Favorite Souvineers from EPCOT WS?

Love the pearls from Japan.

My DS wanted a flag from each country that he has now in his room.

One of my faves for the kids was from China---cute little Chinese style kid's tableware sets---plate, cup, bowls, spoon. They eat on these daily and every time I get them out I think of WS. (edited to add that these were very inexpensive and plastic/unbreakable)

My favorite souvenir was purchased for me by my father (who passed several years ago). It was purchased in the early 90's from Morrocco. I know they still have them as I've seen them as recently as October '05. It was a handmade leather handbag. I still have it and use it all the time. It was made very well and has withstood the test of time. Everytime I use it I think of the trip we took to my favorite place in the world with my favorite person.

I love anything from the Laila fragrance line in Norway. I have it on right now . . . and I smell really good. :goodvibes

Hi,

Picking an oyster in Japan sounds so amazing, can anyone give more details? How much does it cost? Can you get a necklace made there? How does it work?

Thanks

My daughter picked an oyster during our visit this past December. The cost to pick the oyster was about $14. She had her pearl put in a really cute heart pendant setting, which was $10. I think it turned out quite beautiful for how inexpensive the setting was. There are different settings for pendants, earrings, rings, etc., in a variety of prices depending on whether you pick stering silver or 14 karat gold. My daughter's was sterling silver. We had to wait about 20 minutes for the pearl to be put in the pendant. It is so much fun to stand there are watch the oysters being opened. My daughter was hoping for a pink pearl, but she got an ivory one and it was 7 mm.

My favorite souviner from Epcot has to be the tea set that I got in Japan. It is a very lite blue, almost transucent, and has bamboo shoots on them. There are four cups and the teapot. They are still in the box until I get my shelves up over my hutch. This trip, I think that we will try the oysters and get necklaces. Sounds like a lovely souviner!!!!

When we were just there at the end of November it was like 12.95 maybe 13.95. Any way you buy a ticket at the check out, then go over to the case with the oysters. The girls there take your ticket and you pick the oyster that you want. They bring you to the front and open it in front of everyone. They then clean it and measure it. Then you are free to look at the different settings that they have. If you decide to buy a setting there they are made within 30 minutes of your visit. The settings aren't really that expensive, for a necklace with DD birthstone it was like 27.50. Another one that DD got was 11.00. We have a lot of fun having them open the oysters to see what is inside. Like I posted before, 1st time I got twins in 2003. This year both DH and I got twins and they were the exact same size - 6 1/4 and 6 1/2. While we were there a woman got an 8mm size pearl. For me it is very addicting. I really want to get a black one. That's my goal everytime I'm there. So far no luck!!! If you decide to do it good luck! :earboy2:

Another thing I buy from MK is a glass (mug) etched with the character of choice and the name of choice. They are so nice, I've lined them up in my china cabinet with all of my other crystal/glass.

That perfume smells so heavenly! Last summer, while visiting Epcot WS I tried it on and Dh thought it was just a heavenly smell. Of course he said that while we were at the airport on our way back home!

Guess what I<m getting in Epcot?

I just can"t wait to browsw all over WS....no kids this time so I can take all the time I want!

Half of our kitchen is from WS!! :rotfl:

From Japan: teapot and matching tea cups, sushi plates with chopstick holders, various chopsticks, rice bows (all of these match)...From China: large plastic soup bowls and soup spoons.

We love shopping in WS, especially the China and Japan stores (obviously!). I also love the Hello Kitty section in the Japan store! :teeth:

You can also do the pearl thing at the jewelry stand at the Y&B Club.. I really wish they did it the way Sea World used to. I remember going to Sea World as a kid, and you paid a diver dove to the bottom of this huge pool and picked your pearl. It was neat and I ended up with a pearl valued at $85!

I love shopping in WS! I love it so much that I've usually gone way over my souviner budget there...

This last trip I gave my DH my wallet with instructions to keep me from going over my budget. He went over and above the call of duty and wouldn't give me my wallet at all! :rotfl:

One of my favorite things to do is buy candy or chocolate from each of the countries - yummy! One year I gave myself $10 to spend in each country to see if I could find one small item in each place that would be a reminder of the whole WS. It was a lot of fun, and now I have a display of all my little WS souviners.

Other favorites:
a small rug from Morocco
a tea cup & saucer and an assortment of teas from England
a lovely painted plate from Japan
satin pj's from China (don't fit anymore, unfortunately!)
embroidered skirt in Mexico
pressed flower earrings in Norway

It's probably not unique, but I would buy a Christmas ornament from each country. I am actually trying to buy enough ornaments this year to have a Disney tree.

In the ornament theme, I have a Christmas pickle ornament from Germany. It's really fun to explain the tradition of the Christmas pickle to people who look at our tree and see a bright green pickle ornament!
The only other traditional thing is also something from the Twinings tea shop in UK.

Out of everything there is to do and see at WDW, the WS is by far my favorite (and Epcot in general). My two younger sisters don't like the WS as much, because there isn't as much to do. I am a pretty cultured person, and I just get so wrapped up in each country. If I had more time without my whole family, I would take more time in each country to shop.

Anyway, one of my favorite things from the WS was given to me as a birthday gift from my youngest sister. She bought me the "Mo'Rockin" CD from Morocco, because the music they play there is our favorite! I listen to it and it reminds me of being there, and watching the Moroccan dancers. My favorite souvenir to buy each time we go is candy from Germany (I love it so much because I've been to Germany, and it reminds me of that). YUM! I also have a tank top that says "The Beatles," of course from the U.K.

My middle sister really loves her good luck cat from Japan, but my youngest sister has the best WS souvenir of all. She went to each country and found the pressed penny machine (they all had one I believe, except either China or Japan). She got one pressed penny from every country around the WS, and bought one of those pressed penny wallets to keep them in. Those were very inexpensive souvenirs!!

When I go next, I am hoping to get something more from the U.K., and a real souvenir from Germany. I also want to try food from each country, but I don't know if I will have the time, money, or stomach for that!

I love our hand painted scroll from the Chinese pavillion. It was $22.00 and they have them in several sizes. The guy even went into the back for me to get the colors I was looking for. It hangs in my bedroom next to my bed and I love to look at it.

I got a simple necklace from the England pavillion that has a celtic knot - people constantly ask me about it - it cost $12.00

My neighbors did a pearl ring from Japan, I may do that this year but I want a pendant instead.

Sorry, had a brain disfunction! I forgot this was regarding EPCOT only! LOL
