich heritage is very much alive. Grab a Molson beer, chow down on some poutine and take a look at a list of some of our favourite Canadian expressions:
"Eh"
Ah yes. This infamous Canadian word has become the basis of all Canadian communications and is perhaps the most recognizable Canadian expression worldwide. It is a very useful word that changes meaning depending on the tone or slight differences in exclamation. For example:
Eh? = What do you think?
Eh? = You're joking!
Eh? = Want some Tim Hortons?
"Hoser"
Mention the word 'hoser' to a group of Canadians and immediately someone will start describing a tuque-wearing, flannel-obsessed relative holed up in some small town in Northern Ontario. Otherwise said, a 'hoser' is someone who is unsophisticated. Interestingly enough, some Canadians define a 'hoser' as someone who is a good friend.
"Clicks"
A cool word Canadians use instead of saying 'kilometres'. For example: "We're 25 clicks away from the nearest beer store."
"Two-four"
A favourite among party-goers and teenagers alike, 'two-four' refers to a case of beer containing 24 bottles.
"Tuque"
This woollen cap worn mainly in the winter is an absolute must-have of Canadian fashion. Canadians practically come out of the womb with one attached to their heads.
"Tortière"
A staple of French-Canadian diet, tortière is essentially a pie made with three different kinds of ground meat.
"Poutine"
Another French-Canadian speciality. A delicious mixture of french fries, gravy and cheese. When done properly, the freshest fries, thick-as-molasses gravy and cheese curds are served together in a white Styrofoam bowl.
"Cougar"
Cougar refers to women over 30 who still frequent nightclubs in hopes of finding true love, or at least a person to love for the night.
"Take off"
Another way of saying 'you're kidding.'
