Just wondering what are your favorite things to order at Jiko? Appetizers, entrees, and desserts!

Thanks!

I love the flatbreads for an appetizer...any of them are great. For an entree, I will generally get a fish dish of some kind, as they really know how to prepare fish perfectly at this restaurant. I have had the filet with mac & chesse, which is a signature dish for Jiko, and although the filet was very tender and prepared just as I had requested, I thought this dish was too salty for my taste. For dessert, I have a hard time passing up the pistachio creme brulee.

Curried Samosas-Mmmmm. I found them to be really delicious.

The BBQ Short rib - this thing was HUGE! It was the big hunk of meat on the bone. You'd think it wouldn't be enough but it sure filled me up. The sauce was very tasty. My husband had the lamb, he liked it, but he wouldn't get it again, and he's loves lamb. My dd had the chicken, to me it tasted exactly like the Mara's chicken. I liked it. We were going to try to filet with mac and cheese, but we couldn't for the life of us figure out what was so African about Macaroni and Cheese.

Definetly get the Pistachio Creme Brulee. That was really good.

Very similar here- I always have the BBQ coffee chicken flatbread for appy, filet with mac and cheese for main course and pistachio creme brulee for dessert.

Great suggestions! I just added Jiko to our ADRs. We will be at AKL next week and I couldn't see not going there!

There are 2 dishes we can't stop talking about from our last dinner at Jiko:
1- Appetizer: Fire Roasted Mussels. The mussels are in broth with lamb meatballs. It comes with a DIVINE toasted bread for soaking up the sauce. The sauce was wonderful, and so were the meatballs and mussels, but I wish the toast were available separately. I think it was fig bread or something like that. Very unique and tasty dish
2- Entree: Swahili Curried Shrimp. It was like a shrimp stew, so darn tasty! The coconut rice it was poured over gave a nice fragrant base, but not too sweet.

DH got the scallops, and while they were good, he said he would try something else next time. I think they just weren't as fabulous as the other 2 dishes, but if he had them somewhere else, he would ahve raved about them. The kids meals were decent, nothing special. I don't remember what we got for dessert. Now I am wondering why we didn't schedule this for our upcoming trip.:confused3

Oh yeah, probably because we will be trying the new place at AKL: Sanaa! :thumbsup2

Appetizers: My favorite is probably the Taste of Africa but when we go with a group of 4 or more, we usually get a sampler platter that includes a bit of many of the appetizers. The flatbreads are all very good too.

The soups here are to die for. My favorite dish that I've ever had at any WDW restaurant, including multiple visits to v&a's, has been the chantarelle soup with pumpkin seeds I had here.

Entrees: Honestly, I like the appetizers better than the entrees. I have not been wowed by any of the fish dishes I have had here. Maybe I'm just too full after all of the appetizers/soups. My fave has been the filet with mac n cheese (although I'm not a huge beef eater).

Desserts: I know I'm in the minority but I do not like the desserts here. I really disliked the pistacchio creme brulee.

I have only eaten here once, but it one of my favorite restaurants at the World.

We wanted to try something different, so we got the ostrich appetizer, and it was soooooooo delicious!!! I was afraid at first, but it was worth it.

Also, my DH and I both got the filet with mac n cheese for our meal which was very good as well.

As for the desserts, these we my least favorite of the meal. We got creme brulee and some kind of other dessert with lavender ice cream. They were both too strong of flavors for me, but DH enjoyed them.

PS. Take a chance and try the ostrich appy, its great!!

Another vote for the BBQ chicken flatbread and filet with macaroni. My entire family loves that meal. When we ask our kids which 2TS meal they love most, they always choose Jiko.

That being said, none of us are fans of their desserts - especially the pistacchio creme brulee - and we normally find ourselves later in the evening eating icecream at Beaches. :goodvibes

The Taste of Africa appie was awesome, and nothing beats the filet with mac and cheese

Two times I have tried the mac n cheese/filet, but I think the short ribs are a vastly superior dish. I had a pressed pot of Eros tea with my dessert. It was fabulous (I have purchased two boxes of Eros to have at home since then) I had the strange lemon dessert which was really very good if you like tart lemon. We thought the Taste of Africa was a bit over rated. We liked one of our flatbreads--not a fan of the BBQ flatbread.

And the Black Olive Flatbread and a nice wine and you got the everything you could want.

Here are a few things we have had and loved....

Appetizers
Pokanoket Farm Seared Ostrich Filet
Barbecue Chicken Flatbread

Entree
Kenyan Coffee Barbecue Beef Short Ribs
Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon (with macaroni & cheese)

Dessert
House-Made Meyer Lemon Curd
Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake
Pistachio Creme Brulee

My favorite entree at Jiko (heck, my favorite anywhere in WDW) is the halibut with sweet potato crispies. I've had the pistachio creme brulee twice-the first time I didn't like it. But then, it was served as part of the dinner following the tour of the savannahs and that time I loved it!

I'm really surprised that no one else brought this up, but the pork tenderloin is amazing. I have not had a piece of pork tenderloin like that EVER.

I think I got one of the flatbreads for an appetizer, and I got the chocolate cheesecake for dessert. I wasn't impressed with the chocolate cheesecake (but I think it is because I just don't like chocolate cheesecake. I WANT to like it, so I keep trying it at different places, but I am always disappointed.)
