Favorite Western Caribbean Excursion?

So, we've finally figured out that we are taking a Disney Western Caribbean cruise. Next question, what excursions would you recommend?

Doesn't necessarily have to be cruise sponsored. If you went somewhere cool on your own I would love to hear about that.

Background info: Married couple, no kids, 26 years old. Also, took a Carnival 3 day to Nassua last year and though I loved it, hubby nearly had a heart attack swimming with the sting rays(wimp! ). Says he would go if they are only Nemo size fish though

We took a cab to Chankanaab State Park in Cozumel. It was cheap, and FABULOUS. We spent the entire day snorkeling (little bitty fishies), sunning and walking around the beautiful grounds. I think the whole day for the 3 of us cost $40. DCL wanted something like $50 per person for essentially the same thing!!

In Keywest .. We did the Jetski Tour of the island $105.00

It is located on the dock as u get off the ship in one of the little shacks... 2 hour tour 105.00 for 2 people on the ski....

was a blast ...... BRING BOTTLED WATER ......


Cozmel We like the Jeep tour this is a Dcl trip.... u get to go 4wheeeling in a jeep and end up at a nice beach take swim and have a great lunch mexican Style........

was great fun... $100.00 per person and there will be 4 people iin a jeep so u have to split the driving....

I'm definitely going to look into the Jet Ski thing.... any other good tips?

I would have said Capt Marvin's snorkling with the stingrays, but your hubby won't like that, right??

Co-Cruisers from the DIS really liked the beach with the blow up slide thing (I think it was Mr. Sancho's or something like that) on Cozumel.

Playa Del Sol has a water trampoline and an "ice berg" in the water to play on too. You can go there on your own for MUCH less $$$ than on the DCL excursion.

In Grand Cayman we REALLY enjoyed the Shipwreck and Reef snorkel excursion through DCL. First you visit a shipwreck that's in front of where the Magic anchors. You can see the remains of the shipwreck. They toss fish food in the water here so all of the little fishies come close by. The fish are really neat and seeing the remains of the shipwreck is pretty good to. Then its back on the boat for a 5 minute ride to the reef (several hundred yards away is all it is.) Here you snorkel among the reef and see the coral and the fishies without the aid of fish food. The reef is great!!!

On thing about snorkeling at Grand Cayman, there is definatly some fish here that make Nemo look microscopic. They are tarpins. They are really big. They LOOK like sharks (but they are not). OK now for the good news, they're asleep at the bottom and under the reefs because they are nocturnal fish. So if you're like me, you can dive down to where they are and get a picture (not a very good picture unless your underwater camera has a flash (highly recomended).

Half of my family feels this is the best snorkeling we have done (also snokled on St. John's, Key West and castaway cay). The other half liked the snorkeling trip we took on Key West better(DCL again).

We did the "Dune Buggy Jungle safari" Non-Dcl. It sounds similar to Hygein99's trip only we drove in a Dune Buggy! You know, like the old "Monkees" car (is that dating myself?). It was a blast. There were just the two of us in our buggy. Some chose to ride 4 to the buggy. They fill the built in coolers in the back of each buggy with your beverage of choice and a lot of ice. We chose Mexican Beer (Sol), Cokes and Water. We had a great time and those little buggies just flew over the rocks and bumps. Very bumpy ride, but so much fun. It was like being on a ride at an amusement park. My hisband drove like a maniac (which was encouraged) the whole time. We too, stopped for a homemade picnic lunch on a beach, AND they had snorkel gear and we went snorkeling out to the reef which is about 200 yds. out. GORGEOUS reef! The water out there is about 30 ft. deep, but the coral reaches the surface here and we swam through paths and little caves (if you have the ability to dive down). It was excellent snorkeling. One of our guides (didn't speak any english), guided us through the reef. He was very concerned about everyone that went snorkeling and showed us a lot of cool stuff. Then we enjoyed our lunch and some more Sols. We also were taken to a Mayan Ruin along the coast. Small, but cool to see and go in. Our guides caught a boa constrictor for us to hold and take a picture of!
The tour lasted about 6 hours and cost $89.00 pp. Everything included, beer, sodas, food, buggies, etc. It was by far our best day on the Cruise.
